First, thanks for the absolutely brilliant, minimalist theme. I didn’t hesitate to purchase as it’s perfect for my needs.
I have noticed that feature images will scale for smaller screens, like the iPhone, but any images I load inline with the content do not resize. Is this a bug, or intentional? I understand the theme is primarily text based but images are sometimes important to convey a point and I don’t want to make every image small just so it fits a smaller screen.
Thanks again (and rated 5 stars BTW ).
It’s probably a bug. I’ll look into it and submit an update. Email me at woolf.david@gmail.com so I can send you a notice when the update is live.
Thank you for your purchase and rating!
Dear Mr. Woolf:
Thank you for the update with the footer add. Is there a reason why I cannot add HTML so I can link my social media pages in the footer region?
Thank you,
RJ
It’s an input, not a textarea so html can’t be placed in there. Email me at woolf.david@gmail.com and I’ll help you get it changed so that you can add links.
A very elegant and well conceived theme. The developer, David Woolf is extremely responsive and helpful.
Don’t hesitate to buy this theme if you think it will suit your purposes. Thirty dollars? Whats thirty dollars over the lifetime of a project?
Thanks!
excellent theme, easy to use! thanks!
Glad you like it, thanks!
Amazing theme! It takes a lot of time and effort to create a theme centered around text and articles that remains aesthetically pleasing. This theme seems to be everything I am looking for. However, I have two questions before making the purchase, just to be certain it will fit my needs; A) Can the home page/index be set to display the articles page?
Can the articles page be set to display full posts as opposed to excerpts?
Thank you in advance for your response. Fantastic theme.
Thanks! The home page can definitely be your blog roll (it’s actually the default) but unfortunately there isn’t a switch for showing full post content in place of excerpts. It is doable with some code changes though, which I provide support for.
Wow! Super-fast support. Thank you so much. Is the switch from excerpt to full post something that cane be done with some intermediate knowledge of HTML and/or PHP ? Or is it more advanced? I’m looking to have my posts display as they do currently at http://www.acstanley.com/the-blog. Again, thank you so very much for your fantastic support and swift reply.
As far as php, it’s simply changing the_excerpt() to the_content() in the loop file, but you are probably going to want to change the styling a bit since the excerpt uses a heading font and large size. So yeah, it’s mainly an HTML and CSS thing.
Excellent. I’ll be looking to purchase today or tomorrow. Thanks again for the quick replies. You’ve made supporting your work a no-brainer. I strongly encourage those reading the comments to support awesome people who make awesome things as well.
Thanks a lot, feel free to email me at woolf.david@gmail.com with your questions.
Using your theme as a base, I have made some minor tweaks and adjustments to customize the site and could not be happier with the results. Thank you a million times over for a fantastic theme. You can check out how it has been implemented at http://www.10stops.com Thanks again.
Looks great, thanks for purchasing!
I cannot install the theme which I just purchased. Wordpress tells me that style.css is missing
Hi,
Make sure to only upload the wordpress-for-writers theme folder, and not the whole themeforest download. If you unzip the themeforest download, there is a readme file that gives step by step instructions for installation and setting up the theme.
Series don’t work for me. They can be created and edited, but always show a 404 error page when I click the links. Maybe I miss somethimg that needs to be done…
Hi,
Visit your permalinks page (Permalinks under Appearance in the admin sidebar), and click the save button. Then try them out again.
Thanks for purchasing and if that doesn’t work, email me at woolf.david@gmail.com
Great! that work’s. Thank you very much.
Thanks for support! I finally managed to install your theme. Now I cannot make any widgets work. When I pull content (plain tekst or links) to Home Widgets /Archive Widgets nothing happens. I wonder what I do wrong? I need some sidebars
Hi,
You are placing widgets in those sidebars and nothing is happening? Have you setup your home and archive pages, with their specific page templates?
Hi David
I am probably not the brightest kid in wp school. I still cannot make any widgets work which I have not experienced with other themes before. You ask me if I have setup my home and archive pages with their specific templates? Probably not. What does it mean … I have only tried the drag and drop function in widgets. I don’t know if I can expect this much support. I might have bought a theme a little too complicated for my code skills.
