Hello,

My client is having an issue with the Visual Composer / WP Bakery Plugin. For some reason, the edit page does not load any data because of the two extensions put in place for the Builder. If we remove these extensions, a lot of items break on the site.

Please point us in the right direction. They do not have the purchase code in the theme due to their previous developer not providing the information. Do they need to purchase the theme in order to move forward?

Thanks

Hi,

First I would recommend making sure the theme and bundled plugins are all up to date – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs-category/updates/ The Total theme doesn’t make alterations to the builder plugin so if the issue happens due to 3rd party extensions you will need to contact the developers of these extensions so they can help you out.

If you open up your browser console you should see if there are any errors in the page for easier troubleshooting. You should also enable error logs on the server and check the error logs incase the error is simply server related (low memory or execution time).

If you wish to purchase a license of the theme for added help with the theme that would be ideal (on sale right now). However, if the issues are caused by extensions and not the theme itself it would be something outside the scope of the theme. We can only provide support for theme related issues or help with using theme hooks/filters or issues with the bundled plugins (wp bakery, templatera and slider revolution).

Hi AJ,

Thank you for your response. I am going to recommend the client create and purchase the theme. Templatera, Composium and Ultimate Add-Ons for Visual Composer is causing this ongoing issue. We just cant make any edits anywhere.

Thanks, Dylan

If you are the one that will want the support though I do recommend purchasing it on this account though and charging the client for the cost. The theme is on sale right now for $39 instead of $59 so good time to pick up a license ;/)

Hi, i’m having some trouble to desactive the license to use in another site.

If you log in here – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/support/ – you should be able to access all your licenses to de-activate them as needed.

- AJ

I’ve desactivated the license in the old site, but still cant active in the new one.

Hi,

What error are you receiving? If you are not receiving an error can you try clicking the troubleshoot link – https://cl.ly/tRAE - AJ

ps: The license is used for updates only so you can always work on the site and activate it later on, no need to have it active before actually using the theme (just to clear some potential confusion as some customers think they need it to for the theme to actually work).

Please, can anybody help me? I’ve been stuck here for a long time!

Hi,

This is AJ the theme developer. I will reply to your previous comment right now. Thank you for your patience.

Hi!

Just a short question. In the Breadcrumps I want to use a font without Capitals. My page title has got capitals, but I do not want to show them in the Breadcrumps. Can you help me to disable capitals? Thanks

Edwin

Hi Edwin,

This is Aj the theme developer. Removing the capitals from the breadcrumbs is very easy. Simply copy the following CSS and paste it under Theme Panel > Custom CSS or Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS (same thing)

.site-breadcrumbs .trail-end { text-transform: lowercase; }

- AJ

Hi AJ, Many thanks for the response but the breadcrumb still shows a capital (only the first letter from the breadcrumb.) What can i do about it?

It shouldn’t, unless you are using a 3rd party breadcrumbs which may require different classnames. Can you share the URL so I can inspect?

- AJ

No option to Position Background in Slider Revolution, however when I look up how to change position there should be an option under Source Settings. Where is the option?

Hi,

This is Aj the theme developer.

You are correct, when you set a background you should be able to alter the position in the Source Settings like this – https://cl.ly/tKeb (video taken using the Total theme).

If you are not seeing these options can you double check to make sure the theme and your bundled plugins are all up to date – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/changelog/ If you want you can also submit a ticket so my support staff can log in and have look to assist you – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/support/ - AJ

Checked. All up-to-date. I’ve submitted a request. Thanks.

Looks like we got it, there are quite a lot of tickets on Mondays so I appreciate your patience. We’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Hi AJ!

I have a nice lazy load on the author pages:

https://www.geistigewelt.tv/author/teroerde/

How can I get this with the Total Blog Grid? I don’t like the pagination.

Thanks!

Hi,

This is AJ the theme developer.

It’s not going to be possible without some big alterations to the module itself because the pagination script works only with “archives” – modules like the blog grid work using shortcodes and custom queries so it will require adding a new custom script for this.

I am looking at adding a lazy load button function in a new grid module in Total 5.0 but adding it to the older modules like the Blog Grid isn’t ideal for efficiency and I prefer to keep the current modules as fast as possible.

For right now I would recommend a plugin like this – https://theme-one.com/the-grid/ – which allows you to create really custom grids and has lazy load options. Quite a few customers are using the plugin on their site so I know it’s compatible.

- AJ

Thanks as always for your great support! Looking forward to 5.0! ;-) By the way, I meant “infinite scroll” not “lazy load”. My fault. I hope, you understood me anyway.

