Hi,
I’ll check it out
Parker
Hi,
I’ve sent you an email, everything should be ok now
Parker
Hello there,
I just bought this great theme and i am trying to put this up as the example on this website. Is there any tutorial/ video how i can get it as it is shown?
The documentation pdf is limited.
I hope you ca help out.
Thanks
Hi,
in the documentation.pdf we remind ou to the theme docs in the admin, the docs are here:
Appearance -> Theme Docs in the WP admin. You will find a video explaining how to set up the demo contents.
Parker
Dear Parker, as I have already informed you, I have met with some strange behavior of Sold! theme after previous updating. Today I updated the theme 2.0.7. -> 2.0.8 more thoroughly. I replaced the folder pk2012_sold via FTP firstly on my test site (subdomain). Unfortunately I have not checked the pages, just replaced there 2 lines in the page-home-standard.php as you kindly help me before, and check the working of it, it was Ok. Then I replaced the folder of theme on my working site in the same way, and have got the familiar problem with theme again. What is this problem? Please, see description as below:
When I open any already created page, I see there the “default template” instead of already selected template.
When I try to create the new page, I can make it only with default template.
One time I have already sent you email about (I sent you three emails), but you were busy to answer me. I tried to repair the problem, but unsuccessfully. I have used the WP-database-reset plugin in order to make all clean, and I also reinstalled the WP one more, deactivated all plugins too, but I still couldn’t use the theme page templates. Only total new installation from zero was help me in that time. But now I have this problem again with 2.0.8. It was my fault – it would be better to replace only 3 updated files instead of whole folder today.
After a few ours I found the case of my problem. It is your pk2012_sold.zip file. Why you put there additional pk2012_sold folder? After unziping the themeforest downloading .zip there are the pk2012_sold.zip file (with others file) for installation. We can use it for traditional WP-way of installation of theme. And it works perfectly. But if I unzip this file and replace the folder in the server via FTP , the additional pk2012_sold folder appears in pk2012_sold theme folder in the server.
So, the decision was the simple deleting (or renaming) this unnecessary pk2012_sold folder from server, and then all worked as earlier.
I have wrote about my problem here in order to inform the other your customers. And, if I am right with this, no need place unnecessary second pk2012_sold folder inside of first pk2012_sold folder, which is just the copy. Please, check your zip file of theme in themeforest to be avoid the same topic with others.
By the way, thank you for 2.0.8. updating – now it is Ok the margins in widgets, and the tittle of blog is also right!
Hi,
well, when you update on the server you have to upload the “theme only” folder and replace the existing one, you don’t have to add a new theme folder.
Additionally, be sure that when you drag the theme folder on your ftp software window you don’t release over any folder… maybe you uploaded the theme folder in the wrong position… not sure if it’s clear
Parker
Yes, it is not my first site, but I met with one ‘theme only’ folder inside of the other “theme only” folder (with all themes files too) the first time. I think, the WP-installer is clever than me, and he finds the last “theme only” folder inside of theme.zip file. I will do that too in my next purchasing here
Now, the structure of themeforest theme zip-file is the next:
Themeforest zip -> download-folder -> pk2012_sold.zip, licensing, psd, documentation, etc -> and if we unzip the pk2012_sold.zip, we find there all necessary theme files …and – additional pk2012_sold folder with the copies of all necessary theme files. The question was – why the pk2012_sold folder is inside of other pk2012_sold folder? What was the reason to do this?
Ahah,
wait a second. In the download you find:
pk2012_sold folder
pk2012_sold.zip
The zip is the theme folder zipped. The zip is needed if you want to install the theme via the admin. The folder is to upload it directly to the ftp.
Parker
I think the additional pk2012_sold folder inside of the other pk2012_sold folder (both of them have the same theme files inside) is creating by winrar. When unziping, this software finds the already exist pk2012_sold folder, and places the pk2012_sold folder from .zip file inside to existed pk2012_sold folder (it already was in themeforest.zip archive). If I unzip the theme.zip archive to other folder location, it will be all right with updating.
