Alrighty Onioneye

Smashing template to work with so far.

About to finalise the design. Been cycling through the pages on this forum past few weeks and been getting on well and help I need through that. Though I could not take any more after page 20 trying to find what I was after! So it is obvious ones and ones you have likely been asked multiple times. (I am a noob at this, so bare with me)

1. How do I get rid of the the portfolio icon (the science flask) but keep the line of text? I have seen you give lines of code for getting rid of the icon and text, but not just the icon.

2. How do I get rid of the Clients icon and line of text? (Both in this case)

3. Is it possible to get rid of just the top dotted line (tiny black dots that have 3 rows) it sits between the header of the page and portfolio. I just want the top one gone not the rest.

4. Is it possible to edit the gap between widgets? I imagine it is, but where would I edit this in the coding, I tried widgets in the style sheet, but didn’t see anything that looked like I should mess with.

5. You had multiple people asking about how to stop the page snapping to the top of the screen when when you cycle through projects (usualy when you have a large header its a problem like me) You gave this link to a line of code http://snippi.com/s/fso62l1 however, I have no idea where to paste the line of code. tried sticking at the bottom of the style.css like I have with others. No results (I also changed the values of 0’s as you said)

SO yeah, help would be greatly appreciated and I can at last get the site up officially.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

thanks for the compliment about the theme, and for the purchase, of course! Glad you are enjoying working with the Yin & Yang theme. :)

To answer your questions:

1, 2, 3) The following custom CSS code should do the job:

#portfolio-header h2 { background: none; padding-left: 0; }
.clients h2 { display: none; }
#content { background: none; padding-top: 0; }

You can include the code at the bottom of the style.css file, or via some plugin, made for the purpose of embedding custom CSS to the theme.

4) The margins are found under the “Typography” section, but I advise you against touching these, if you are not 100% certain about what you are doing because you will “upset” the theme’s vertical rhythm.

5) Please have a look at the first post on the 72nd page of this forum. You will everything you need there, to complete your task.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Worked amazingly! Thanks so much, especially being so fast with the response and answer to the question. Its up and running now and look swish!

Though one other question has popped up due to you solving the (client logo and text removal question) I have a single banner there in client area (using the client logo upload you built into the wordpress) I want to make this into a newtab window link to the desired separate site. Tried to enter the desired link into the actual image. But seems to remain unclickable / linkable or maybe I did it wrong. Just not sure if maybe its been locked as it wasn’t originally made for this function.

Thanks again and sorry for the other question in advance! Everything else is great though!

onioneye

Hi there,

you are very much welcome! Glad you are so satisfied with my support. :)

If you want to make your image clickable, you would have to edit the theme’s template-home.php file.

Hello onion eye,

Thank you again for all of your prompt responses. I know i asked quite a few questions yesterday :-)

I do have another….of course!

I’d like the URL to change when you click a portfolio item as well as allowing browser back and forward buttons to work. I’ve heard you can uses hashes and/or pushState and popState. I don’t mind in dabbling in amateur php/js coding. But can you tell me where i would make these modifications (which files)?

Thanks, Jas

onioneye

Hi Jas,

you are very much welcome! Glad I could be of some help. :)

When it comes to the permalinks, you would have to modify the jquery.header.custom.js file, and possibly some other files as well, depending on how exactly you are introducing this change. I suggest utilizing one of the two following plugins, for the project:

https://github.com/balupton/History.js/

or

http://benalman.com/projects/jquery-hashchange-plugin/

Note: a good understanding of AJAX and jQuery is a must for this task.

Good luck with this!

Hi,

I’ve read through all the documentation but can’t work out what i’m doing wrong, i’ve created a couple of portfolio posts but it’s not showing up on my home page. Am i doing something wrong?

Many thanks, and great theme!

Hi there,

glad you find the theme great! Thanks for buying it. :)

Please go over the “Setting up the Homepage” section of the documentation again, and make sure you carefully follow all the instructions given there. Once you are done with that, you should be fine.

Hi there,

you are most probably not assigning the “Home” template to the page, which has been set as your front page, under the Settings -> General tab of your WordPress admin panel, so please make sure you are doing that.

P.S. if you share the link to your site with me, I will be able to tell exactly what you are missing.

hello onion eye,

a few more questions. i hope you are not getting too annoyed :)

1) when you hover over a portfolio item, there is a ’+’ sign. Is this an image that can be replaced with something of our own? Where can this be found?

2) Have any of your purchasers changed the theme in such a manner that when you click on a portfolio item, a light box appears?

3) can i put an image where it says headline text? it didnt’ seem to be accepting my

onioneye

Hi Jas,

to answer your latest questions:

1) Yes, this is an image, which can be found and replaced in the /yin_and_yang/images/layout/ directory on your server. It is of the PNG format, and is named “view-details”.

