Hi, I’m thinking to purchase your theme. But I have some questions. Is it possible to install additional plugin for shortcodes? Because as far as I can see in the demo, there’s only a few shortcodes available for this theme.

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for taking an interest in the theme!

A rule of thumb is to always leave as much as shortcodes to plugins, instead of embedding them in the theme’s code, in order to retain the shortcodes, once you decide to switch themes. If done otherwise, the shortcodes would be broken wherever you embedded them, meaning that you would have to go back and delete all of their instances manually, which can be a tedious job. That’s why the current trend of embedding hundreds of shortcodes to themes’ code on ThemeForest should be abolished.

Having said that, the awesome crew behind ThemeZilla put the most used shortcodes in a plugin, and made it available here for use in every theme: http://www.themezilla.com/plugins/zillashortcodes/

In case you don’t find the plugin fitting to your needs, there are numerous others available on the web, for the same purpose, so I suggest you look them up.

Have fun working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Greetings,

One more pre-sale question. You’ve done a nice job with how photos are presented (cool effect on mouseover on the portfolio thumbs, for instance). Wondering how hard it would be to add a shadowbox feature to clicked images in posts (e.g., http://onioneyethemes.com/yin-and-yang/2011/08/demo-post-1-4/) which now just goes to the enlarged version.

Thanks!

Chuck

onioneye

Hi Chuck,

thank you for the compliment about the theme! :)

As far as your latest question goes, most lightbox plugins, like the Fancybox plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/fancybox-plus/) should work without any problems with the images posted in the blog, so I suggest you go for them.

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hi, Mine is a pre-sales question, I hope it is ok to enter it here on not on the support website. I just want to know how the theme works with portable devices. I see it is not ‘responsive’. For some reason the live preview will not load on my ipad so I have not been able to see how it works. I know you have other responsive themes, but I don’t find their layout as suitable as this one. Can you tell me anything further about how the theme handles tablets/phones?? Thanks.

onioneye

Hi there,

thanks for taking an interest in the Yin & Yang theme!

The theme itself does not have a responsive layout, but should still be very much usable on mobile devices. Having said that, it should actually work perfectly on an iPad, so I suggest you try viewing the demo site again.

My honest advice for you is to actually question why you are keen on a responsive website in the first place; just because it is trendy, or because your site already gets, or is expecting to get a lot of traffic from mobile devices?

Responsive is cool and dandy alright, but it’s far from a perfect solution for delivering content on mobile devices, and on top of that, I met a lot of people who want it, just because it’s cool, without actually needing it.

Having said all that, I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide to do, and a lot of fun with the theme, if you end up purchasing it! :)

Sincerely,

OnionEye

Hello there, i have a question but in your online support page it is required to purchase first in order to submit a ticket. So before i buy, i would like to ask if i can:

  • Turn off the + button and all of its content
  • Turn off the contact drop menu and alternatively make a contact page inside the main content area
  • Remove the Clients area

I understand these three questions might sound a little bit silly, but since I don’t know much of coding, I need to know if it is possible with a little bit of tweaking.

I hope i can have an answer here, thank you in advance for your question

P.S Of course, the theme is more than awesome

    Sincerely, b

    Hi there,

glad you find the theme awesome! thanks for taking an interest in it.

    Regarding your questions:

    1) Sure thing. You have an option for that, in the Theme Options panel, that lets you easily disable the footer widgets area.

    2) That’s easy. Just don’t select the drop-down page under the options panel, and you should be fine.

    3) Same as my previous answer.

All in all, everything you need is available out of the box, so no custom coding is required of you, if you end up purchasing the theme! :)

    Sincerely,

    OnionEye

    Hi,

Could i have multiple portfolios with this theme, each with it’s own set of filters. All on different pages.

    EG:
    Portfolio: Web,
    Filter: 2009, 2010, 2011

    Portfolio: Print
    Filter: Magazine, Business cards, etc…

    Hi there,

thanks for taking an interest in the theme!

Unfortunately, the features you mention are not supported by default, so some development work would be required of you to make them happen, which is most definitely a task for an experienced developer.

Have fun working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)

    Hello,

Hi! im really pleased with your theme! I’m just wondering.. im trying to create a mobile application of my website so it will work on mobile devices.

To do this im using the wordpress plugin: Wiziapp However this app only finds the posts and categories located under “posts” tab in wordpress.

So what im trying to do is to get the portfolio posts / categories onto my app.

Is there a way to “call” these like normal posts would be called in page.php?