So, now it is completely clear for me, thanks for your patience! Better later, than never
One more, just make all clean. It was my fault, the mistake was – no need unzip the pk2012_sold.zip file for updating, because the unzipped pk2012_sold folder is already in themeforest zip-archive. Sorry for my inattention. You may delete this topic, if you think…
Hi,
no, no problem, the topic can stay
Parker
Answer to Electroscope’s question: Changes won’t be saved after changing it.
Solution: First of all press the ‘Shop’ tab, then make your changes (e.g. change the currency etc.), press the save button. Now your changes should be saved.
Solution 2: Press another tab and then go back to the ‘Shop’ tab. Follow the instructions above. Should work.
@ Parker: Nobody likes to read all pages. True. But you are working on the forum thing. Right ?
@ Parker 2: Can you copy&paste my answer for Electroscoe ? Tks.
Hi Angelito,
thanks for the help, I appreciate.
Yes, I’m working on our next theme that comes with a forum and we will use it for our support website. Unfortunately all these things require work and many hours. I hope to complete everything soon.
Parker
Hi.
I really want to buy your theme. However, I really 1st need to know what options I’d have for IE7 or earlier support? Should I be considering a re-direct to a basic site version? Or are there any other options through you guys?
Hi,
thanks for the interest.
Actually we have totally dropped the support for ie7 and older browsers, because are missing too many css rules needed by modern themes.
If you really care about older browsers (waste of time) you could redirect to a basic site as you say, but that would be up to you.
Parker
Thanks. Great response.
So I like the idea of a re-direct. If I were to buy your site, could you supply me with that (probably) one line of code needed to redirect?
“Waste of Time” it’s actually to be used as a learning and subscription resource for US hospitals, most nurses are on archaic systems. But I’d like to have your site for the more up to date users whilst not ignoring those unfortunates.
Hi,
another option would be removing the header line that hides the site on ie7, so you would see it, but with some css issues…
Let me know,
Parker
That’s certainly an idea. I would need to be tested though.
OK. If I were to buy, would it be possible to redirect if the browser is prior to “Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3 OR Safari 4”. Is it A) a good to redirect given my situation and
A code line that you would provide if I buy this premium template?
Kind Regards.
Hi,
before to purchase wait for my final answer. I need to test these options to be sure.
Parker
Hi. Any answer as yet? Would really love to move forward with your template if you can let me know. Thanks.
Hi,
I’m still not sure if it’s a good thing to redirect to other sites in general, but I found this link and obviously it’s possible: http://www.daobydesign.com/blog/tips/css-html/detect-redirect-script-for-internet-explorer-ie/
It’s up to you if you want to redirect or just show the site with some CSS problems to old IE browsers…
Parker
Would you let me see IE6 / 7 renders if I were to remove the header line to see just how bad the CSS issues would be?
Hi,
send me an email via the contact form on my profile page. We must do that on the preview, so I cannot leave the theme like that for too long, so better if we do that in the same moment.
Parker
Hey! Thanks for previous discussion, now my question concerns the simple images placing into HTML -editor in WP. Why when I place there the simple string of images (as below), the Sold! theme shows the images in column? I have already checked the working of this in my others themes – the flags are in line there.
Please, help me with this images, I really cannot do nothing with Sold! theme, if I need to place these little images in line (in my other themes I can do it without of problems). Only one image in line it is strange behavior, I think.. Could you check it please?
In order to be avoid this behavior I created the common png image with 3 this flags in line, and tried to use the usermap tag (as below), but unfortunately this also doesn’t work (and in my other themes it doesn’t work too):
Hi,
yes, don’t worry, I’m checking this now
Parker
Hi,
ok, to have this working:
just add this to the Custom CSS field of the theme options:
.pk_header_text { overflow:hidden; width:90px; height:17px; } .pk_header_text a { display:inline-block; margin-right:10px; } .pk_header_text a img { margin:4px 0 0 0; }Cheers,
Parker
Dear Parker, thank you for kindness with support! The support of “Parker&Kent” group is really excellent!
Now my flags are in header. Ok, they are there. But what about of the images in HTML -editor in any page-templates of Sold! theme? This function doesn’t work properly yet. Also I cannot place the text string in header as it was before.
Usually I use the little png icons with text, but the formating of html (img) is not well in some cases (for example, when I use these png-icons for contact page or something likes that). Please, try to place a few little images in row with help of html-editor, and see the result there – the images will place as column after published, not in row. It is strange, because it is all correct in visual editor, but it is not well after published.