Hi there. I bought your platform with Envato hosted. They told me to email you. I am having issues editing my website. I am using the front end editor and I am having issues adding photos. The first page has a revolution slider and when I click the pencil icons to edit nothing happens. This is the cas throughout the site. Any info on this?

Hi there,

This is AJ the theme developer. Technically Envato is supposed to help with any hosted sales (based on our contact) it’s a bit strange they would send you over here, but I am happy to help. The problem is because of how the hosted system works you technically don’t have the “support” license so it’s not possible to log into our ticket system so I can only help here in the comments or you can give me an email address I can email you directly so we can log into your site to look and see what’s going on.

Usually the issues you mention are caused by 2 things:

  • Outdated WordPress, theme and or plugins. Can you make sure it’s all up to date? – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/changelog/ * A 3rd party plugin is breaking things. Can you try disabling plugins and test to see if it works again?

I was under the impression based on how Envato explained hosted that they should keep your site up to date for you, but they did send an email out explaining they can planning on canceling Hosted so I don’t know what they are even doing now and why they are no longer helping their customers :(

Were you told you had to switch hosts? I’m curious what they are planning on doing with their current customers as it seems they are no longer supporting them.

- AJ

Hello, I am trying to create a ticket but yout support form is not sending my ticket through. I am using latest version of Firefox. The wheel is just stuck on spinning. Is there any other way I can send a ticket to you please?

Hi George,

This is AJ. We’ve spoken quite a bit in the past via the tickets. I don’t see any current issues with the form and there are many tickets being added. I will reply to your last ticket if you want to reply back from there.

Usually if the form is endlessly spinning it’s because you tried inserting code into the form such as html or javasript and Gravity Forms has functions in place for security reasons so it won’t go through. Were you doing that?

- AJ

Hi AJ, yeah, I had some code in there. Just received your email so I replied! Thank you!

Awesome. I am finishing up comments (23 left) and then I’ll jump on tickets. Thank you for your patience!

Hello AJ. I am using the following plugin. https://codecanyon.net/item/stachethemes-event-calendar-wordpress-events-calendar-plugin/16168229?ref=stachethems After installing i noticed some Fontawesome icons where missing. The plugin author tells me they are using Fontawesome 5. I have read you don’t use it. What can be done?

I will buy support once i get approval from client. I have bought Total about 3 times. Please help.

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you for your patience. Yes, Font Awesome 5 is VERY different from the version included in the theme, if I switch to version 5 a lot of customers are going to have issues due to the differences in the class naming but also because many icons were removed or re-designed. So at this point I can’t update the icon version in the theme for everyone.

Also a lot of plugins like the WPBakery Page Builder and Slider Revolution use the older FontAwesome version still.

So it’s possible there is some sort of conflict but it should be easy to fix those icons with a little custom CSS. The plugin developer should have given you the code for that. If they didn’t and you want to send me the URL in question so I can inspect it and see what’s missing I can provide it for you.

But more importantly, if the plugin is only loading a few icons – loading the whole FontAwesome 5 script (which is massive) doesn’t make much sense – you could remove it completely via a child theme and replace the icons with svg’s or the already included font awesome script to save loading time.

- AJ

Ok. Thank you very much.

I will pass this info to plugin developer. I only have problems with social icons on top bar, and only in the pages displaying the plugin’s calendar.

Thanks again. :)

Please help!! I can’t update WPBakery Page Builder , the system told me I need to update it before installing it! But I can’t find a place I can do the update (and the theme is up to date!). The failure message is as follows:

Downloading installation package from http://espressokamira.tw/wp-content/themes/Total/framework/plugins/js_composer.zip… Unpacking the package… Installing the plugin… Destination folder already exists. /home/content/p3pnexwpnas14_data03/70/41916170/html/wp-content/plugins/js_composer/ Plugin installation failed. Plugin not activated. A higher version of WPBakery Page Builder is needed for this theme. Please update the plugin.

Hi,

This error happens because your server isn’t correctly deleting the old plugin. When WordPress updates a theme or plugin the way it works is it first deletes the plugin/theme so it can install the new one. If there are server permission issues the old plugin can’t be deleted so you get the “already exits” error.

Are you able to delete the plugin from the plugins dashboard? If so, you can do this then re-install the plugin.

Otherwise, you need to contact your hosting company so they can fix the server issue or simply update via FTP. You can download it here – espressokamira.tw/wp-content/themes/Total/framework/plugins/js_composer.zip – extract and replace via FTP if needed.

