Hi.. I am not able to integrate disqus. I followed the instructions from the documentation page and added my shortname “dockphptech” but it doesn’t load up…. is there anything else I need to do?

P.S. I am quite new to tumblr and disqus!!

Can you give me a link to your tumblr-blog? (you can send it to my email on my profile if you want).

Default-user

hey.. sorry I just saw your reply.. I was able to figure it out.. the disqus code was inside {block:PermalinkPagination} and I was testing with just one post…

thomv

Oh, haha! Comments are always on single pages indeed. :P

Hey quick question before diving it too deep. Is there a simple way to add a background image?

Default-user

Ah never mind I found it. But maybe you could help me with a different question would it be possible to have the avatar link, link to a different html page not the Tumblr? Thanks for the theme really nice and clean!

thomv

I’m glad to hear you got the first question sorted already. Regarding your second question; I don’t think it would be good for the user experience to let the avatar link to a completely different website or page. Hence the fact there’s no option implemented. Though, here’s how to change the url:
1. click “Edit HTML”
2. scroll to line 1439 (approx.)
3. find <a class=”portrait” href=”/”>
4. change the href value to whatever you would like the page to link to (for an external page that’s href=”http://yoursite.com”, for an internal page that’s href=”/about”)

Hope this helps. :)

Thank you so much! For this site I’m only using the Tumblr for one page of the site. Want an easy way to return to the main page. Thanks!!

Purchased, but can’t seem to install it – can you email me across the who html code so I can paste into my Tumblr to have the theme up and running?

thomv

I see you got it running already. Always check out the documentation first. There is a very detailed description there explaining how to install a theme (just a couple steps). ;)

All OK.

Sorted and up – site is GadgetXpert.co.uk – but it still says jon doe as the name.

thomv

I see you got it running already. Pretty much anything you would like to change in the theme can be easily done through the Customization Panel. Go to www.tumblr.com/customize/YOURTHEME and take a look in the sidebar. To change the name, you can change the Name-input.

Hope this helps! ;)

All OK now.

Awesome theme!

Just have one more question; how come bold letters on posts aren’t going bold on Zen?

thomv

What font are you using? If you have replaced the default font with a different one from Google Fonts, then make sure you set it up correctly. But again, this is already covered in the documentation.

Should you have any further questions feel free to send me an email through my profile.

Hello! Great theme :). I’ve installed it and am slowly getting the hang of all the customizations, but am running into a couple questions/problems. Any image or gif that I post that has a clear background is coming through with a medium grey background. Is that something I need to customize or is that a bug?

Also—is there a way to decrease the width of the posts so they aren’t as wide?

Thanks!

Scratch that. I figured out that the clear background has to do with the photoset background, so I fixed that. Still curious about the page width though – thanks!

thomv

I will update the theme to better support transparent images. Thanks for the heads up!

Changing the page-width on the other hand is easier said than done. In order to do this you will have to change a couple lines of CSS. Send me an email through my profile (form is at the bottom right) so I can help you out with this.

Thanks :)

Half of the description seems to he disappearing off the side of the page in Internet explorer 8.

Thanks for the heads up! Update will arrive soon!

Hi, nice theme, I’ve been using it for a while. I now have an issue with the lightbox for images, it no longer works.. I receive this error (I didn’t edit the file, just hosted on my server) http://cl.ly/image/2G3W37010h1i

Could you help me? My blog is at http://blog.jasonfweb.com

thomv

Ah, right. Since you removed the menu from the theme, now JavaScript throws an error as it’s unable to find it.

To fix it, instead of using zentheme.min.js I would recommend using the non-minified zentheme.js when you’re doing heavy customizing like you do (you’ll find it in the theme assets). Then remove the two functions from about line 18 to about line 56 in this file and upload the file like you did before. Now everything should work just fine. :)

Hope this helps,
Thom

Default-user

Thanks man! I also had to remove the first function, as I was also hiding the menu.. I was using display:none at first, so that’s why it worked before, but it was conflicting with the search box I added at the bottom!

thomv

Glad to see it’s fixed so quickly!

On a sidenote: I see you’re using an older version of zentheme.js. Don’t forget to update your theme-files every now and then. ;)

Hi,

I love your theme!

I’m new to tumblr and I would like to know how to get full size images in Zen, as they appear on your demo page.

When I download an image in Tumblr, it get shrunken to 500px.

I’ve search for an answer online and I’ve tried many suggestions, but none worked so far.

How do you do it?

Thank You!

thomv

Thanks for the email, you got a reply. ;)

Great theme! Thanks for providing such clear and thorough instructions. Made installing it a breeze.