So, if the images will place in row, as it needs, no need custom CSS for header too, I’m right?
If you need some screenshot for illustration – just let me know.
Hi,
you’re welcome. Yes, give me a link or send me screenshots, I need to see what you mean.
Parker
Ok, here is the view in visual-editor in Sold! theme-template: screenshot 1
Let us see, what is happen after published: screenshot 2
There is all right with this row in my other themes: screenshot 3
Hi,
ok, there is a CSS fix with the next update for this issue, but don’t worry about that, just do this way, I’ve added a simple wrapper. These flags can be used within the page/post content:
Markup:
And add this to the Theme Options -> Custom CSS field:
.pk_flags a { margin-right: 10px; } .pk_flags img { display:inline; margin:0; max-width:100%; }Let me know,
Parker
I have checked the working of this wrapper, it works! And it also works with header flags images too, but till the dashboard red button is appeared. In case of previous CSS this button was in right place. Now all images in header are over this dashboard button. Please, check this moment too with coming updating.
Thank you for CSS lesson today! I must read about of the CSS styling more and more now! Thank you for prompt helping with this!
Hi,
mmm, I’ll try the combination of both and I’ll let you know.
Parker
Hi,
everything works fine to me. In the Custom CSS field be sure to have this only:
.pk_header_text { overflow:hidden; width:90px; height:17px; } .pk_header_text a { display:inline-block; margin-right:10px; } .pk_header_text a img { margin:4px 0 0 0; } .pk_flags a { margin-right: 10px; } .pk_flags img { display:inline; margin:0; max-width:100%; }If this doesn’t work for you, send me a screenshot, need to see it.
Parker
I meant before, it must be possible to place the png images (the flags in my case, but also it maybe some little icons too and with different sizes, not only 20×13) either in header or in the body without of custom CSS after fixing (I hope for this). I check the working of your CSS wrapper along, and it works for header images too, as I wrote in the previous message. Now I can place the header text near of images, just the dashboard button position isn’t well in case of using the wrapper (see the screenshot, please).
So, ones again, now I use the wrapper only (in custom CSS field), because I need to place some text line in the left of flags too (likes in screenshot):
.pk_flags a { margin-right: 10px; } .pk_flags img { display:inline; margin:0; max-width:100%; }And for header flags I use this:It is better, because I can change the size of little png-images without of necessity to modify the custom CSS . Also I can place the text into header line, as in your demo here, just the “register” button is under of my images in this case. So, I asked you to check this moment during working with coming updating. Because it is now as here, and it is not well with button.
That’s all.
Mmm,
you should not put the wrapper for the header text, only for the page content.
Parker
But in this case I cannot make this line in header, likes in screenshot here.
Please, delete the copy of this message above, because I posted it there by mistake…
No problem,
I’ll let you know, I will try it with a text.
Parker
Check here: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/headerkic.png/
Header text code:
Custom CSS
.pk_header_text a { display:inline-block; margin:0 5px; } .pk_header_text a:first-child { margin-left:10px; } .pk_header_text a img { margin:0 0 -4px 0; } .pk_flags a { margin-right: 10px; } .pk_flags img { display:inline; margin:0; max-width:100%; }Cheers,
Parker
This is great!
Thanks
Parker
But in this case I cannot make this line in header, likes in screenshot here.
Ok,
I’ll let you know
Parker
Thank you for your magic! The custom CSS works fine with flag images. Hope, it is useful for other your customers in case they need the multilanguage site with traditional design.
May I ask you about of the footer social networks? Is it possible to add there two additional socials into the listing? My customer asks me about… If yes, I can prepare the icons for this… If it isn’t so easy, no problem – there are wonderful footer widgets areas in Sold! theme, I can place all necessities icons with links there.
Hi,
you’re welcome.
Yes, you can add to the footer the 2 new social netwroks manually in the html. Prepare the 2 icons (16*16px) and give me the 2 absolute urls and then I’ll give you the markup to paste in your file
Parker
Thank you, your kind helping is very appreciated!
Actually, I’d like to ask you to put two socials together with others in footer social sections in there options panel, because it is the best way from design point of view (I can prepare the icons for this task, 16×16, ok). Only if it isn’t easy for you with some future updates, I will do it manually using one of the footer’s widgets areas (thanks for your widgets areas in footer, I can do it by myself).
