I’ve got a customization question.

When you click on a portfolio item the page scrolls to the top and then the individual item opens.

I’ve added a custom area above the project-wrapper div – what I’m trying to find is where the ‘scroll to’ destination is set. I’d like to have the page scroll to the top top of the project-wrapper div instead of the top of the page.

Thanks for your help.

onioneye

Hi there, again. :)

Replacing the following code, with the code found right below it, should do the job of moving the “scroll to” destination to the project wrapper div:

if( !$.browser.opera ) {
    $.scrollTo(0, 500, { easing: 'easeOutCubic' });
}
else {
    $.scrollTo(0, 300, { easing: 'easeOutCubic' });
}
$.scrollTo('#project-wrapper', 500, { easing: 'easeOutCubic' });

The file that contains the original code is called jquery.header.custom.js, and is found in the /yin_and_yang/js/ directory on your server.

Hi,

I’m still working on the issue of allowing multiple portfolios on my site. I’ve talked to a couple of developers but not sure who to choose. One idea that came to mind though was if i ran two instances of your theme on my page. So instance one wold have one portfolio and when you click a link from teh menu above it takes you to a second instance of the theme. Do you think this would work? the menu would have to be set up on the second instance to take you back to the first instance if they click a link. What are your thoughts?

thanks, jas

onioneye

Hi Jas,

the scenario you are talking about is certainly possible, but it has its drawbacks. The main ones is that you would have to maintain two separate WordPress installations on your server, and buy another copy of the theme, because the regular licence you purchased, only covers one instance of the Yin & Yang theme. For more information on the licence you purchased, please read the following page: http://themeforest.net/licenses/regular_extended

With that said, I don’t see why maintaining two installations should be a big problem, if your site doesn’t have a ton of links in the menu, but I still think that customizing the theme is a slightly better idea, even though your idea might end up saving you a few hundreds of bucks, depending on the complexity of the customization in hand.

I guess it’s all up to you know. I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide to do! :)

Sincerely,

OnionEye

PLease can you tell me how i change the amount of items that show on the homepage?

Many Thanks.

onioneye

Ignored on request.

By the way, thanks for buying the Yin & Yang theme! Appreciate it very much. :)

Best of luck,

ignore the last question :-)

Hi! I love this theme and have had a blast customizing it. However the past couple weeks I’ve run into a few instances where the portfolio items, once selected, were not sliding and showing the contents. It jerks as if it’s going to move & then doesn’t open the div.

I have no plugins active at the moment other than akismet & jetpack.

primocrtv.com is the domain. Could you possibly give me a hand?

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you love the theme! Thanks a lot for the purchase. :)

As far as the portfolio items go, it seems that you have some kind of an URL redirection setup on your server, which causes the AJAX requests to fail, and return the 302 (Moved Temporarily) HTTP errors.

The domain to which the requests are being sent to is http://www.iamprimo.com/ and the one you gave me is http://primocrtv.com/. If you visit the first one, you will see that everything works fine.

You next step would be to contact your host, and tell them about this. They should know more.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hi, Just purchased theme & am very excited about getting my site together. Beautiful theme.

- Can I replace the font used in the ‘Headline Introduction Text’ with the same font used for ‘PORTFOLIO’/’ALL’/’ILLUSTRATION’/’CLIENTS’? I really like the sans serif cleanness & all caps look of it.

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme beautiful! Thanks for buying it. :)

The following CSS code should do the job of changing the tagline’s font:

#main-headline { font: normal 17px/22px "Yanone Kaffeesatz", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; }

You can include the code at the bottom of the style.css file, or via some plugin, made for the purpose of embedding custom CSS to the theme.

Hi onioneye, it’s a great theme, flexible and easy to work with, I’m having a great time putting my portfolio together.

I’m having some trouble with customization though, my graphic skills are good but my CSS programming is not, I hope you can help.

I need to change several theme colors and can’t find exactly which style.css lines I should modify. Colors are: active category button, contact form send button, contact dropdown and blog entries overlay, and text selection.

Also I need to add some fields besides “Client” to single portfolio additional information, how could I do it?

Thanks in advance!

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for all the wonderful compliments about the theme, and for the purchase! Glad you like Yin & Yang so much. :)

Unfortunately, I’m unable to provide support for modifications beyond one or two lines of code, and yours are much, much more complex, and that especially goes for the addition of new fields to the portfolio items, but for a couple of “style” requests as well, as some require changing multiple lines of code for normal, active, and hover states, which include CSS3 code like gradients and box shadows, and “regular” CSS2 .1 code as well. However, what I can do is provide you with the files that need to be customized, in order to make your modifications happen, so here they are:

  • style.css
  • portfolio-metaboxes.php
  • theme-functions.php
  • single-portfolio.php

I usually charge for these types of modifications, but I stopped accepting freelance work for the time being, because I will be buried in work over the next few months. Therefore, my best suggestion for you is to turn to the forums, or Envato’s freelance marketplace, http://freelanceswitch.com/ to find a skillful and reputable freelancer for the job.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

First off let me tell you Awesome job on this theme, I love it.

