Hi, I have just purchased your theme but when I tried to download it an error message occured that it not exist. Any suggestion where can be the problem?thanks

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks a lot for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

If you are referring to the download of the theme from this marketplace, owned by the Envato company, then there is absolutely nothing to worry about because there seems to have been a temporary glitch within their system, documented in the following forum post: http://themeforest.net/forums/thread/cant-download-any-of-my-purchase-files/72463. Having said that, please proceed to your “Downloads” page once again, to successfully download the theme this time around.

By the way, once you download the theme, please make sure you read the documentation, that’s found in the main folder. It contains all the detailed instructions on how to install and completely setup everything, so it will definitely be of some help to you.

Good luck! :)

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hello! Just a quick one, can I change the “All” on our homepage to “Latest” and only have 16 display as apposed to all the new portfolio pieces: www.thoughtcapital.co.za :)

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

As far as your question goes, you can change the mentioned word and limit the number of items on your homepage, by modifying the template-home.php file. However, if you wish to have a completely different page, where all the items are displayed, then more development work would be required of you, and that is most definitely a task for a skillful developer.

Thank you – where in the code do I change it? <?php $count = 0; $id_suffix = 1; $items_per_row = 4; $quality = 90; $my_query = new WP_Query( array( ‘posts_per_page’ => ‘-1’, ‘post_type’ => ‘portfolio’ ) ); $grid_class = ‘grid_3’; $desired_width = 220; $desired_height = 190; $terms = get_terms( ‘portfolio_categories’ ); $count_terms = count( $terms ); ?>

onioneye

Hi there,

the mentioned word can be changed on the 37th line of code of the template-home.php file:

<span class="term-name"><?php _e( 'All', 'onioneye' ); ?></span>

As far as the number of displayed items goes, you would need to change this line of code, found in the same file:

$my_query = new WP_Query( array( 'posts_per_page' => '-1', 'post_type' => 'portfolio' ) );

Note: by changing the posts_per_page argument, you will manage to limit the number of displayed items on the page, but how you will display the others is a completely different task, that involves quite a lot of work, so if you were planning something like that, please be aware that it is most definitely a task for a skillful developer.

Best of luck,

Hi there,

How do I get the “contact” section like the one shown on the live demo? (pull down, with map, and contact form)

Thanks!

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for the purchase! Appreciate it very much. :)

Here’s the content of the demo’s contact page, that goes in the HTML view of the content editor, if you want to have the same formatted page as the one in the demo. You just need to change a few things, such as the email addresses, and some other data.

http://snippi.com/s/jb0f22c

By the way, once you are done with editing the page, be sure to select it in the “Top Drop-Down Page” option, found inside the Theme Options panel, and you should be good to go.

Hello! All worked great for a few months now but now sometimes (not always) the portfolio submenu is not working. The portfolio items can’t be loaded… When this problem shows up, I restart safari and it works again.

Safari Version 6.0 Wordpress 3.4.1 is installed. http://www.driemeyerdesign.de/portfolio/

Any Ideas? Thanks very much!

onioneye

Hi there,

glad the theme has been working great for you (don’t worry, it still is). Thanks for the purchase. :)

The reason behind the items’ inability to load on the page sometimes is that WordPress has you “marked” as admin, when you are logged in, and viewing your site at the same time. Now, as soon as you log out, you lose that status, and with it, you lose the permissions to execute AJAX requests (i.e. load items) as well, in the tabs where your site is active, because WordPress can’t recognize you as admin anymore, so the security system kicks in, and blocks you from executing any further AJAX requests.

Having said all that, you need to open you site in a new tab, if you log out from your WordPress admin panel, in the meantime. That’s why your items weren’t loading at times, but worked perfectly OK, when the browser was restarted.

Is there any way to add my instagram feed to the portfolio? Thanks!!

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

As far as your question goes, I’m not exactly sure if you can, and how easy it would be to add your instagram feed to the portfolio, but I am sure that you can use one of the many available widget plugins for instagram, to show the mentioned feed in one of the available widget areas (sidebars and footer slide-up section).

I suggest you do some googling, to find out which plugin suits you the best. Also, here is the official plugin repository, which will definitely be of good use to you: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

Hope this helps!

OK. Thank you. I was hoping to have a page dedicated to my instagram photos instead of in the widget area. I mess around and see if I can figure it out. Thanks again!

Hi! I am very happy using your beautiful theme but I have recently found an issue on one of my pages.

This page has a password for front-end users and it seemed to work well but now, when a user try to enter the password, the page redirects to the admin login. Do you know what can be the problem?

Thanks in advance!

onioneye

Hi there,

I see that you have some third-party code (plugins) installed in the theme, which is most probably the cause behind the password protection’s strange behavior. I suggest you disable all of your plugins one by one, to see which one is causing this. My suspect is the multi-language plugin you have in use.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Thanks. I will try this. Regards!