Hi,
which social netwroks you need to add?
Parker
Well, my customer wants http://vk.com/ and http://www.odnoklassniki.ru/ Somewhere these are popular, maybe…
Mmm,
they are too niche to be added to the current list as an update, there are already too many supported.
I would add them to the footer manually… well, let me know.
Parker
I see. Just a little asking: you meant under “manually” – together with other icons in row, under footer widgets areas? (in the left of footer menu, as it is now). In this case I need need your kindness with support, you right.
Yes, they would appear with the other footer icons, perfectly integrated. Because the back end options are missing, we will just hard ode them… but the result will be perfect
Parker
Nice to hear about of it! Thank you in advance!
I’ve prepared two icons 16×16 (you can check it here: vkomtacte and odnoklassniki ). Please, give me the instructions how I can place them together with others.
Hi,
make the footer-social-networks.php like this: http://pastie.org/5386869
Complete with the final images URLs (I’ve added the current icons location) ,links and titles. You’ll see the empty attributes
Cheers,
Parker
Wow! Thank you! I have already check it. It seems strange for me, but it is not work.
So, what I do. This code:
<li><a href="http://vk.com/" title="vkontacte" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.fotoetude.com/images_for_support/vkontakte.png" alt="vkomtacte" /></a></li> <li><a href="http://www.odnoklassniki.ru/" title="odnoklassniki" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.fotoetude.com/images_for_support/odnoklassniki.png" alt="odnoklassniki" /></a></li>I place afterHi,
no, don’t post code here, is unreadable. Use pastie.org as I did for my code. Paste me the whole file code.
Parker
I understand. The code of page is here. Please, check it. Thank you!
Hi,
it looks correct. What’s not working? Try to cancel your browser cache. Obviously no link… still in loacalhost?
Parker
Just tried the code in my preview, works perfectly. Be sure to update the file on your local server and to empty the browser cache…
Remember, the file is footer-social-networks.php
Parker
Yes, you right! It works now. If I tell, what was the case of my problem, you don’t believe me
. But it was well experience for me. The problem was with additional pk2012_sold folder inside of themes pk2012_sold folder (it was a long story about my fault as we discussed earlier) – when I found the case of my previous problem, I just renamed this pk2012_sold folder as “delete”. But all themes files still remained in this folder. The theme worked perfectly after this, and I forgot about.
But WP built editor didn’t forget
. And when I opened the footer-social-networks.php with help of editor, the editor found this file in “delete” folder location. And I made all changes there. But the theme uses the right pk2012_sold folder and ignores, of course, the so called “delete” folder
. That’s was the explanation – why I couldn’t see the changes.
So, I just moved this folder to trash, changed again the footer-social-networks.php file as you kindly offered me, and now it works perfectly! What is the day today?!
Thank you so much for support!
Ahah,
I knew you were having issues of that type… you solved, so cool!
You’re welcome anyway,
Parker
Hi,
always with your IE on pc, do you see the slider of our preview? Just to check if the issue is caused by a bug or by a modification you did.
Thanks,
Parker
Hi Parker – Today I have 2 questions …
1) How do I remove from the breadcrumb links the product data type [ex: “Variable” , “Simple” – see: http://icancanopy.com/product/canopies/performance-shade-kit/ – this shows as “Home > Products > variable > Performance Shade Kit”
2) When making JPG ’s usually one can set the compression/quality level. Is it possible to increase the quality of the JPG ’s made when adding and setting the featured image for a product? (I tried to do a little research and have not found anything yet). Is it PrettyPhoto that makes the JPG ’s or some other tool? Can a setting parameter be added to increase the image quality? JPG compression has always hated the color red – that I get – and I can really see it here http://icancanopy.com/product/accessories/full-wall-mesh/ which is why I am looking for a way to improve the quality of my images – if possible.
THANKS !!!!
Hi,
1: you have to set up your breadrumbs plugin. Under Settings -> Breadcrumbs NavXT go to the post types tab and for the product post unselect the root page and then uncheck the product tag and select the product category for the hierarchy option.
