Hi,

I just bought your theme and I love it. Easy to use and fast loading on the web. All I needed. Three questions though, is there an easy way to add a rotating Slider on the homepage? Any plan to make the theme retina display ready? Finally will it become responsive (design adapts to tablet and phone devices) in a future release? Many thanks.

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you love the theme so much! Thanks a lot for the purchase, and for the compliments about the theme itself. :)

To answer your questions:

1) I am not exactly sure what you meant by a “rotating” slider. A slider that auto-advances to the slides from one to another perhaps, or one that actually rotates each slide’s content?

2, 3) There aren’t any plans at the moment, unfortunately, but that can easily change sometimes in the near future; however, I can’t really promise anything at the moment, so if you absolutely need these features, I suggest you hire a freelancer.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hello there – love the theme, can’t wait to launch my site.

I have a couple of questions:

1) How can I remove the date field from the portfolio description?

2) I have made the Portfolio items scroll automatically in jquery.header.custom.js – and would also like them to fade smoothly between each image instead of sliding to the side. Can you tell me what code I need to change here:

       /*-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/
    /*    Portfolio Slider
    /*-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------*/

       function eQsliderInit() {

           if( jQuery().slides ) {
            $( "#slides" ).slides({
                preload: true,
                preloadImage: headJS.templateurl + "/images/layout/loading.gif",
                play: 2000,
                pause: 2500,
                slideEasing: 'easeOutSine',
                fadeEasing: 'easeOutSine',
                hoverPause: true,
                container: 'slides-container',
                pagination: true,
                generatePagination: true,
                fadeSpeed: 350,
                slideSpeed: 350,
                autoHeight: true,
                autoHeightSpeed: 350,
                effect: "slide",
                crossfade: true,
                randomize: false,
                start: 1
            });
        }

    }
:)

Hi there,

I am really glad you love the theme! Thanks for buying it. :)

To answer your questions:

1) You can remove the date with the following custom CSS code:

.item-categories + .item-metadata { display: none; }

The code can be included at the bottom of the style.css file, or via some plugin, made for the purpose of embedding custom CSS to the theme.

2) Changing the value of the “effect” parameter to “fade”, instead of “slide”, will do the job.

Hi there! Thanks again for your patience…if u will come in Italy i will be glad to offer an awesome glass of wine! :)

I have the last question: _why when I try to create the blog after I get this message:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/mhd-01/www.stefanomenconi.com/htdocs/wp-content/themes/yin_and_yang/index.php on line 41

Thanks again…. Best regards.

onioneye

Hi there,

you are very much welcome! Thank you for being so kind. I’ll make sure I stop by for a glass of wine, the next time I visit Italy. ;)

As far as your issue goes, you’ve been changing the code in the index.php file, so now you get a PHP syntax error. You should go back and make sure you get it straight. The error should provide enough details for you to easily do so, but if you still get stuck, then you can always revert to the original code, and make your modifications one by one, to see where and what you did wrong.

Hello,

I’ve purchased the Yin Yang theme however I’m receiving the following error message at the top of my portfolio posts.

Warning: Division by zero in /home/(my WP username)/public_html/wp-content/themes/yin_and_yang/function-includes/theme-functions.php on line 54

Can you help me get rid of this?

Thanks so much lauren

onioneye

Hi Lauren,

thanks for buying the theme! Hope you like it. :)

When it comes to your issue, please make sure you are properly setting up your portfolio images, by utilizing the “Browse” buttons, found next to the image fields. For further information, please refer to the documentation, that’s found in the main folder, and that contains all the instructions on how to install and completely setup the theme.

Also, make sure the “File URL ” button is selected, when you are setting the images in the media uploader.

Screenshot of the “File URL ” button: http://www.diigo.com/item/image/1mr8l/sjb1?size=o

Note: you only have to click the File URL button once, and it will be active for all other images set in the future, but you are going to have to go back and reselect the images that have already been set.

Hello, I would like to know if this theme can be displayed for iphone and ipad. Thank you!

Hi there,

The theme does not have a responsive layout, but should still be very much usable on mobile devices, like the iPad.

Have lots of fun working with Yin & Yang, if you end up buying it! :)

Hi Onioneye.

First, wow. I’ve been searching for hours – HOURS – for something beautilfully minimal and functional ae nd your Yin & Yang theme takes the cake.

As you can see I haven’t bought it, yet. I’m a blogger, and I’d love to have my blog posts function in the way portfolio posts work in this theme (plus, with pagination). I’ve read as far as I could in the comments and checked out sublvl.com’s website. (By the way, do you have central FAQ ’s since I noticed a lot of the same ?’s get asked a lot.)