Best,
Lene
Hi Lene,
No worries about the support! The readme file included with the download tells you how to setup pages, but it’s really simple. Click Pages in the WordPress dashboard sidebar to add and edit pages. When on the add/edit screen, on the right hand side there is a Page Templates dropdown for assigning the home page or archives page templates. Once you have done this for each page, you should see the widgets, just like in the demo (as opposed to just seeing a list of posts). You will also need to assign your home page as the front page of your site, but again, that is all described in the step by step setup in the readme.html file (in the readme folder of the theme download).
If this doesn’t work, email me at woolf.david@gmail.com and I can take a look. Thanks for purchasing and don’t be afraid to ask any questions you have!
Thank you for your support and patience! I´ll send you a mail
Hi David,
Great theme. I seem to be having trouble displaying the tagline underneath the title. It is showing in the theme customisation tagline field, but when I press save it is not visible in the header underneath the title – any help would be appreciated.
Also, is there anyway of showing the date that the article was posted, next to the authors name?
Just a small point. Do you get the email addresses of your buyers, in order to contact them if you update the theme, does Theme Forest contact us, or do we have to contact you & confirm our email address?
Regards.
I’ve got your email and will be answering your queries through that now, thanks!
Hey,
Great theme. Thanks! Long sought such..
David,
Is there a way that I can limit the pagination display? Currently, the bottom of my page shows 18 additional pages to navigate. If I could limit that number or remove it in lieu of an “older/newer posts” function, that would be ideal. You can see what I’m talking about at 10stops.com by scrolling to the bottom of the home page.
Thank you in advance. This theme has served my needs extremely well, I love it.
Hi,
It should limit it, so I’ll check out that bug. In the meantime, you can increase the amount of posts per page by going to Reading under Settings in the WordPress admin sidebar. Obviously that will only fix the issue slightly in the short term, but it might be helpful until I have a fix.
I’ll let you know when the update to the theme is out!
Just FYI, I have some other updates to the theme I want to do, so I won’t have that update out today. The fix to this is pretty simple if you are comfortable editing theme files (it’s just a one line change), so you can email me at support@davidwoolf.net for that fix if you want it now.
hi dwoolf,
do you have a few links to sites running this theme – i’d like to take a look.
also, is it possible to set the column width narrower / shorter line length / so there are fewer words per line?
cheers
Hi,
I only have the demo link, which can be found under the screenshot of the theme on its themeforest page.
You can increase the left and right padding in the stylesheet, which I can help you with.
Thanks for your interest!
Great – thanks David.
I’ve emailed you…
Thanks! I’ll have a response by tomorrow!
Nice theme! One doubt: is it possible to upload a custom logo? Thanks!
Hi,
One of the options in the theme options panel is for a custom logo.
Anyone know how to activate the sidebar with this theme?
I’m probably being a bit slow; I’m not great at tech stuff…
I actually don’t want anything to appear in the sidebar – I just want it activated so it shunts the main text over a little.
I don’t know if it’s possible to have the sidebar activated and have nothing appear in it. I’ve added in a Text widget with some dummy text to test whether the sidebar is activating – and it’s not.
I guess people using this theme have figured it out easy enough – but I can’t seem to figure it out – anyone who’s activated the sidebar – can you give me any pointers?
It’s for this site: http://richardclunan.com/
Thanks, Richard
Hey Richard,
I’ll have a response to your email later today with instructions for narrowing the text. Thanks!
Thanks David.
Is it possible to activate the sidebar and have nothing in the sidebar – to do it that way?
I’d also want the site to display well on smaller screens still – like say if narrowing the text involves a percentage – say 80% – and if that happens on mobile phone screens also, then I’m not sure that would be wise…
I guess you’ll know the ifs and buts and be able to put me straight…
Cheers.
There isn’t a sidebar, but the process should be simple. Look for an email in the next couple of hours.
Hi David,
Are you able to give a refund on this theme?
It’s a nice looking theme—I’m not complaining about that.
The changes I needed to make though—it made more sense to revert back to the standard wordpress theme and make them from there.