2: we simply use the WP core to manage the images, we don’t do anything special. I don’t think is possible to edit the image quality that WP uses when resizes the images…
Cheers,
Parker
thanks.
Hey Parker – I found a working solution to the JPG issue …
add the following code to the functions.php file
add_filter('jpeg_quality', function($arg){return 100;});I tested it and it works. I don’t know what the default image quality is but the image on that page was 22KB’s and went up to 95KB’s after the change. Also you could tell the quality was better. I read that the WP quality was 60% and another person said 90%. Using Photoshop and doing the same scaling and JPG output I get about 62% image quality for the 22KB file and 100% was 95KB’s- so it looks as if it checks out correctly.
Now we both know!
Hi,
yes, I was thinking about a filter… confirmed
Default quality seems to be 60.
Thanks for sharing,
Parker
Wow – and more imortant details (should you care and want to know) ...
I tried to dial down the KB’s by specifying a 90% qualityadd_filter('jpeg_quality', function($arg){return 100;});... and my file size dropped back down to 22KB’s. Interesting! So the WP default image quality setting is in fact 90% – however its 90% quality looks like, and is the file size, of Photoshops “Save for Web” JPG at approx 62%. Hmm.
Hi,
mmm, I will make some tests myself about this, seems an interesting thing.
Parker
Yeah right! As I said not a lot to play with between 90%-100% and then 4 times the size. I am looking at the Image Magick WP plugin. My web host server does not yet support it but I know the owner and he is looking into the php core module to see if it is safe. Which it needs to be as the site may at some point in time have to be PCI compliant. But this could be a simple alternative for some. It also has a tool to regenerate thumbnail images.
Dear Sirs
We have installed the Sold theme on www.faarevejleefterskole.dk
We are very satisfied with the theme, however, not with the performance. The loading time is way to slow…
Can you help me with suggestions to what I can do in order to speed up loading time?
Either in the code, or a plugin? I have already installed Quick Cache without any change in performance.
I am looking very much forward to hearing from you.
Best regards Charlotte
Hi,
well, it looks normal to me… then it’s full of images as background, so maybe are them to slow down… also if I didn’t notice this.
Usually the speed of a site depends on the server, not on the site itself… other than optimizing the contents and using a cache plugin I do not know what to say…
Cheers,
Parker
Some how I don’t have page option anymore to choose a page template?
I guess i am doing something wrong now. if i add a new page i have no attributes or extra’s…...... I already looked into widgets.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks
Hi,
probably you have a plugin breaking. Probably you activated WPML and I think that your server doesn’t match its minimum requirements: http://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/
Try disabling it and see if everything works fine again.
Parker
Dear Parker:
In principle, we agree with your point of the server possibly being too slow.
But have been comparing your theme with e.g. King Size which have been at least as heavy on the image side, so heavy images really don’t explain the lag in this case.
According to our analysis the it’s the css and js that’s being aggregated by the theme’s php that seems to be piling up. The file and size of the this data is of course in it self quite large due to the many skin options. But we have a hunch that this merging and minimization of the css and js is taking place every time or almost every time a page is requested on the server. Also regardless of the Quick Cache plugin we have been installing and tweaking.
When we test the site performance through ManageWP.com, we get feedback like this:
the website is slower than 78% of all tested websites
The two biggest problems seems to be these two URL ’s:
http://faarevejleefterskole.dk/wp-content/themes/pk2012_sold/css/pk_allinone_css.php?skin=custom&path=%2Fvar%2Fwww%2Fwww.faarevejleefterskole.dk%2Fwww%2Fwp-load.php&ecommerce&bbpress=no&ver=5015 http://faarevejleefterskole.dk/wp-content/themes/pk2012_sold/js/pk_allinone_js.php?ver=5015There is possibly some other cache plugin that could handle these URLs as cached data, but our priority would be to get rid of any excessive data (in this case: css) BEFORE minimizing and caching. That being said we would like to get these URLs cached.
Don’t you have some kind of indication as to where we might start?
Or perhaps you have better experience with another cache plugin than quick cache?
We are basically just asking for some best practice with your specific theme code.
Thanks for your assistance in advance.
Best regards Charlotte
Hi,
go to Appearance -> Theme Options -> Advanced options and turn off the performances optimization.
In this way the scripts won’t be combined and minified, so will be loaded the normal css and js scrips.