Hi, I have set up my page with background image, and for each page I had to create white background in Visual Composer, so the text is readable on all devices (on desktop it looks fine, but with the same settings everything looks completetly different on mobile or tablet. There is no such option for blog entries, it looks like I can’t use VC plugin either on blog page or on blog posts. How can I make show/add white background there for mobiles or tablets, please? Website is siriusmarketaccess.com if you need to see it. Thanks

Hi,

So using the page builder to add the white background is a lot of extra work that’s not needed.

What I would recommend if you want a background on the site behind the content is to actually use the boxed layout which will give you this look – http://siriusmarketaccess.com/?site_layout=boxed You can select this in the Customizer – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/theme-layouts/ Otherwise if you want your site as is but add a white background to the text area you can add this CSS to your site:

body #main { background: #fff; padding-bottom: 30px;}

How to add CSS: http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/making-css-edits/ The code will make the content area white site-wide and add a little padding at the bottom as well so there is some space in the white area before the end of the page.

No need to manually add it via the page builder. If there is anything you want or need to do globally in the future let me know, because manually doing it on each page is very tedious, there is always a way to tweak things globally, no matter what it is.

Hi AJ,

I have been checking the SEO on this website and all the images have title and alt tags yet when I run my report it states there are over 3000 images without TITLE tags and 23 ALT tag missing

Is there a setting I should look at or an issue in the theme / VC ?

Chris

Hi Chris,

This is AJ.

So first of all title/alt tags on images is such a tiny tiny tiny factor in SEO that people don’t even worry about it. And in fact title tags and alts have a negative impact when it comes to accessibility which is very important. For accessibility reasons none of the theme’s images have title tags.

You can do some research on title tags on images and SEO and you may find some people that recommend it but most of that information is very old, it was important 10 years ago, not so much at all anymore. I personally wouldn’t worry – unless your website is a photography site and you are specifically trying to get your images to show up in Google image search, which is not the case here.

The only things you really need to be looking at for on page SEO is your title/description meta tags, make sure you have Open Graph tags (for social media – Yoast SEO adds these), create and submit an XML sitemap to Google Webmasters, your page/post h1 and h2 tags and make sure your actual page content/text is unique, long enough and contains the words you want to rank for.

After that make sure to link pages/posts to each other that make sense and get lots of good backlinks from other sites.

I would hate to see you spend a bunch of time optimizing image alt/title tags when you could use that time to do something that will actually help your SEO ;)

- AJ

ps: If you don’t believe me go to any top ranking SEO blog and you’ll notice no title tags or alt tags. Ex: https://searchengineland.com/google-updates-its-search-quality-rating-guidelines-302553

Hi AJ, Do you have a good way to trouble shoot why my 404 won’t redirect to the right page? I created a page (404) and redirected it. The slug is 404-2 and I can’t attach it to the page correctly.

Hi,

This is AJ.

First of all you should never redirect your 404 page it causes extra redirects slowing down the site but also can cause some big SEO issues.

That said, if you still want to…I’m not sure what you are trying to do can you share the URL and an example so I can see?

If all you want is a custom 404 design, instead go to Theme Panel > Custom 404 Page and if you select a page/template from here it will not redirect the 404 page but simply show that custom page when a user reaches the default 404 page generated by WP.

- AJ

I am using the recent news element and need to customize the display like this screen shot: https://cl.ly/0r2P2t1n323a I looked for snippets and css but did not seem to find any to get this design (date on top, title below date and format date) is this possible with css or any functions? any help is appreciated thank you

Hi,

Sorry I’m sure what you mean by “wp query display results”. Can you please explain? thanks!

- AJ

you mentioned making a custom vc module using this page https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/new-vc-module/ . I wanted to know if you had any snippets that show a complete custom module displaying “a simple WP Query”? thank you

Here is an example showing how you may alter the output to query posts – https://gist.github.com/wpexplorer/9322b7fece89d15f6f6445ba033b0654 I hope you had a nice weekend!

Hi AJ,

I want to change something in the footer area. Is that possible? See the screenshot:

http://bit.ly/2LNJJef Web link: https://backup.pferdeorthopaedie-wagner.de All the best

Hi AJ, thank’s for your answer. I know that option. But the problem is, the email address will be broken to the next line. This cannot be allowed to happen. Is there another solution? See link below.

