I just actually quit my job! I’ll be fulltime GR and freelancer in a few weeks!
Not that I’m gloating or anything!
Sales are very up and down. I had a really slow weekend, selling only 2 items and then I sold 18 in four hours today – weird!
Over all not the best month and not the worst – 102 so far.
I don’t like writing negative posts but as someone who mainly creates add-ons I’m very disappointed that there’s been no change to the prices in this category. I wonder why?
I can’t imagine that customers wouldn’t buy an item if it were a dollar or two more but that would make a big difference to the monthly turnover of authors such as myself.
What with that and the drop in quality of many of the recent items (particularly in Illustrator add-ons), I’m becoming a little disillusioned with the market place of late.
I resigned from my full-time job a few days ago and I’m going to be making stuff for Graphicriver (and a few other places) full-time from two months time!
I’ve been steadily building my portfolio over a couple of years (working lots of evenings when I get home from work) and although I’m not earning enough to support myself yet, I’ve estimated that I’ll match my current full-time design salary within a year…
I’m lucky enough to have a girlfriend who will be supporting me as I work towards my goal and without this kind of help, I think it would take years to build a big enough portfolio.
I think the main thing is not to rely on just one from of income, Envato, like any business has it’s ups and downs and you also have to rely on the US dollar doing well (which it currently isn’t against the UK sterling )so if going full time into something like this, I’d make sure you have multiple income sources.
Sales are up and down like a yoyo this month!
It’s been a very slow start with only a few sales per day but has picked up with 13 in last 24 hours. let’s hope it continues on upwards!
I have two Graphicriver accounts, one for items that are exclusive to GR and one with items that are sold elsewhere. This seems to work well!
In Illustrator, save your file as an EPS or AI file. When you get to the ‘Options’ section, select a lower version of illustrator in the ‘Version’ drop down menu.
Fast approaching 200 sales, my best yet. I’m pretty happy!
There’s a definite decrease – I’ve also noticed that since Envato changed the system, introducing no ratings below 4 stars without a written reason, I’ve had higher ratings. Or maybe I’m just getting better I think people just can’t be bothered to write anything?
