Im based in South Africa, so Im wondering if its safe to actually host overseas, in terms of speeds.
Your guys thoughts ? Would hosting overseas kill the speeds on my photography / videography site + blog ?
And it seems I missed the deal. Feck.
That makes me somewhat scared. Also considering Im in South Africa ( GMT +2 ), I have to email all support questions which means it support response and quality is VERY important.
Aloha ya’ll !
Im super tempted to take up the offer from one of these hosting providers as part of the Envato special but I am not sure which would best suit my usage.
I am a photographer / designer based in South Africa so I need something strong and secure. I also build websites for my clients as a bit of spare cash, so being able to add on domains is important to me too.
Thoughts + Recommendations ?
I primarily use Wordpress and currently have about 6 domains that I am overseeing.
I am a designer too so lets chat and see what ya after ! _
I have the REVENANT THEME which uses the AQUA Page Builder to create most of its pages. When browsing the site, I thought that the icons on the FEATURED CIRCLES would be changable to custom icons but I cannot seem to find that option anywhere.
I know I can change it to any of the FONT AWESOME fontsicons but none of them have “Pets, Dogs and Cats” related icons.
Ive been trying desperately for a few weeks to change it but I am completely unsure how and I need to change it to something other than FontAWESOME . How can I do this ?
Ive been playing around with a Wordpress Template Design in Photoshop, just trying to figure out how it all should work design wise, but I am not really a developer. I was tempted to put it up on PSD templates But Im not sure what all the criteria are for a PSD Template but more so, I really want it to be made.
Does anyone have any tips on where I can start this long journey of learning ?
No problemo everyone.
I would like to update it and keep it current and fresh and maybe link to some themes which I feel really gets it right. Again its all a matter of opinion down here but I am in the industry so, yeah.
What other things would you all like to know about, or any other questions ?
@Mad Dog -
I think you hit the nail on the head there. The balance between flashy JS and fast loading times is a tricky one. However, unless I am mistaken, having JUST a gallery that is a nice JS slider ( similar to the www.jhangjinja.com one ) surely would not take up as much loading time ?
Those one-page JS sites for example is way too much. And even the one I love so much, could literally open a page with that Horizontal Slider ( being the only thing JS ) with everything else HTML/CSS.
Little moves are wonderful but not at the expense that you’re too busy watching the site to notice the work.
So for example – Your J.Doe Responsive Theme.
Love all the functionality, but removing the Full screen and Side-screen Gallery JS, along with the image loader bar at the bottom would make a huge difference. Replace that gallery with a slider of some sorts and It would be way more practical.
Same with your HQ one.
I love it and it loads quickly, but the gallery is just not feasible. Its the only thing holding it back from being akin to those top-end flash sites. Even with the power of Flash, those sites are basic and simple and quick.
Another thing to keep in mind is that natively – most people are viewing at 16:9 or 1920×1080 . Did you know your average photo’s aspect ration is 8×10 ? So 1920×1080 ( screen ) VS 2000×1600 (photo, if you flip it )
See the problem ?
I love your work Mad_dog, and have bought two of your themes before. I hope this might help you and that Ill be buying more from you in the future.