Now being a complete newbie, I’d just like to ask you how long and how much you think it would cost me extra to have a freelancer modify the theme as it is now to what sublvl has done (minus the media player bar they have up near the contact tab). I’d really, really appreciate your advice here.

Lastly, if that doesn’t work out for me, could you please build something like this for bloggers whose wares are their words (as opposed to the artists’ photos, logos, etc.)? I noticed in a past comment you’re next project is a responsive theme. When will that be released? (Obviously, I’m extremely impressed with your work). I’ll be crossing my fingers that will be something I can use if Yin & Yang won’t work out for me, but I really hope that won’t be the case.

Thanks, Onioneye!

P.S. If I do get a freelancer to modify the theme to my desired specifications and then you update this theme afterwards, does that mean I’ll have to start from scratch again?

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks a lot for the amazing compliments about the theme! Appreciate them very much. :)

As far as pricing goes, and the time that takes to complete the project, it really depends on a lot of things, and varies from one individual to another. For example, I don’t usually go below $40 per hour, when it comes to custom projects, while some developers charge $100, or even more, depending on the complexity of the task in hand. Furthermore, it depends on the quality of the work the developer is providing, the country he/she is in, and numerous other things, so your best bet is to turn to ThemeForest’s forums, or some freelance marketplace, like Envato’s Freelance Switch http://freelanceswitch.com/ to see how much some freelancers would charge you for the job.

All this may come as a surprise to you because you are looking to by the theme for a real bargain, which is $45, but please have in mind that custom websites cost an average of several of thousands of dollars. Websites are becoming increasingly complicated to make, as there are so many things involved in making a quality site.

All of my themes so far have been mainly portfolio-based; not blog-based, and the next one is no different. I guess it should be released in a month or two.

When it comes to theme updates, you won’t have to worry about that, as long as your developer modifies the theme with a child theme.

Oh, and there is no FAQ section at the moment, unfortunately, but one could be made sometimes in the future, when I decide to build a dedicated forum for my themes.

That’s it. I hope this helps. Have lots of fun working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)

Hi David,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

The following custom CSS code should do the job of decreasing the space at both ends of the content box:

#content { padding-top: 30px; margin-bottom: 0; }

You can include the code at the bottom of the style.css file, or via some plugin, made for the purpose of embedding custom CSS to the theme.

Hi there,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

As far as your issue goes, your images are referencing the old domain, so you are unfortunately going to have to go back and reselect the images that have already been set, by using the “Browse” buttons.

Note: if your WordPress installation is still unchanged (the old one), you are just going to have to do the above, but in case it’s a completely new install, you are going to have to upload the images again to your WordPress.

Hi Onioneye,

It’s me again… I have two more questions for you.

1. My blog is a food and recipe bog, I would like to only use excerpts of the each blog, but it is very important (because of the content obviously) to have a picture with each excerpt. I have attempted to look in the CSS for any clues, but alas, I am just a novice hunting around in a haystack! :)

Do you have a solution to having a photo show up within each except?

2. Is there any way for me to change the heading only on the blog pages? My website is a multi-purpose site for me, and while I would like to have my designer portfolio continue to look the way it does, I would like to change the heading for the blog section, so it’ll be more fitting for a recipe blog.

Thank you so much! You have been a wealth of information and substantial help to me in designing my website and I really appreciate all of the customer service you provide.

Jess

onioneye

Hi Jess,

you are very much welcome! Glad you are so satisfied with the customer service I provide. :)

To answer your latest questions:

1) WordPress doesn’t allow media like images in the excerpts, so some development work is required of you, if you want to make this functional in your copy of the theme, and that is most definitely a task for a developer.

2) Once again, this is possible, but it would require some development work, so my best suggestion is to turn to the forums, or Envato’s freelance marketplace, http://freelanceswitch.com/ to find a freelancer for the job.

Hint: the main files to modify are index.php and header.php.

Hi Onioneye, Hope you are fine :) Its me back, I bought this theme long time ago..It works great, thank you again for this beautiful theme, your time and effort.. I have couple of questions:

I think the navigation from the contact page is quite confusing. I tried to press the “back” button on my browser to get back to the home page a few times and I ended up at my browser page. How can I fix this please?