At this point, your cache plugin should do the whole job. You can also try the Total Cache plugin too…
Be sure to set them correctly, I know that sometimes they break the styles when they combine and minify many scripts (consider all the theme, ecommerce, forum, etc. ones).
Cheers,
Parker
Hi there,
I hope this question is not postet 1000times before:
I want to have 150/150px images on frontpage inside the blogteasers. I found no declaration inside the funktions.php, pk_funktions.php or in page-home-standart.php. Can you help me out?
Cheers Dennis
Hi,
no, first time question
Open the framework/pk_theme.php file and go to line 75:
add_image_size('thumb-latest-posts', 80, 80, true);Change 80 with 150. Then regenerate your thumbnails with this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
Cheers,
Parker
Hello,
I’m having some troubles customizing a couple things in my site using the Sold! Theme. Maybe you can help.
1. In Appearance>Theme Options>Skin I’m changing the settings for different item’s colours with no success. Can anyone explain why? Specifically I want to change the colour of the navigation bar. Other things too, but mostly that.
2. I’d like to install a web-font to customize the typography on my site, but I’m not familiar with how to do this with a Wordpress theme.
Thanks for reading, Joel
Hi Joel,
1: Be sure to select “Custom skin” in the “Skin option” at the beginning of the page, it’s the second option. Which version of the theme are you using? (Appearance -> Themes -> Check version next to the Sold! thumbnail)
2: In the Appearance -> Theme Docs -> Theme Options section I explain how to assign a font to different tags thanks to the Typohraphy options page.
Let me know if this helps.
Parker
One more question,
If I wanted to add custom icons to my nav, how could I do this?
Thanks for the help.
Joel
Hi,
to the main menu?
Parker
Yes, the main menu.
Hi,
send me an email via the contact form on my profile page and let’s if that can be done
I’ll check it tomorrow anyway, now it’s too late and I have to go.
Parker
I have seen it on one of the pages a buyer shared a link to. How do you hide the search/login/0 item “button” on the first page. i think I would like to do that to. It looks so much more like a front business page without it
Hi,
send me an email with our admin loin and I’ll take care of that for you.
Parker
Remember to post with the account you used to purhase the theme.
Parker
I have not bought or set it up yet… but it is good to know that it is fixable
Oh,
I see
Well, yes, that’s possible
Parker
Hi !
Have just bought Sold ! (november 16th) and installed it on local (MAMP). I downloaded all recommended plugins and activated them. And now get a WHITE PAGE without any access to my admin… !
Tried to remove all plugins by canceling folders from wp-content/plugin and still get the all white page with NO access.
I’m afraid there is now sth wrong with my data base… What’s the problem and how to fix it ?
PLEASE HELP !
Hi,
probably one of the plugins is breaking because your local server doesn’t match the minimum requirements… maybe the wrong php version… which php and mysql version are you running?
Btw, reset the database and make a fresh installation of WP. Once done, just activate the theme and let me know. Depending on your php and mysql I can tell you which plugin could give you the problem.
Maybe the issue is elsewhere, but being on your local computer I cannot check personally. If you have a production server, let’s try tpo install the theme there together… otherwise i’ll try to follow your local installation anyway.
Let me know,
Parker
Hi !
Thanks for the quick answer.
I’m running WP 3 .4.2. (updated yesterday), php 5.3.6, MySQL 5.5.9 on MAMP 2 .0 Does it look correct ?
Would you have an idea about which plugin would be a problem on local server ? Tried to deactivate all but with no result.
I would rather prefer being able to work on local ant then export website when ready…
Let me know,
Best regards.
Hi,
maybe the problem isn’t related to any plugin… maybe there is a problem with the installation of WordPress itself, having a blank window doesn’t look like a plugin conflict.
Unfortunately I can’t help more than this unless we can work together on a server online, where I can access…
The only thing I can say is to reinstall everything, WP, databases, etc and try again to see if the issue still happens.
Let me know,
Parker
Hello,
I have no page templates options in my pages?? How can I solve this?
Thanks
Hi,
maybe a plugin conflict. If you activated WPML , deactivate it and checl. Be sure that your server matches its minimum requirements to work: http://wpml.org/home/minimum-requirements/