2) I’ve seen it happen a few times, but I unfortunately don’t have the links to these sites. However, I’m sure almost every conceivable thing can be done with the theme, with a bit of development work on your behalf.

3) This section is meant for your tagline. If you want to have an image in there, you are going to have to modify the header.php file.

ahhh…i lost #4 again.

4) How can I add a custom social networking icon at the bottom? I don’t see a way in the wp-admin panel under theme options.

thanks, jas

onioneye

Hi Jas,

adding another social media “option” is certainly possible, but since it is not available out of the box, some development work would be required of you. This is most definitely a task for a developer.

Hint: after uploading your icon to the server, the files you would need to modify are style.css, options.php and theme-functions.php (the “eq_get_the_social_networks” function).

Hello Onioneye,

I need to know, if it´s possible, how can I change the order of portfolio items. I uploaded some items already, but I wait your answer to go on, bacause if that change can´t be done, I´ll order everything before uploading the rest.

Thanks for your help! Florencia.

onioneye

Hi Florencia,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

You can reorder the portfolio items by changing their publishing dates, in the Publish settings box, when you are editing existent, or making new items.

Hello!

Just bought this beautiful theme, but when I try to install it with the WP installer, it says it can’t install because it’s missing style css. I know it’s zipped within another folder, but I can’t make it install. Sorry kind of new at this. Thanks.

Hi there,

no worries. You are just trying to install the theme improperly. You need to unzip the file you downloaded and upload the theme found inside it. Please see Solving broken theme issues.

Hi! I have this theme and I absolutely love it. It’s beautifully done and easy to navigate (in terms of making changes, etc).

I have a few quick questions. I really want the arrows in the portfolio slider/gallery to not fade out. It’s really hard to see that it’s an option when on mobile devices. Any suggestions? I’m not sure what/where to target.

Also, I can’t seem to get any new Javascript/jQuery to work on the homepage, although it will work in individual posts/permalinks. I might be missing something.

The site is located at http://kristencork.com.

P.S. If someone eventually finds a quick and easy way to permalink the main portfolio items, I’d appreciate some pointers! I’m not enough of a developer to do it on my own, although I like to think I’m able to navigate things with enough guidance.

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you love the theme so much! Thanks a lot for the purchase. :)

To answer your questions:

1) I updated the site just a week, or two ago, to make the slider advance to the next slide, when the current slide is clicked. That should make the slider’s navigation much more usable on mobile devices. However, if you still want to show the arrows by default, you would need to delete the selectors with the opacity property-value, under the “Portfolio Slider” section of the style.css file. Once you are done with that, you would probably need to modify the code under the “Slider Next Prev Navigation” section of the jquery.header.custom.js file as well.

2) You can always put your custom JavaScript code at the end of the jquery.footer.custom.js file, and it will be executed on every single page.

Hello, Great Theme.

Went through a lot of the comments but havn’t seen anyone ask about the performance of the theme on a ipad or iphone. There is one issue that hopefully you can help me resolve: The bottom panel that goes up and down with the + icon on the bottom left hand corner does not anchor to the bottom of the screen, when scrolling on longer pages or portfolios the bar stays in the middle of the screen.

1.Is there any way to make the panel stay anchored to the bottom of the screen on mobile devices and tablets? (Just like on desktops)

If not

2. Is there a way to turn the bottom panel off just on mobile devices and tablets?

If not 3. Is there a way to turn off the bottom panel totally?

Thanks S

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme great! Thanks for buying it. :)

As far as I know, the “slide-up” tab works perfectly in the 3rd generation of iPads. However, if it’s not working for you properly in other, older generations, you can use the following code to remove the tab on iPhones and iPads:

if (Modernizr.touch) {
    $overlayHandle.hide();
    $slideDiv.hide();
}

You should include the code at the bottom of the jquery.footer.custom.js file, in order for everything to work properly. Also, you can disable the tab on all devices, by activating one of the options in the Theme Options panel.

Hi, I have a few questions:

1) Any plans to add support for Retina Display? The option to add different versions of the same image depending on the display, I mean.

2) How can I widen the page? 700 is proving too small for landscape format art.

3) Can I increase the number of images per portfolio item?

4) How do you edit the < > buttons on the portfolio items?

Sorry for overloading you with questions.

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

To answer your questions:

1) Unfortunately, no.

2) You would have to modify the following files, to achieve this:

  • theme-functions.php
  • single-portfolio.php
  • style.css

3) Yes, but you would have to edit the theme’s code. I would imagine this would take a developer under a half an hour or so to complete.

Hint: the files that need to be modified are called portfolio-metaboxes.php, theme-functions.php, and upload-button.js.

4) You would have to upload your own images for the navigation buttons, and edit the style.css file, to reflect that change.

