Hello,

I am going to be creating my first professional photography website soon and am very interested in the Yin&Yang theme. Two questions for you:

1. Could you send me one (or two, or three) photography websites that are using this theme currently? It would help me visualize the layout better.

2. Is there a way to preview the way this theme would look on an ipad, android, iphone, and other mobile devices?

Thanks in advance, Danielle

onioneye

Hi Danielle,

glad you are interested in the theme!

To answer your questions:

1) Unfortunately, I do not keep a database of photography websites, or any other creative sites, that are based on the Yin & Yang theme. I can think of two sites from the back of my head though, so maybe they will help you visualize your site better:

Also, I suggest traversing the older comments out here because a lot of people used to post links to their sites back then, when I was providing support here, instead of the support forum. This page should be a good start: http://themeforest.net/item/yin-yang-clear-and-slick-wp-portfolio-theme/discussion/634395?page=68.

2) It’s always best to use the actual devices for this purpose; nothing can replace that. I suggest borrowing a friend’s device to test this, or going to your nearest Apple/Android shop, to test the site there.

Have fun working with the website, if you end up buying it! :)

Thank you, your response is a huge help. I just have a couple of more questions before I go ahead and purchase.

1. I LOVE the layout of the square boxes. I am wondering if I could lay it out where when you clicked on a box, it would bring the user to a page where they could scroll through numerous photos. Here is an example: http://www.timcoulson.com/ If you click on one of his boxes it will bring you to a page with lots and lots of pictures you could scroll through.

Would I be able to do this with this theme?

Thanks in advance, Danielle

Hi Danielle,

glad I could be of some help. :)

Regarding your latest question, the feature you are describing is called a slider, and Yin & Yang also has one, which you can check out here: http://onioneyethemes.com/yin-and-yang/portfolio/vps/. It is slightly different though, but it also gives you can option to traverse the images by clicking on the pagination (dots), or the left-right buttons, which appear when you hover over the images. You can put up to 10 images in a single slider, but if you need more, there is a simple solution available on the forum: http://onioneye.ticksy.com/ticket/45209

Again, super helpful thanks!

One more question as I’m looking at the site… Is there a way to make the images of different size than the 5×5 template? For example I could then put 5×7’s in that were both vertical and horizontal? I looked through the forum hoping to find the answer for myself but couldn’t.

Thanks again for all of your help. Really appreciated.

Hi Danielle,

you are welcome!

The height of the thumbnails in the portfolio can be easily expanded, with just one simple line of code customization, but expanding the width would be a bit more difficult though, as it would mess up the theme’s grid system.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Default-user

Is this something you think a developer could do In a reasonable amount of time ( adjust the grid width)? If so, I saw in an earlier thread you suggested one…. Could you give me the name of the company? Thanks, Danielle

onioneye

Yes, I do believe so. The name of the company that I highly recommend nowadays is WerkPress, http://werkpress.com/.

Hope this helps!

thank you for your reply.anyway how to buy a ticket?

onioneye

There is no need to buy anything. Once you visit the forum, make sure you register first, and then login and create a ticket for your issue.

You are going to need a purchase code for your theme as well, which can be found inside the License Certificate. Simply head on over to your Downloads page on ThemeForest, click on the item’s download button, and you’ll be able to grab it. For further instructions on how to obtain the purchase code, please have a look at the screenshot provided in the attachments.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. :)

Hi!, It is possible to put a soundcloud link to the portfolio section ? When you click on the previev image you go to the project page and instead a photo i will see my SC track with the possibility to play them ?

Thank you and cheers !

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for taking the theme into consideration!

Regarding your questions, it is most certainly possible to have your soundcloud links in the portfolio projects, and yes, your users will be able to play them straight from your site.

Have a blast working with the Yin & Yang theme, if you end up buying it! :)

Hi, This portfolio gallery looks great. Do you have an HTML version of this template for non-WordPress users? or are you planning to build one in future? I’m good at html and css but have no knowledge in WordPress. I’m very interested in buying and HTML version of this.

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the portfolio great-looking! Thank you for taking the theme into consideration!

As far as your question goes, I am a WordPress developer, who develops only WordPress themes, so I unfortunately do not have an HTML Template version of the Yin & Yang theme, and will probably never build one.