I have a question, I was wondering if there is a way to organize the portfolio items other than by manually changing the publish date? I would like many items to display next to each other, but since I did not create them one after another, they are spread across the board. Thanks in advance!

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you love the theme! Thanks a lot for the purchase. :)

As far as your question goes, the only way to rearrange the items is by changing their publishing dates, so I’m afraid that the answer to your question would be no. Any other types of organization of the portfolio items would require some custom development on your behalf.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

My website seems to take a long time to load http://www.insightdesignstudio.com.au/

It seems to take a while when loading fonts.googleapis.com…

Is there anything I could do to speed it up ?

Cheers Will

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

The “Simple TinyMCE” plugin, or a plugin of a similar name, which you are using, is loading a considerable amount of google fonts, which is slowing your website down.

You should be aware that the author discontinued support for the mentioned plugin, for the very same reason stated above, which is also mentioned on the plugin’s page:

NOTE : I have decided to discontinue updates to this plugin. The primary reason is the inclusion of the google fonts. Adding all these fonts increased page load times. I have another plugin, “Ultimate TinyMCE”, which is the exact same as this plugin, but without the google fonts added. It also has my most current updates to the tinymce editor. I strongly urge you to read below, follow the instructions, and stay updated with my “Ultimate TinyMCE” plugin.

By the way, to further speed things up, consider removing other plugins, which you are not using on the site, and installing some caching plugin, like the excellent W3 Total Cache.

Best of luck,

OnionEye

Hi there! i like this theme and consider buying it soon. on your demo site, you have 7 categories in portfolio section (All, illustration, logo, photography, etc..) How will it impact the layout if I have about 20 categories?

Thanks.

Yiren

onioneye

Hi Yiren,

thanks for taking an interest in the theme! Glad you like it.

As far as your question goes, the containing box will expand all the way to the “Portfolio” title, while leaving a bit of white space on the left, of course, so the two don’t “touch.” The filter categories that can’t fit on the first row, will be displayed in the row below it, and so on, until all your categories are displayed.

Enjoy working with Yin & Yang, if you end up buying it! :)

Great looking theme! I’m considering purchasing this theme for a furniture design company – Is this theme able to work with an e-commence plug-in? For example, each portfolio item was a picture of a desk that could be purchased.

Its a very stylish theme that suits the company very well. It is difficult to find an e-commerce theme that looks this good.

Thanks

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme great! Thanks for taking an interest in it.

As far as your question goes, I had a few clients, who integrated some e-commerce plugins in the theme, but in all honestly, I don’t know if everything worked straight out of the box for them, or if they had to customize some things, but I guess that with any plugin of this complexity, it might be required to modify some code, in order to make the plugin blend in with the theme, not only by design, but by functionality as well. Having said that, Yin & Yang is mainly a portfolio theme, so I would always recommend buying an e-commerce theme instead, for e-stores, but WordPress is full of excellent plugins that can transform a theme into anything you want, so I guess it’s all up to you now.

I hope this helps in choosing what’s best for you. Enjoy working with Yin & Yang, if you end up buying it! :)

Hi there, i know that follow question is already addressed in the past, but I would like to know if currently there is the possibility of having a “lightbox” on each item project / job. Thanks again for your support. Best regards.

Hi there, again. :)

You are very much welcome. I provided an answer in your post below this one, so please check it out.

I tried using this plugin: “lightbox Plus” (the last version)...but doesn’t work. Could you help to set it? Thanks

onioneye

Hi there,

most lightbox plugins, like the Fanybox Plus plugin, will work out of the box for images, that you upload in the content editor (large text area) because those images are linked to their full-sized counterparts. However, the images in the sliders are (almost) never linked like that in the real world, as is the case with the slider in this theme as well, so some development work is required of you to make this work.

Hint: In most cases, the files you would have to modify are theme-functions.php and single-portfolio.php. If you are not sure how to do this, my best suggestion is to turn to the forums, or Envato’s freelance marketplace, http://freelanceswitch.com/ to find a freelancer, who should be able to complete the job quickly for you.

Hi, I’m having problems to use theme, I installed it but nothing happens, I have a blank page. What kind of problem is it? Can you please help me solving this? I bouth the theme about 2 months ago and since then I can do anything with it :( Thank you!!

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

Chances are, you are installing the theme improperly. You need to unzip the file you downloaded and upload the theme found inside it. Please see Solving broken theme issues. Also, you can refer to the theme’s documentation, where you can find the instructions on how to install the theme.

With that said, if you are absolutely sure you installed the theme properly, then there’s a lot of things that might be causing the theme to malfunction, like your copy of WordPress being corrupt, or some cooky setting on your server. In that case, please provide me with a link to your site, either by replying to this post (there is a “Reply” button, found at the start of the thread), or sending me an email via the contact form on my profile page, if you want to keep things private.

By the way, you are not running your site on a wordpress.com account, right?