I love the way the avatar and description are centered above the posts in smaller browsers and in the customizing preview. Any plans to make that an option for all resolutions? Would love to have that as the standard look and also the ability to add outside links to the navigation and not just pages.

Thanks again for the great theme!

thomv

Sounds like a decent plan. I’ll add an option to do this with the next update.

Regarding the external links in the menu; You can put external links in the menu already! This is built in with Tumblr. Step by step:
1. click Add a page in the customization panel
2. select Redirect from the menu (default is “Standard Layout”)
3. Now configure your external page as needed. Give a URL, the url to redirect to and select the option to put a link in the menu on your blog

Hope this is helpful,
Thom

That would be awesome, thank you!

And thanks for those steps—can’t believe I overlooked that.

Hey you have been very helpful in the past. I have two questions.

Is there an easy way to make the video posts smaller width wise and maintain center alignment.

Is it possible to turn this theme into a two column theme? Or would that be a radical change the coding ???

Thanks in advance!

thomv

Videos are currently made responsive (aka. given a 100% width) using FluidVids.js. In order to make videos smaller width-wise you would have to alter the JavaScript and CSS of this theme. Though, I’ll add an option for disabling responsive videos with the next update. In case you need it now, sent me an email through my profile and I’ll walk you through.

The guess for your second question is indeed right. Making this theme a two column theme requires some editing in the CSS and most likely also in the HTML markup of the theme itself. The changes are radical and would be enough to make an entirely new theme on its own. :P

thomv Thank you again for always giving timely responses!!

I have a new question. Would it be relatively easy to add a custom html header to the blog main page but not have it appear when you click into post pages?

thomv

No problem, and sure. Look up those kind of things in Tumblr’s Theme Docs here! I think you’ll end up using something like {block:IndexPage}header{/block:IndexPage}

Default-user

Yet again you have come to the rescue. Thank you much!

thomv

No problem. I’m always happy to help. :)

Hi, I’m rather new to this so just a quick question, apologies if I’ve missed something obvious. Can I have an infinite scrolling function without the little page numbers at the bottom? Cheers

thomv

I think it’s possible yes, but it’s not integrated with this theme.

Hi, I have the avatar and little blurb on top of the posts on my ipad but they slide to a left column on my wider laptop screen.

is it possible in someway to keep the avatar always at the top?

thomv

That’ll be added with the next update. Several more people mentioned it. :)

Interested in buying this. Is there a way to, instead of using the avatar associated with your Tumblr account, use a custom logo?

thomv

Since it’s not a default option you will have to edit the HTML of this theme yourself.

Default-user

Thanks for your response. I tried messing around with the html and couldn’t get that to work. Is this the area that I would edit?

author .portrait img { height: {select:Avatar Size}; width: {select:Avatar Size}; float: right; display: block; background: #eee; }

-webkit-border-radius: 100%;
   -moz-border-radius: 100%;
        border-radius: 100%;
-webkit-transition: opacity .1s ease-out;
   -moz-transition: opacity .1s ease-out;
     -o-transition: opacity .1s ease-out;
        transition: opacity .1s ease-out;

I hosted the image and was using a simple code.

thomv

I would advice against editing the theme code itself. If I’m right you can simply hide the avatar in the Customization Panel. Then just insert an <img src="img-url" /> tag in the HTML where you want the logo to appear. ;)

It’s a very nice theme! I’m interesting in your theme. But I have a bit question. Is there a way to always appear sidebar / show author block on the top for all devices?

thomv

Yes, there is. You’ll find the option in the theme’s customization panel after installation.

Hi I have a new question. I have looked into it a bit through google searches. No answer as of yet. Wondering if you can help. I am looking to change the text on the Ask page. I am trying to not use that page for question but rather for Story submissions. So I would love the “Ask” Button to say. “Share” and then after you click it rather than the text “Your question has been received.” It to either just say Thank you or say something like Thank you for sharing your story. Any help would be much appreciated.

Default-user

Sorry I see now I was just looking for the Submit page…. That is the page I should have been using no reason to get crazy customizing the Ask page. Thanks for taking a look if you read this far.

Dear Thom,

Enjoying the Zen theme very much!

I have switched on Google fonts, and am using “Gentium Book Basic” for the body text and headings.

However, with specially-created pages the Google font is not working for the body text. It defaults to a sans.

Any ideas?

Best,

Mark

It’s OK, I figured it out!

I had some old styling code in the HTML on those pages.

However, I have another question… There seems to be a bit of a jerky effect when you scroll past photo sets. This happens on all my iOS devices. Can anything be done about this?

Thanks,

Mark

thomv

I can’t reproduce that issue, I’ll see if I can find anything on it.

Thank you!

I am very impressed by the typography in this theme, and the options you have built in to manage it.

Best wishes,

Mark