Hi, I like very much the portfolio. is it possible to buy it as a plugin? Thanks

    onioneye

    Hi there,

glad you like the portfolio of the Yin & Yang theme; however, it is not available as a plugin, but only as a WordPress theme, so you would have to buy the theme if you wanted to have the portfolio.

I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide to do! :)

Is it possible to easily implement the use of arrow keys to navigate between portfolio posts?

I am trying to hide the “DATE” on the single portfolio posts. I read through other comments and tried adding the following to my style.css, although it did not work. Please help, thanks…

I have managed to do it my self and works great. I have saved over $200 (That was the price to do it on WerkPress). Here is the step by step instructions how you can doi it. Maybe this can be implement into the next update as an addon feature. :D So here is the link for the instruction http://onioneye.ticksy.com/ticket/30845

Oh wow! Thank you so, so much for sharing the solution with me, and all the rest of the people who bought the Yin & Yang theme! Appreciate it. :)

Hi there! I love the look and feel of this theme. Very well done.

I am looking for a new theme to update our current site, but it needs to be a dark theme. I was curious if your backend allowed for those color/background/font options or if it was something I would need to modify in the actual code. I noticed several different background options in the demo but no any color options.

Thanks for any info you can give.

    onioneye

    Hi there,

glad you love the theme! Thanks for taking an interest in it. :)

As far as your question goes, you can upload your own backgrounds in the Theme Options panel, but there are no built-in color, or font options, so you would have to customize the theme’s CSS in the main stylesheet to achieve what you are after.

Have fun working with the theme, if you end up buying it!

    Sincerely,

    OnionEye

    Hello!

I’ve been using your theme since August now and love it. As of a week ago, I came across an unexpected problem – without altering any of the css my tags for projects stopped working. Now when I click on a tag, “typography” for example, it does nothing. I can’t figure out the source of the problem, hopefully you can help! Thank you!

Hello! Just have a quick pre-sales question. Is it possible to have the blog the first thing viewers see when they visit my page if I use this theme? Also, could I have two blogs (same theme, just two different authors) within the same domain with this theme? Thanks so much in advance!

    onioneye

    Hi there,

thanks for taking an interest in the theme!

    Regarding your questions:

    1) The blog will be on the homepage by default, so no worries about that.

    2) You can separate your blog posts into two categories, and then display those categories in the menu, in order to show separate pages for them. From that point on, one author can use the first category for her/his posts, and the other one the second category.

Enjoy working with the theme, if you end up buying it! :)

Thank you for making such a clean functional Theme. I have a Quick pre-sales question regarding layout.

On the Portfolio Page gallery showing the item, how customizable is this? i am looking to put the the text that is currently under the picture moved to the right. I also dont need the “widget” type items on the right. can they be removed?

    Thanks and appreciate your response

    onioneye

    Hi there,

you are very much welcome. Thank you for taking an interest in the theme!

As far as your questions go, it is certainly possible to achieve what you are after, but some development work would be required of you, since the things you mention are not available out of the box. I would imagine this would take a developer under a half an hour or so to complete.

Hint: the files that need to be modified are called theme-functions.php and style.css.

By the way, if you are not a developer yourself, but absolutely need to have the mentioned feature available in your copy of the theme, then my best suggestion for you is to turn to Werkpress, the WordPress customization shop, http://werkpress.com/, so they can customize the theme for you quickly and on the cheap as well, if you are still willing to buy the theme, of course.

I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide to do! :)

This theme looked great in the preview, but to be honest, it lacks some functionality which lets it down a bit. I have contacted support regarding most of these matters but they couldn’t directly help.

One of the main letdowns is the fact that you can’t create a separate navigation tab for the portfolios so that people can just click your main header navigation and go to a particular portfolio page. the next issue is that the portfolio listings don’t appear to have any functionality to add individual SEO to these pages, which prevents the site from ranking well. I tried SEO plugins but none work with this theme. There is no pagination for the homepage portfolio, so if you have 300 items in your portfolio it will keep scrolling down one long page, and these can’t be randomised in the theme or limited to say 20 random items. I was very keen to use this theme but once I installed it and started I found unfortunately it needs some work so I have to count my losses and use another theme. Hopefully the developers review some of these issues mentioned in a future upgrade of the Yin and Yang theme.

    onioneye

    Hi there,

thank you for your purchase, and for the feedback. Appreciate it very much.

I am really sorry to hear Yin & Yang doesn’t suit your needs. Retina support and responsiveness should be coming as an update in the following month or two, but I can not promise that the features you mention will be implemented in the future.

Once again, I am sorry you feel disappointed about the theme. I wish you the best of luck in finding one that is perfect for you.

    Sincerely,

    OnionEye