By the way, if you know a bit of PHP as well, learning how to code in WordPress shouldn’t be hard at all. On the other hand, if you do not plan to heavily customize the theme, then working with WordPress is easy as it gets; it’s really one of the most user-friendly softwares out there, so I encourage you to take the plunge and learn it!

Hope this helps. Have fun working with the theme, if you still end up buying it! :)

Hi OnionEye

I love the Ying Yang theme and have been using it for some time now. But with mobile tech advancing so much it really needs to have a Responsive layout. After seeing Tao its starting to feel quite outdated. I would buy the Tao theme but I prefer the top menu and would have to rebuild the whole site again.

I am sure a talented designer like yourself would find it easy to implement a bit of code from your Tao theme to improve this theme.

Please :)

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you love the Yin & Yang theme. Thank you for being so faithful to it! :)

First, I would like to emphasize that the theme is perfectly functional/viewable on mobile devices, and that it works flawlessly across all modern browsers. However, I understand the hype around responsiveness, and that you would like to have it ideally.

I have been thinking about converting the theme countless of times; make no mistake about that. However, in all honesty, that would not be easy at all, believe it or not. The theme is so delicately balanced at the moment, and dependent on fixed-sized modules, that even if I firmly decided to convert it, it would not only require rewriting the whole core, but would also (potentially) make the theme lose its original appeal, and cause some serious usability problems, given how Yin & Yang works at the moment (I’m especially referring to the portfolio). Zooming, instead of endless scrolling (responsive) seems a lot better in this case, in my opinion.

My honest advice for you is to check your analytics to determine what devices your users are utilizing to view your site, and then try the site out on those exact devices, which are important to your audience. Chances are, you don’t even need responsiveness, and even if you think you do, the Yin and Yang theme is already able to respond to that, by being crafted the way it is.

Hope this answers your question. :)

Take care, and have a great weekend,

Hello Onioneye! I really wanted to buy your theme for mypersonal website, only problem here was that Yin n Yang is non responsive. Any clues on how can that be achieved or are u planning to come up with a responsive version. The theme is near perfect in all aspects otherwise. Great themne. Thanks

Hi, i am interested in buying your great theme. Befor I do so, I have 2 questions;

- can I embed other video-platforms then just vimeo and youtube? (for instance: <iframe width=”480” height=”270” frameBorder=”0” src=”http://media.vara.nl/player.php?id=305560”></iframe> )

- is the them responsive to other devices? if not, are you planning an update?

thanks in advance. Regards, Jelle

Hi Jelle,

thank you for taking the theme into consideration!

To answer your questions:

1) To find out what sites you can embed from in WordPress, please check out the following link: http://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds#Okay.2C_So_What_Sites_Can_I_Embed_From.3F

2) The same question was asked above on this page, by a user named “insightdesignstudio.” Please check out my answer there.

Hi, I love the theme but I have two questions before I purchase:

1- As my company make only videos, can the categories (as per the demo) be for different type of videos? or do they have to be for video, photography, etc.?

2- Can I translate the theme to Spanish? or is there any available spanish translation for it?

Thank you in advance :)

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you love the theme! Thank you for taking it into consideration!

To answer your questions:

1) No, they don’t have to. You can certainly have different categories for different types of videos.

2) Si, tĂș puedes. :) It is easy to translate the theme to another language without touching a single line of code. For more information, please check out the following page on the OnionEye forum: http://onioneye.ticksy.com/ticket/94573/

Hello, since my content would be mostly horizontally oriented (photos) and I would like to show it as big as possible, I would like to ask if its easily available to rearange (or hide completely) the project details (date, category, client..) on the right, move them bellow the project (as in Tao) or make the photos clickable to view them bigger. Is it something native or would I have to make big changes in the code itself? Thank you

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for taking the theme into consideration!

As far as your questions go, you can set the images to display one after another, just like in the Tao theme, and then install the Responsive Lightbox to make them larger when clicked. This is possible out of the box. However, rearranging or hiding the project details would take some customization work, but I do not see why this would be a problem for a developer. You can always hire one, if you absolutely need this feature.

Enjoy working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)