2.The section at the right hand side under portfolio. >> CATEGORIES -> Is that possible to make them as a link and how can I delete the date please?

oh yes, I would love to share a good news as well..I am blessed with a baby girl 25 days ago…yahooo.. Thanks again :)

onioneye

WooHoo! I’m so, so glad to hear the good news! Congratulations on your baby girl. :smitten: As far I’m concerned, I’m doing great; especially when my day is bettered with such news. :)

To answer your latest questions:

1) If you are referring to the drop-down tab, found in the top-right corner of the site, then there is nothing to worry about. Drop-down tabs are never supposed to work with the browser’s back button because they are just that—drop-down tabs.

As a reassurance, you are the first person out of more than 3850 purchasers who mentioned being confused about something like this.

2) This is possible, but please be aware that it would take some custom development work to achieve it, which could potentially be costly, depending on what exactly you were intending to do with those links. Anyway, it is most definitely a task for a developer.

As far as the date goes, you can remove it with the following custom CSS code:

.item-categories + .item-metadata { display: none; }

The code can be included at the bottom of the style.css file, or via some plugin, made for the purpose of embedding custom CSS to the theme.

Hope this helps! I wish you all the happiness in the world with your new-born baby! :)

Thank you so much Onioneye for your warm wishes…and quick reply..I understand, sometimes customer ask such things, just wanted to confirm…

I have plan to purchase this theme for the next customer as well…Is it possible to use this template as a e-commerce website ? once again , thank you for a nice and wonderful theme..:)

onioneye

You are very much welcome. :)

As far as your latest question goes, it is definitely possible to use the theme as an e-commerce site, but if you are planning to utilize some of the excellent WordPress plugins to achieve this, then I can not guarantee they will work out of the box for you. As far as I know, using a plugin of this complexity requires code modification, to make it blend in with the theme, not only by design, but by functionality as well, so some extra development work might be required of you to make everything behave well.

Hello,

I am considering buying this theme but if it possible to set the home page as the blog 2 or 3 layout instead of it being the portfolio page? I love the clean design of the blog layout and would like to use the theme for blogging instead of showcasing.

Thank you! :)

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for taking an interest in the theme!

As far as your question goes, you can set any page as your homepage, so no worries about that. In fact, most/all WordPress themes default to the blog page after the installation of the theme itself, so you won’t need to change any setting at all, regarding this.

Enjoy working with the Yin & Yang theme, if you end up buying it! :)

Hi! When I wanted to show a friend my redesigned homepage on his computer, nothing happened when we clicked at the portfolio items. Works just great on my own computer. We did’nt look into it any further, but I wonder if there are some well known settings that I should inform my visitors about? Could his browser be set to block popups, or what else could cause that problem? Great theme btw, and very easy to work with!

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme great and easy to work with! Thanks a lot for the purchase. :)

As far as your issue goes, the reason behind the items’ inability to load on your friend’s computer is probably due to the fact that you logged in your WordPress admin panel, and then logged out in the meantime. WordPress had you “marked” as admin, when you were logged in, and viewing your site at the same time. Now, as soon as you logged out, you lost that status, and with it, you lost the permissions to execute AJAX requests (i.e. load items) as well, in the tabs where your site was active, because WordPress couldn’t recognize you as admin anymore, so the security system kicked in, and blocked you from executing any further AJAX requests.

Having said all that, you need to open you site in a new tab, if you log out from your WordPress admin panel, in the meantime. That’s why your items weren’t loading at times. However, if you still continue experiencing the same issue, please feel free to share the link to your site with me here, by replying to this post (there is a “Reply” button at the start of this thread), and I will inspect things further.

Sincerely,

Hi Onioneye,

I didn’t see an option to reply to your reply…I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time answer my questions and for building good relationships with your customers. That alone is enough to really trust your work and purchase.

I’m in the Philippines right now so I’ll look for a developer here first. You’ll hear from me again when I do find that qualified developer and finally purchase this theme.

Thank you and best wishes, Kyle

I wish you the best of luck in finding a skillful developer for the job. Hope you are going to be able to find someone who does good work at reasonable prices.

By the way, you can reply to a thread, by clicking the “Reply” button, found at the start of a given thread. Not the most intuitive of ways, but I’m hoping ThemeForest’s developers will change that soon.

Looking forward to hearing from you more in the future,

Probably a super obvious question, but where can I edit the “send” button to alter yellow color in favor of the sites other alt color red? Or conversely, mock the portfolio categories button style?

Thanks in advance!

onioneye

Hi there,

the “Send” button can be modified under the “buttons” subsection of the “Forms” section, found in the style.css file. The CSS styles for the category buttons, on the other hand, are found in the “Home Template” section of the same file.

Good luck! :)

Hi there!