Hi

Really love the theme! :)

Wanted to make a few modifications but can’t seem to figure it out…

1) Is it possible to remove the roll over effect on the portfolio images?

2) I wanted to have just one large portfolio item on the homepage, is this possible?

3) If it is would it be possible to make it a slide show of say 3 images or am I getting into developer territory?

Thanks in Advance

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you love the theme! Thanks for buying it. :)

All three of your tasks are possible, but they definitely involve some development work, since they are not available out of the box. The first one involves editing only the style.css file, but the other two are much more complex, and involve quite a bit of development work, so they are most definitely a task for a developer.

A simple pre-purchase question, if I may. Is there a way, or the option of, having the landing page be just a page, not the portfolio? Thanks, Josh

Hi there,

Hi,

Is there a way to change the order of the filters or categories in the portfolio? they seem to be in alphabetical order right now. can we change it to how we want it?

Thanks, jas

onioneye

Hi there,

To reorder the categories, you would have to modify the get_terms function, found in the template-home.php file. Here’s the official documentation that covers that function: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_terms

By the way, I’m not exactly sure you can reorder it in the exact order you want, by modifying the above-mentioned function. For that, you would have to explore other methods of displaying the categories, which is most certainly a task for a developer.

Hello onion eye

Thank you for the great response! Can you tell me what files or functions to look at where it displays the categories? Perhaps if I come up with a naming scheme like a_Category3, b_category1, c_category2 I can strip of the first two characters before displaying or something.

Hello onioneye,

Do you have a link of “Commonly Asked Questions” about this theme? :)

if not, I have 3 questions:

1. Is there a way to change/select a specific category to be the default on the homepage/portfolio instead of “All”?

2. Is it possible to add keyword tags on our portfolio pieces so they could be easily searched? how?

3. How do we create a “Contact Form”?

(I apologize in advance if you’ve already covered these questions.. :X) Thanks!

-liz

onioneye

Hi Liz,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

To answer your questions:

1) Unfortunately, there is no FAQ section, but that should change sometimes in the future, once I decide to build a dedicated forum for support, and if Envato doesn’t improve this comment area (makes it searchable, gives the possibility to people to reply to each others posts etc.).

2) I’m afraid this is not a possibility with the filtering feature. For further information, please refer to the documentation of the script, used for filtering the items in the theme: http://razorjack.net/quicksand/docs-and-demos.html

3) As far as I know, this is not possible in WordPress as well. It could be though, but you would probably have to change the way WordPress handles search, which is most definitely a task for a developer. By the way, please bear in mind that we are talking about a general WordPress feature here, rather than one directly related to the theme, so I suggest you do some googling on the whole matter.

4) The contact form is a shortcode, which can be inserted in the HTML view of the content editor (large text area), which appears, when you are editing existing, or making new pages or posts. For further information on how to use the shortcodes, provided with the theme, please refer to the documentation.

Hi Onioneye,

Just a quick question. I am familiar with this theme and i would like to purchase it again, the only thing holding me back is the limitation of 6 images to be added to a portfolio item. Is this limitation still there?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

onioneye

Hi Paul,

thanks for taking the theme into consideration again!

The code has long been updated to support 11 images per a portfolio item (1 preview image + 10 slider images), but if that’s still not enough, you can always modify the theme to support more. It’s an easy job for a developer, and involves changing the following files: portfolio-metaboxes.php, theme-functions.php, and upload-button.js. I would imagine this would take a developer under a half an hour or so to customize.

Have lots of fun working with Yin & Yang again, if you end up buying it! :)

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I considered myself a good enough developer to change this myself but now I seem to have screwed it up. I changed the files to enable the upload of 15 images to a portfolioitem. (This is in v1.0 by the way.) This did not seem to work – after clicking the “Use this Image” button the bar in which the image URL should appear remained empty – so I replaced the files with the old files. The error still occurs. I now am unable to add images to new or current portfolio-items.

Is there also a cache to clear or something like that?

Thanks,

Paul

onioneye

Hi Paul,

you are very much welcome. If the portfolio doesn’t work for you properly, after modifying the theme, and after trying to restore the original code, then you must have not done it properly because I truly don’t believe cache hasn’t got anything to do with this. My best suggestion for you now is to replace the whole theme folder on your server, with the original one, in case you only modified the mentioned section of the theme, related to the portfolio images.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

paulteriele

Hi,

I found the problem, I simply looked over the fact that the media-uploader didn’t include a file url in the box. Clicking “File URL ” did the trick.

Now I’m able to upload 1+15 images. Thank you very much!

onioneye

Hi there,

this is possible, but since it is not available out of the box, some development work is required of you, which is most definitely a task for a developer.

Hint: the main thing to do here would be to make a taxonomy.php file.