I understand if you can’t give a refund.
Cheers, Richard
http://richardclunan.com/copywriterHi Richard,
You would have to contact Themeforest, and they will only give a refund if the theme is defective or grossly misadvertises its features.
Thanks for your reply David.
I don’t think it’s defective or misrepresented.
Cheers, Richard
http://richardclunan.com/copywriterHi,
Very nice theme.
I can’t seem to get these column shortcodes to work. I have two screens showing the code I’m using and the result. It appears that the text just comes out very small and overlaps:
Code: http://i.imgur.com/VPdXDsp.png
Result: http://i.imgur.com/8VcV4HE.png
Any help would be appreciated,
C
Hi,
Sorry about the confusion. The correct formatting is:
[layout width=”50%”] content [/layout]
So just make sure that the opening and closing brackets are each on their own line, with the content in between. This will allow you to add multiple paragraphs in one column.
Thanks for purchasing!
I took a few more screens to show what I’m trying to do:
Code: http://i.imgur.com/WmrqB5W.png
What I’m trying to do: http://i.imgur.com/U5mZ4z4.png
What happens: http://i.imgur.com/8evU0p0.png
Is my code wrong?
Oh.. sorry! I just saw the e-mail themeforest sent and I see the closing bracket needs to be on another line. In themeforest it didn’t show it on the next line. Thanks.
No problem, but make sure both brackets are on their own line.
Sorry, this is the last time I’ll bother you.
I have the 3 column setup working but I’d like it to properly line up with the featured image, regular body, etc.
Screen: http://i.imgur.com/evqLBfR.png
I tried removing the right padding on the three-column entry in the but it didn’t change anything (http://i.imgur.com/ZkiCHob.png).
Is there a simple way for me to fix this?
No problem about the questions! At this time, there isn’t any way to target that third column padding. The layout shortcode’s goal is to be an uncomplicated way of adding complex layouts (for example, you can add images, galleries, video, etc. inside of the layout shortcode).
The downside of this is that each column is exactly the same, so they all have some padding on the right side, including the last column. The padding shouldn’t be that much though (referring to your screenshot). Are you using 33% or 33.3333% as the width value? You should be using 33.3333% to fill the entire page width, rather than 99% of it.
I hope that makes sense!
Hi, thanks for the reply. I am using 33.3333 as the width value for 3 columns but even then it doesn’t feel like it’s reaching 100% of the width. It’s driving me crazy trying to figure it out.
http://i.imgur.com/r1TtDiL.pngI just want all three columns together to reach the full 100% width and it isn’t right now.
I have a better screen that shows the problem:
http://i.imgur.com/TdXWpby.pngCan you email me at support@davidwoolf.net about the issue and provide a link to the page? Thanks!
Hello, I am really liking this theme, thanks!
Only things I have noticed are the blockquotes are margin: 35px 0 70px -100px; Intentional or not, I changed it to margin: 35px 0 70px 100px;
lol, thanks again. I love all the other themes too!
Definitely intentional! If you are using a featured image with your post, they will match up.
Thanks for purchasing!
Oh ok, cool. One more thing I noticed… not very important though. On iphone, when you press the ‘reader’ button (right of the URL) it doesnt display the comments section. But its no problem as I use jetpack comments. Sorry, still an awesome theme, and also just bought the montreal theme
Thanks!
Reader purposely doesn’t include comments, so that’s not anything I have control over.
Hi! Thank you for a great theme! I have a question about how to go about setting a masthead(?). I want to place an image, a banner, on the blogg page (as in the preview masthead page) but I don´t know why I can´t get it to work. I have tried to set a featured image (it´s 713×300px and I have tried both JPG and PNG) but it didn´t work. I also tried “add media” in the post but that didn´t work either. Can you help me?
Hi,
The featured image would have been the correct way to go, but that only works for standard pages. The blog page can’t use standard page settings (title, featured image, etc.).
You will have to manually add your image on line 4 of index.php in the theme folder.
You can email me at support@davidwoolf.net if you need more assistance. Thanks!
Thank you! It worked perfectly!