I have a question, about the links to the individual projects. We want to have it so that there is a unique url for each of the projects, rather than have the thumbnails dropdown within the homepage. Id this possible?

Also, can Pinterest be incorporated for each slide?

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for buying the theme! Appreciate it. :)

To answer your questions:

1) I take it that you want to disable AJAX (dynamic loading of the items on the same page), and have the items open in an old-fashioned manner, on different pages, with unique URLs. If I understood you right, then that can easily be done by removing the following piece of code from the jquery.quicksand.init.js, and the jquery.header.custom.js files:

$( ".project-link" ).click( eQgetProjectViaAjax );

2) Adding the Pinterest button for each item is possible, but since it is not available out of the box, some development work is required of you, and that is most definitely a task for a developer.

By the way, in case you end up disabling AJAX , then I suggest looking for a plugin, that will help you easily embed sharing buttons like the Pinterest one.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

That’s great, yes. The only other question on this is, if it is loading on separate pages, can the filter navigation be moved to stay above the project? Or does it basically just have the same thing, where there’s a close button on the top right of the project page? Just wondering before I get in too deep with all of it.

onioneye

Everything is basically the same, so no worries about that. Just delete the two lines of code from the mentioned files, to test it out, and if you don’t like it, you can always restore the original code. This should take you only minutes, if not seconds, to do.

Default-user

It’s working perfectly! Just one thing though, the arrow navigation in the individual projects still have it where it opens in whatever project link you are in. Is there a way to disable the ajax (?) for the forward and back arrows?

onioneye

Sure thing! You just need to remove the following line of code, that appears two times, in the jquery.header.custom.js file:

$( ".prev-portfolio-post, .next-portfolio-post" ).click( eQgetProjectViaAjax );

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Default-user

I deleted that code the two times from the jquery.header.custom.js, but for some reason now when the forward or back arrow is clicked, it doesn’t actually bring you to the next project… it just gets stuck. Any ideas? Thank you again :)

onioneye

Ah, excuse me. Please go into the single-portfolio.php file, and replace the following code:

<?php if ( stristr( $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'], "msie 8" ) ) { ?>

with:

<?php if ( true ) { ?>

That should do it.

Oh no! I’m like the nightmare that keeps coming back! Sooo, we noticed one thing with the arrow navigation now though, when the projects are filtered, rather than going to the next project within that filter category it just advances to the next or prev project on the “all” category. Is there a fix for that by chance? ;) Really Reallly really have appreciated your help on all of this.

onioneye

I am honestly sorry, but this is how the theme was intended to work without AJAX (it even works like that in IE8 , where the AJAX feature is disabled). For any further desired customization to the theme, you would have to consult a developer, or make the changes yourself because I can not provide anymore custom code, I’m afraid, but I can give you a hint in this case. The file you would have to modify is called jquery.quicksand.init.js (the code should go in the “Callback” section).

I am really sorry I couldn’t be of more help, regarding the matter. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if I can assist you with anything else. Thank you for your understanding. :)

Hello,

Your theme is great, thanks for it!

One question, how can I do in the portfolio that when I open it, instead of displaying all that is in the portfolio it show one of the categories by default?

Thanks

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme great! Thanks for buying it. :)

As far as your desired modification goes, in all honestly, I am entirely unsure if quicksand, a plugin used for filtering the items, supports this, but if it in any case does, I would imagine you would have to modify the template-home.php, jquery.quicksand.init.js, and possibly some CSS in the style.css file.

Please check out the quicksand’s documentation, and utilize google as much as you can, to find out if this is possible, or not, out of the box.

You can reduce the mentioned space with the following custom CSS code:

The code can be included at the bottom of the style.css file, or via some plugin, made for the purpose of embedding custom CSS to the theme.

You can find the mentioned text in the theme-functions.php file (look for the “eq_the_custom_logo” function).

Hey !

Thanks for the great theme!

Two questions!

1. How can i change body text colour and headings?

2. Can i disable all widgets?

onioneye

Hi there,

glad you find the theme great! Thanks for buying it. :)

To answer your questions:

1) You can change the color of the body text, and that of headings, by changing the “color” properties under the “Typography” and “Headings” sections of the main style sheet (style.css). However, to change every single text color in the site, including the specific areas, like the widget area, you would have to go through the whole style sheet and change the mentioned properties, but that should be really easy for anyone, who has even the most basic knowledge of CSS .

2) Sure thing. You have an option, found under the Appearance -> Theme Options tab of your WordPress admin panel, that lets you easily disable the widget area.

Sincerely,

OnionEye