You are very much welcome! I wish you the best of luck. :)

Hello, great theme you have here!

I saw previous comments and there is no pagination :( I want to upload a lot of items so in the future the home would loading very slow… Can I use the Infinite Scroll plugin? What’s the Content Selector and Post Selector to fill the plugins settings? You can see the fields here: http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/6348/5762574ba78567b160f398b.png

I took a look at the demo page code but it is quite confusing. I love the design but I’m wary to buy the theme.

Regards, Bruno Moura

EDIT . Can I disable ajax? This isn’t good for SEO purposes… When I open a portfolio item can it loads a new page and respective link?

Can I change the “portfolio” custom-type? I don’t have good skills in development and I don’t want look for a web developer.

Sorry for my english :p

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme great! Thanks for taking an interest in it. :)

Regarding the pagination, I am sure that using a plugin of that complexity with the portfolio template would require some development work, not only to make the plugin fit in by functionality, but to make it look good as well. That’s why entering those two fields won’t help you much.

You may have checked it out already, but the awesome crew behind sublvl. managed to make the pagination, and I must say that it looks and works absolutely great: http://www.sublvl.com/

Now, to answer your two other questions, asked in the edit section:

1) Sure thing. Disabling AJAX only requires removing two lines of code from the theme. I can help you with that, if you decide to buy the theme in the end.

Note: it has become a general misconception that AJAX is bad for SEO . While in some cases it is because the development has been handled badly, that is not the case with the Yin & Yang theme. AJAX doesn’t have any negative affect on your site because the links to the portfolio item pages are perfectly preserved, so the crawlers can index everything.

2) If you are just referring to the naming in that custom post type, then you can change the titles, with minimum technical knowledge; otherwise, this would definitely be a task for a developer.

I sincerely hope this helps in deciding whether you want to buy the theme, or not. Good luck whatever you end up doing! :)

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Other question: when I add ‘feed’ to the demo homepage link (http://onioneyethemes.com/yin-and-yang/feed) I see the RSS but only appears blog posts… I can’t add the portfolio posts?

onioneye

Hi there,

custom post types (the portfolio, in this case) can be easily added to the main feed, so no worries about that.

Once again, enjoy working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)

Hi there,

please read the documentation, that’s found in the main folder. It contains all the instructions on how to install and completely setup the theme, including the portfolio.

By the way, if you happen to be new to WordPress, then please check out the official docs, that cover this amazing piece of software. That should get you up and running with it in no time. http://codex.wordpress.org/

Great theme, one little question, how do I import the xml with the demo content? (http://ge.tt/6LiIzHH/v/0?c ) I couldn’t find the option,

thx in advance!

edit: Nevermind, I thought the xml was for theme options only, like optiontree xml’s … I opened it and found that was the file that wordpress importer plugin uses… I’m running it now, let’s see if it works ;)

edit 2: mmh, it imported the posts and pages but not the theme options… a faq or a minitutorial for importing demo content would be great

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme great! Thanks for buying it. :)

When it comes to the demo content, once you import it, be sure to set your homepage under the Settings -> Reading tab (you have the instructions for that in the theme’s documentation), and select the demo menu in the Theme Locations box, under the Appearance -> Menus tab of your WordPress admin panel. Once that is done, just navigate to the Appearance -> Theme Options tab, and set a few options there. They are all straightforward as they can get, so you’ll need just a few extra minutes to set everything up as you see in the demo theme.

By the way, if you get stuck anywhere, please make sure you check out the documentation, as it contains the detailed instructions on how to setup the theme you bought.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hi, love the theme.

I had a question: I was wondering if for the portfolio posts it would be possible to have images and a video(s) in the same post. So it would be like if you had multiple images for a post (which works great), but instead of one of the images, it were a video. This doesn’t seem to be possible with the current settings.

Thank you in advance.

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you love the theme! Thanks for the purchase. :)

As far as having both videos and images in a single item is concerned, the video embedded in the video field always overrides the images, so you can’t have both in a single item, by utilizing their standardized options. However, you can easily circumvent this by embedding your videos straight in the content editor (large text area), while including your images as your normally would, via the “Browse” buttons.

Hi OnionEye! thanks for create this beautiful theme, and excuse me for disturb you, ok here we go:

1. How can i custumize the “lines of points” or elements graphics in the home page, or can i remove the “lines of points” ?

2. How can i custumize the typography of the portfolio section or full page?

3. How can i custumize the button colors of the portfolio section?

thank you very much! you are a good taste jaj

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme beautiful! Thanks for the purchase. :)

To answer your questions:

1) The borders can be customized by modifying the following lines of code, found under the “Typography” section of the main stylesheet (style.css):

#content, .clients, .footer-meta, .project-title, .item-categories, .item-metadata, .portfolio-shared, #main .comment-list li, .single-post .share-this { background: url('images/layout/border-img.png') 0 0 repeat-x; }
.project-title, .item-categories, .item-metadata { background-position: left bottom; }

2) You can do so by modifying the code under the “Portfolio Project” section of the style.css file.