Hi! We love the theme! One question: Is there a way to display blog posts instead of portfolio items on the home page as a grid? This way, the categorization would have to work for the blog categories instead of the portfolio item categories. I know we would have to change the php files for this but this would help us so much with the website of a client. Thank you in advance :)

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you love the theme! Thanks for buying it. :)

Having the blog posts instead of the portfolio posts is something which is certainly possible, but since it is not available out of the box, some code restructuring is required to make it happen, which is most definitely a task for a skillful developer.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hi there, I have also purchased other templates and they usually come with a certain amount of already in there sample pages. That would be great here too. I have no idea how to make a contact form (including a map etc.) here. How can i do it ? Do you have example pages to find somewhere ? Thanks a lot. Thomas.

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

The XML demo content file is available for this theme as well, so no worries about that. Here is the file: http://ge.tt/6LiIzHH/v/0?c

By the way, please read the theme’s documentation, that’s found in the main folder. It contains all the instructions on how to install and completely setup the theme, such as the homepage, the menu, and the rest of the features. It also contains the instructions on how to use the gmap and the contact form shortcodes, and a bunch of other useful things as well.

Oh, and if you were referring to the drop-down page by any chance, you can set it it in the “Top Drop-Down Page” option, found inside the Theme Options panel, once you are done with editing and saving the page you want to represent your drop-down page.

Sincerely,

Hello, I´m trying to add a image to my portfolio item, but it´s not displaying. I´ve imported the demo data xml, and the images are all ok. What I´m doing wrong?

thanks, Rafael Duckur

onioneye

Hi Rafael,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

As far as your issue goes, please make sure the “File URL ” button is selected, when you are setting the images in the media uploader.

Screenshot of the “File URL ” button: http://www.diigo.com/item/image/1mr8l/sjb1?size=o

Note: you only have to click the File URL button once, and it will be active for all other images set in the future, but you are going to have to go back and reselect the images that have already been set.

In case the File URL button is indeed selected, then please share the link to your site, by replying to this post, so I can inspect things.

Hi, I would love to purchase your theme. I’m a graphic designer, web designer, and photographer. It’s such a great theme so I really don’t plan on modifying it very much. I do plan on adding “buy now” buttons to link to my pay pal account for photography prints, logo designs, and illustrations. I have Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 .5. What software do I need to install and edit your theme with? I’m new to Word Press and I’m having a hard time sorting through all of the information to find out what I need to do to prepare for launch after purchase, and edits. Also, does theme only work with Word Press or can I just find a host for php?

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for taking an interest in the theme, and for the wonderful compliment about it! :)

If you are absolutely new to WordPress, I urge you to read the official documentation ( http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page ), in order to quickly get up and running with this excellent piece of software. It’s the only thing you need to install and edit the theme because WordPress allows you to edit the code of the files directly in the admin panel. However, Dreamweaver should do a good job as well.

Yin & Yang is a WordPress theme, so it only runs in WordPress, but WordPress is based on PHP so almost every host out there should support it.

Also, please be aware that the theme comes with the documentation, which contains all the instructions on how to install and completely setup the theme.

Enjoy working with Yin & Yang, if you end up buying it! :)

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Let me start with saying, I love the theme!

With that said, I am using this theme to put together my online portfolio. On the Wordpress site I uploaded my items under the portfolio section. I am able to view all of the work I have done once I upload it and click the button to view the page, but when I go to my actual website, my portfolio is nowhere on the site or on the homepage like it is in the example. How do I fix this so that my portfolio is the first thing you see, just like on the example site? Also, how do I add a contact page?

Thanks!

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you love the theme! Thanks for buying it. :)

Please read the documentation, that’s found in the main folder. It contains all the instructions on how to install and setup the theme.

As far as the drop-down page goes, here’s the content of the demo’s contact page, that goes in the HTML view of the content editor, if you want to have the same formatted page as the one in the demo. You just need to change a few things, such as the email addresses, and some other data.

http://snippi.com/s/jb0f22c

By the way, once you are done with editing the page, be sure to select it in the “Top Drop-Down Page” option, found inside the Theme Options panel, and you should be good to go.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hello” Thanks for this awesome theme, which I like working with. I have come across a strange mistake though: the contact form I hae included from your shortcodes gives me an error each time I am trying to send a mail to test…I can’t figure out the reason.

And second- forgive me, but I am not sure how to handle updates of the theme- I swa that I has been updates recently and how do I do it in my Wordpress now? Download the theme again and exchange files? But which ones? Help would be very very appreciated. Thanks!

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme awesome! Thanks for buying it. :)

Please make sure you are entering the contact form shortcode in the HTML view of the content editor, instead of the visual view, and that the code is properly formatted (you can see an example of a shortcode in the documentation, and all the allowed attributes). If that doesn’t work for you, then please share the link to your site with me, by replying to this thread, so I can inspect things.

As far as the updates go, if you haven’t modified any of the theme’s files directly, the best method would be to replace the “yin_and_yang” folder, found in the /wp-content/themes/ directory on your server, with the freshly downloaded, and unzipped “yin_and_yang” folder, via FTP .

Sincerely,

OnionEye
