About Michael FitchettWhen I was young about ten our parents had purchased my older brother his first electronic piano. Our father had shown us how to play a few songs he had known. More importantly he taught us how to play by ear because no one in our house hold knew how to read music. I remember always sneaking into my brother’s room to play his piano when he was away.
As I my skills progressed I began using them to win girls hearts over. Ok maybe not really, but I tried .
It was nearing Christmas holiday and I knew what I wanted, my own electronic piano! I begged my pops for one and guess what Santa came through! It was then I started composing my own songs using the built in instruments and recording functionality. Fast forwarding a bit, a lot of years and life later I am now about to get married, I thought hey what if I write our own wedding song to be played at the wedding. So I purchased a fully weighted midi controller and composed my first song using the computer and DAW that never got played because the audio guy didn’t have an iPod jack .
I picked up Propellerhead’s Reason and started experimenting and composed a lot of music. Most of which I did not deem worthy of the public’s ears. I remember browsing through YouTube and coming across similar compositions with more of a cinematic presence to them. It was then I found out the true potential of a good DAW and expensive instrument libraries. About $5,000 later and a lot of loving composing music here I am. Why? Well my wife said I am not allowed to buy any more instrument libraries until I have made back what I have spent. Oddly enough my professional background is in Web Development is has been for over 12 years now. One day I want to be a full time music composer.