3) The buttons are images, found in the yin_and_yang/images/ directory on your server. You have their PSD file in the main folder, that you got, when you bought the theme, so you would have to work on it in photoshop, and then upload the modified versions of the icons to your server. Once that is done, you would need to change the above mentioned section of the main stylesheet, to put the new icons in use, and make everything look good.

By the way, basic to intermediate CSS and (basic) photoshop knowledge are a must for these tasks.

Hi Onioneye,

Love the theme and bought it! Just wondering that is there a PSD file of the whole page design? In the psd folder I downloaded there is only psd files for the website elements (e.g. icons, buttons). There isn’t a layered PSD for the design or did I miss anything? Thanks!

Also, I can see that you are a very responsible author that have answered quite a lot questions. Just wondering that if there is a Q&A page that have listed all the common questions so that I don’t need to go through all the comments above? Thanks!

Hi there,

the items definitely work for me in IE9 , but I can’t check them on the iPad because I don’t own one, unfortunately. If it’s not working there, then it’s quite probably due to your introduces customizations. My best suggestion in that case would be to restore the original code, and introduce your changes one by one, while constantly checking everything on the iPad, to see where you did wrong.

To answer your other questions:

1) The pagination is possible; however, it’s not available out of the box, so some development work is required of you to make it, and that is most definitely a task for a developer.

The awesome crew behind sublvl. made this happen in their copy of the Yin & Yang theme, so you might want to check their site out: http://www.sublvl.com/

2) This is possible, but once again, some development work is required of you, since this is not available out of the box.

By the way, if you are not a developer yourself, but absolutely need to have the mentioned features available in your copy of the theme, then my best suggestion for you is to turn to the forums, or Envato’s freelance marketplace, http://freelanceswitch.com/ to find a reputable freelancer for the job.

Hi Onioneye,

Thanks again for the quick response. I will consider hiring a developer to do these extra work.

For the item detail display error, I found that when you go to www.antcomic.co.nz it all works fine, but when you go to antcomic.co.nz (without the www), the item detail doesn’t show when you click on the image. Would you be able to know why this is happening and how do I solve this problem? Thanks a lot!

Regards, Victor

onioneye

Hi Victor,

you are very much welcome. :)

As far as your question goes, this is happening because you have some kind of a redirection setup on your server, that blocks the execution of AJAX requests in WordPress, when you don’t use the “www” part in your domain. To find out more, please contact your host. They should be able to solve it.

Hi there,

nice to hear from you again. Glad I could be of some help to you the last time around. :)

As far as WordPress’ built-in text editor is concerned, please make sure you clear your browser’s cache, after modifying the style.css file and pressing the “Update File” button, because browsers often cache the CSS files, so you don’t get to see the modified version of the mention file straight away.

Hello,

A couple of questions for you :)

1/ How would I list the portfolio thumbnails in alphabetical order? 2/ Is there any way of making certain items ‘sticky’ so they rise to the top in their categories? 3/ Do you know of a simple way to search the portfolio items as the default wp search only targets the blog posts.

Thanks for any help,

Jon.

onioneye

Hi there again, Jon. :)

To answer your latest questions:

1) Not sure if the $wp_query object supports this out of the box, but I’m sure it could be done with some development work. The file to modify in this case is template-home.php file.

By the way, please check out the following link to see which ordering methods are available: Order and Orderby Parameters

2) As far as I know, sticky posts are still, to this very day, not available for custom post types in WordPress, and I’m not sure if WordPress developers have any plans in making them available.

For more information on this matter, please check out the following page: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7600314/wordpress-sticky-posts-with-custom-post-types

3) I suggest searching for a plugin that will let you do that, but if you don’t find one, then I’m afraid some development work would be required of you to make this happen.

Hi there,

you are very much welcome. I see that you managed to install the demo content, so congrats for that. :)

No worries about your issue. You are just trying to fetch the images found on my server, so the script can’t get the images’ width and height, causing it to throw the above-mentioned error. Once you start uploading your own images in there, by utilizing the user-friendly “Browse” buttons, found in the edit window of the portfolio items, you will have no such problems at all.

By the way, please make sure you read the documentation, that’s found in the main folder, as it contains all the instructions on how to install and completely setup the theme, including the images for your items.

glad you find the theme great! Thanks a bunch for purchasing it. I really appreciate it. :)

As far as the “clients” image goes, please make sure you are following the directions given in the theme’s documentation, on how to properly setup your homepage. Also, after clicking the “Upload” button in the “Client Logos” option, make sure you click the “Use This Image” button in the window that will appear, once you select/upload your image.
