Looks fantastic.. So if I update the main site, is there a way that this can feed the content directly into this setup for the mobile, or am I going to have to duplicate all the content again for this? If we use this side by side with the main site, how will the mobile know which site to pull up from?

Hi there. Thanks. Sorry I didnt get back to you earlier. Sun’s just rising in the UK.

You can use this theme one of two ways:

1. Two Separate installations of WordPress

You use it on its own standalone so you have two installations of WordPress, one for your desktop website and one for your mobile website. This is the simplest approach but the data is separate and you will have to update both websites separately.

No sweat really if you intend on not making that many updates. Otherwise you’ll have to update your desktop site then your mobile site which will take extra time so not ideal. This is an easier setup for more non-technical folks. They can also use the one-click installation which you can’t if you intend on using the mobile theme with a desktop theme on a single installation of WordPress which brings me onto the next scenario.

2. Single Installation of WordPress using theme switcher

You have a single installation of WordPress and you use a desktop theme and a mobile theme. This way we use the same data. Every time you update your desktop website the changes will be reflected in your mobile website. Great! We use a WordPress plugin to do the mobile detection and switch themes here.

How do we do this?

The mobile theme knows what data to pull because of the relationships between pages and posts. This is enabled using slugs or identifiers. So if you have news posts for your desktop website add an extra category for these called mobilenews. Now create a news page for your mobile website with a slug of mobilenews. Now the relationship is set up and your mobile theme news page will use this same data.

You can now create your mobile theme navigation as a menu to select the mobile news page which displays the posts with id mobilenews. The menu for your desktop theme will select the desktop news page.

It requires a little tinkering though but is straightforward. I did this for http://www.shivanfoundation.org and http://www.londonpropertyrentals2012.co.uk and my customers have been very happy. :)

Will This work with bespoke wordpress themes not studio press?

Also how does it work when installing the theme will it not remove the desktop theme?

Hi there,

It can work as a standalone installation alongside another installation of WordPress so two on the same server or can work on the same installation using a theme switcher. So you have two themes working parallel.

Okay so you have your desktop theme and one installation of WordPress. Great! You add a new theme as you would normally. Now switch to your mobile theme and set up your site. Create a menu for your mobile website. Then install the plugin for mobile detection and theme switching. Away you go your desktop website is now optimised for mobile. All explained in the user documentation which I took hours putting together!

Have a read of my comment above in response to mcollins. It’s about setting up your slugs correctly to get it to work with the same data as your desktop theme.

You cant use the one click installation if you have two themes on the same installation it will mess things up and you will hate me for it.

Great looking theme, just bought it and having a play. This should work on a WordPress Multisite on its own Sub Domain as well. I have followed your instructions for the Theme Switcher so now need to add my content and see if it will work on Multisite. If it works on Multisite then I have a few ideas using this theme….

Hey, thanks for purchasing. Let me know how it goes.

Looks great. Does it support self-hosted HTML5 videos ?

I’d like to have a video gallery if possible?

How does this theme behave on iPad?

realdesigns

Hi there,

The gallery that this theme uses is called photoswipe. It doesn’t allow videos but you could set up the ‘colorbox’ plugin (http://www.jacklmoore.com/colorbox) pretty easily if you wanted to show videos. You’d have to alter the gallery template to get this to work. Why are you self hosting? Cant you put them on YouTube? Save you some money! Works well on the iPad but I prefer to view desktop websites on the iPad not really mobile websites. The choice is yours though!

That’s great to know that I can use the regular theme for iPad – I didn’t know that. What do you use to differentiate ?

I have to self-host as well as vimeo.

Would you be able to help with a colorbox template ?

BTW , I really like this theme ! Great job…

Or can the image gallery be hyperlinked to videos?

I dont tell to like using plugins but will have a template for you at the weekend for your video gallery.

Does this work as a plugin? I want to keep my current theme, but have the smart phones convert the site. Is this what your product does?

Hi mike, it works as a theme alongside your desktop theme on the same wordpress installation or it can work standalone on it’s own installation of wordpress. When the user views your website on a mobile device the mobile theme will be displayed. If they view your website on a desktop computer they will see your desktop website. The wordpress plugin that enables this to happen switches between themes depending on what device the user is viewing your website on.