Just one thing. I have seen, even with you a wrong word went in the link address. I’m glad it happens to others as well. :-) But what is this for a curious thing?

best regards

http://bit.ly/2ArdobR

Hi,

  • If you change the gap between the widgets there will be less space and the email will be forced onto another line, there is no way around that. Unless you use CSS to only target the spacing in the last 2 columns. Example:
#footer-widgets.wpex-row .col-3 {
    padding: 0 30px;
}

Result: https://cl.ly/tR5h * The issue with the links is a problem on ThemeForest :( Unfortunately as an author there isn’t anything I can do to fix that I will open a ticket to report it though.

- AJ

I found the malicious code. adword calls it malware. Any idea?

Hi,

This is AJ the theme developer.

This code should definitely not be in the theme anywhere. You didn’t provide any relevant context to this comment so I’m not sure where you found this or what’s going on and if you need any help. Do you want to explain?

- AJ

Hi,

Is there a simple way to localize overlay_button_text o vcex_post_type_grid grid_style=”masonry” overlay_style=”hover-button” ?

I’m using Polylang btw.

Hi,

If you leave the button text field empty when adding the module you can actually use a theme filter instead to alter via a child theme. Example:

add_filter( 'wpex_hover_button_overlay_text', function() {
    return 'your custom text';
} );

This would go in a child theme’s functions.php file: http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/child-theme/ Then you have more control over it. Otherwise because the text is in a shortcode you would have to create different versions of the page for each language.

- AJ

Hi!

Any idea on how to get rid of the white line below the top navigation bar?

This is what it looks like in the browser: https://johannesgustavsson.se/case/tubecon-sverige. I’m using Visual Composer on a Total Theme installation.

Thank you!

Hi!

Thank you for your response!

All pages using an Dynamic Template gets this issue and since the pages themselves doesn’t contain any text at all, it’s most likely that’ll be some problem with the overruling templates made with WPBakery Page Builder.

I can’t check them though: Nothing happens when I try to switch from “Visual” to “Text”. Is it something that is wrong with the back-end?

Johannes

Hi Johannes,

Correct, the issue is coming from the dynamic template – there is an extra P tag in the dynamic template. In order to remove the p tag we need to check in text mode. If you can’t switch to text mode it’s possible there is another plugin on the site causing the issue. Do you see any errors in the browser console when trying to click the button?

I see my link didn’t work correctly above, this is the proper way to switch – https://cl.ly/tLBm You need to make sure to first set the page to “Classic Mode” so the Page builder isn’t running.

- AJ

Hi!

I succeeded to switch to “Text” but unfortunately I can’t find the error.

The text editor: http://johannesgustavsson.se/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Skärmavbild-2018-08-09-kl.-14.11.17.png. Template live on page: https://johannesgustavsson.se/integritetspolicy/. Can you find anything causing this problem?

Hi there I am trying to get Zila likes inside VC blog grid module,to display for each post, next to date, but having problem, like icon displays outside blog div one next to each other. My client has licence for your theme, but he doesn’t want to give me login details to open ticket. I can give you his name and company and you can check he has licence for the theme. Can you please help, kind of stuck on this issue? I saw you have this like post function on Fashionista theme. Thanks

Hi,

The correct way to add this extra element is using a built-in filter via a child theme – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/add-content-total-grid-modules/

If you open the file at Total/vcex_templates/vcex_blog_grid.php you can see the names of the available filters. In your case you will want to target the “vcex_blog_grid_date” filter to either replace it completely or insert your new function.

For the position you can try using absolute positioning.

In my Fashionista theme I actually ended up modifying the script quite a bit and having it built-in because the default plugin had some issues.

- AJ

Thanks I managed to get it working with: }

if(function_exists('zilla_likes')) {
ob_start();
zilla_likes();
$output .= ob_get_clean();

Hi, I would like to add a header background to the single post pages. My logo is white, so it doesn’t show up on any of the single post pages. It must be a grid or template somewhere, but I can’t find it! Here is the site: www.quadcos.org and here is a single post page: http://www.quadcos.org/2018/06/12/summer-project-survey/ Thanks!

Hi,

You can go to Appearance > Customize > Header and set a default background color for your header which will show up on the whole site.

I see you set your logo to white because of the homepage which has the Overlay Header function – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/overlay-header/

So you can either give your default header a background color in the Customizer (or using CSS if you prefer) or instead you can set your default logo to a dark logo and use a white header on the rest of your site then use the settings on the homepage to set a white custom logo just for the homepage – https://cl.ly/tBYN (some customers prefer that).
