    Need somebody with iphone/ipad to help me test something

    Apparently on my new theme, the footer sticks to the middle of the page when the user scrolls down.

    I found a fix online but I have no way to test it since I don’t have an iphone or ipad. Could somebody take a look for me?

    best way to test for images?

    I got a slider working in my theme. I decided to widgetize it for the sidebar. Got that working fine. I made text boxes for the input for the image url, image link, text, and description. all is working fine. I only have three images out of the 4 populated so when the slider gets to the fourth one, it just shows a blank image. I tried testing for that image in the output in the widget code but I either got an error or it just didn’t work.

    What is the best way to test for the 4th image so that if it is blank, it will not output the list element with the blank image? I tried using “if” statements. I was thinking that a switch would work better? But it’s bedtime so I thought I would ask before turning in and then work on it in the morning.

    Thanks.

    test for wp_nav_menu

    I am working on a theme and things are going good. Just trying to code for exceptions. When I activate my theme, the navigation and content area looks bad. Once the primary menu is created, things look great. So I am trying to code for the absence of the menu. I tried this

    if(wp_nav_menu('primary')){
       nav menu here
    } else {
       nav menu here
    }

    This just ended up setting the same menu twice. one on top of the other even though no nav menu was selected. Is there a standard test for this?

    How do you test multiple WordPress versions?

    Authors, how do you do your testing for multiple WP versions? When I started selling, There was only WP 3 .0, now it’s WP 3 .1.2!

    How do you setup your environment to test for all these versions? I’m wondering because the different versions may have differences in the database structure so there’ll be multiple database instances, and I’ll need to copy over all the content to each WP version’s database.

    Help me test my hosting speed

    I’ve recently got my first real hosting, and I’d like to test its speed from around the world. I’m in the EU, but my target audience is in USA or western EU. The server is in the USA . I’m getting a normal speed to me (20mbit down 3mbit up while my connection is 30/6). Please

    run this speedtest,

    then post a reply like this:

    Your location (country or area), result speed, your connection’s max speed.

    I don’t know if it’s ok to post the hosting’s name, anyway I’m not here to promote anything :)

    Can I trial test a theme before I purchase it?

    I recently purchased my first theme. I am a newbe. I was told by a designer I hired that the vertical pixels of the slider could be adjusted without a problem. Turns out, that wasn’t the case. I’d like to make sure the theme is going to work for me before I purchase. I hope there is a way to do that. I need a new theme by tomorrow morning.

    Thanks!

    How can I test Envato marketplace API purchase verify without a valid purchase code?

    I’m building a registration page for my support site that requires the user to use a valid purchase code before I let them register for my site. It uses this script from Github…

    https://github.com/PriyeshPatel/Envato-Marketplace-Purchase-Verifier

    Is there a good way to test it as I don’t yet have any purchases and therefore purchase codes.

    Looking to test mobile website

    Hi!

    I’m working on a responsive design for a client. The code is ready so I can resize my browser in different sizes, the design respond accordingly.

    Now, I added some code that detects the device. I do this so that when it’s for example an iPad, the top navigation menu turns into a select menu instead of an UL listing.

    Now due to financial issues of building my house I can’t afford an iPhone, iPad or other mobile devices, so I’m looking for a tool that can simulate a mobile device.

    I’ve tried the “Switch user agent” plugin in Firefox, but it doesn’t work very well. Same thing in the build in “feature” in Chrome.

    Anyone knows such a tool? Oh yeah, I’m working on OS X Lion, so if it could be an app?

    Thanks!

    test your php/wordpress skills

    I am working on a theme right now and I wanted to make a function that I could re use and keep my front end files cleaner. So instead of putting a bunch of php in the sidebar for my categories, I made some functions in the functions.php file. This is the code I was working with

    $list = wp_list_categories('echo=0&show_count=1&child_of=6&title_li=');
    $list = str_replace('(', '<span class="number">', $list);
    $list = str_replace(')', '<span class="number">', $list);
    echo $list; ?>
    </span></span>

    The above code did exactly what I wanted. It displayed the posts in the category that are the child of a parent category I set up. Works great. The problem occurred when I moved the code into the functions.php file and turned it into a function. Instead of doing child_of=6 as one of the parameters, I did child_of=$categoryid. I did this because I wanted to be able to pass the category id from the function call in the sidebar.php. It made sense to do that. Now, when I tested the code, it failed. Instead of listing the category posts, it said “No Categories”

    So I then got the idea to make an array of the parameters and then pass that array into the wp_list_categories() like so…

    function themebuddies_categories($categoryid){
     $args = array(
                    'echo' => 0,
                    'show_count' => 1,
                    'child_of' => $categoryid,
                    'title_li' => ''
                );
                $list = wp_list_categories($args);
                $list = str_replace('(', '<span class="number">', $list);
                $list = str_replace(')', '<span class="number">', $list);
                echo $list;
    }
    </span></span>

    Now this version of the code does work. Still passing the category id by a variable from the function call. So here is the big test question

    WHY ?, why does this work?

    Why by passing the array in a variable does it work when you really are kind of doing the same thing. I am still passing a number to the function for the category id. Why does it work inside the array but not outside in the stand alone version of the code? I did an echo test to see if the $categoryid variable was holding the correct category id and it was. It did echo out 6. So that should work…Right? What am I missing?

    Theme Test Site in WPMU?

    Anyone have any insight on how to setup a theme test site for buyers similar to:

    http://test.woothemes.com

    I know its running WPMU with some cron jobs, the thing thats hanging me up is the DB resets with the crons. How would you reset just that users changes after a certain period of time, without affecting the standard demo content.

    best way to test a WP theme on live server while still having old html site live?

    hi – what’s your favorite way to test-drive a site on a live server, before making it the main production site?

    searching the internet I’ve found a few solutions; they’re all a bit of a hassle:

    a) install into yoursite.com/blog temporarily, then move it to root or redirect once done

    b) test on wampp or instantwp on localserver

    c) use wp 3.4 test theme/live preview option

    Main thing is, I’m converting my html sites to wp sites, so I want to be able to still show viewers the site.com/index.html by default, but also be able to look at the WP site as I work on it, though I can’t just use site.com/index.php . And addon domains/installing into nonroot subdirectory, then having to copy all files to root w/ftp, or phpmyadmin/plugin search and rename sql fields is a big hassle.

    so what would you do, if you need to have a index.html site show, while working on live server with wp theme being created, test site, while working on it?

    thanks..