Wow, nice work realdesigns, I love it! Good luck with sales, I think this theme will do well because it is so versatile! :)

I really need to get a ‘mobile’ site setup in addition to my desktop one, but unfortunately do not “know” Wordpress (aka I’ve never used it or tried it out at all), so I hope maybe you add an HTML Mobile version in the future.

What a great idea. Shouldn’t take more than a couple of weeks. Give me til the end of the month it’ll be online then.

WOW ! amazing stuff, this solves my one click installation needs!! Brilliant, 5 stars!!!

hello, congratulations wonderful layout. Can I remove the button full website template? And redirect contact for a form?

realdesigns

Thanks. This is all configurable within the theme options panel. You can hide the form and hide the website button if you choose not to use.

already installed the template and the plugin on the dial indicated which version mobile

my question is: why not load the mobile version, where do I want to show the set up

thanks

Hi, how have you set this up? Are you using two themes on a single wordpress installation? Have you installed the any mobile theme plugin correctly? You will need to configure this and then switch back and activate your desktop theme. When you view your website on a mobile you will get the mobile version.

To configure the any mobile theme plugin go to settings > any mobile theme.

hI,

I’m looking for a simple admin temp for mobile that my clients can use. does this work pretty well on all major phones like android, blackberry, etc.? Or just iphone? Thnx

Hi it works on iPhone, android and have tested on windows 7 latest and on blackberry. Blackberry is good I have tested on curve and works. Obviously you cant test for every platform. Wow my site would be perfect for what you want. You can test it yourself. Look at www.londonpropertyrentals2012.co.uk on your mobile or shivanfoundation.org.

That’s right, I use a single installation of Wordpress

This mean I should set the template and place him again what I want and then set the desktop template?

What is the correct plugin?

realdesigns
Hi daniel, everything you need to know is written in the user documentation at point 7.1 Theme switcher method. You need to activate your desktop theme and then download and install the plugin ‘Any Mobile Theme Switcher’ into WordPress. You can get the plugin here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/any-mobile-theme-switcher/ Then go to Settings > Any mobile theme and set up the options. Then you will be good to go. Make sure your desktop theme is the active one at all times whilst doing this.

Hi,

Any chance of adding SI simple captcha to the contact form to save us from truckloads of spam ?

Thanks

realdesigns

Hi there, great idea. I’ll look into it and get back to you.

Will this work with headway?

Cheers

realdesigns

Hello. Wow! mySite will work with any theme. You will have to just make sure that when you build your mobile theme that the slug names correspond between pages and posts.

If there are loads of custom post types then you might have a spot of bother and may have to duplicate data creating posts and pages just for your mobile theme.

This is an amazing theme. 5 stars.

Could you walk me through how your demo sites shivanfoundation and londonproperty created the contact us button and email us button.

realdesigns

Thanks!!!

[button name="Call me" link="tel:911911"]

Replace 911911 with your telephone number. Dont have brackets!

This is the correct way:

tel:1-408-555-5555

To colour the button go to Theme Configuration > Navigation and then where it says:

Website buttons Background colour. Includes quick contact buttons, contact page buttons and shortcode button

Add a colour here and that will colour your button.

Thanks. The tel: button link seems to work only in Safari.

Since the contact form is already there, the site email id seems redundant on the Contact Us page. How do I remove the email id ?

realdesigns

Hi, to remove the email address you will have to alter contact-template.php. You do this in WordPress. Go to Appearance > Editor. On the right you have your templates. Click on Contact Template Page Template Now find this chunk of code:

<div> <h3>Email</h3> <a class="contact-detail" href="mailto:<?php echo get_option('admin_email') ?>"> <?php // Check character length $getlength = strlen(get_option('admin_email')); // Set the length to display $thelength = 27; // Display 27 character length string echo substr(get_option('admin_email'), 0, $thelength); // If page title over 27 characters add leaders if ($getlength > $thelength) echo "..."; ?></a> </div>

Remove it. This will remove the email from the contact form.

You can remove the contact form all together if you like in the Theme Configuration panel and then leave the email address. People tend to like seeing an email address. It’s important to have it!!!! I would leave it.
