You did it in pretty quick time actually, only been here since Jan and only 10 files – good going!!
Read this earlier and intended to post a reply once I got time at work, but holypixel has summed it up very nicely. So I’m just going to go for a lame ‘I agree’ instead
This is a good thing.
Sales have been consistent for me – in fact I’ve been pleasantly surprised this month. I’ve been too busy (read: lazy) to add any new files so I was expecting them to have tailed off but I’m on track to beat last month and I haven’t yet had a day this month without a sale (usually 2-3 each day).
Certainly not any kind of volume to be getting too excited about yet, but I had got the impression from reading what others have said that a file gets a few sales whilst it’s on the homepage then dies off after that. This has certainly not been my experience (so far!).
Truthfully, I’m hoping to make it okay to use those images in your screenshots, as it makes for a lot of support issues, and unfortunate soft rejections.Cool, couldn’t agree more. Using copyrighted images as example content is quite different to using them in your actual design.
If you can’t populate a store with legitimate, relevent products – it’s always going to be harder to sell.
As a note – We’ve already okay’d four new WordPress templates, today alone. It’ll be about the same for Magento items from now on. Not worth getting upset about, if you ask me.
I count 6 mentions of the copyright infringement now – and still no comment on why it’s been allowed in this instance. Come on, you’re getting worse than a politician
Can we include images of relevant copyrighted images in store designs?
(Look, you made me resort to strong tags!)
Ok, some people are just being stupid now.
Firstly, more files benefit everyone. If someone discovers this place when looking for a Magento theme and has a good experience – then they’re going to come back when they need a WP theme or a PSD or whatever. So no authors should want to see any Envato enterprise fail.
Having said that, I am still not happy with your responses Jeffrey. You’ve dodged every mention of the copyright infringement – despite being raised several times. This isn’t just nitpicking, I (and I imagine others) genuinely want to know if it is ok – because it directly affects the template I am working on right now.
Plus you are currently selling 12 items which you are claiming are exclusive, whilst the author is linking back to his own website where he is also selling them and also claiming they are exclusive there as well. These items should have never got past the review stage with this issue and no more should be added until it is resolved (on both websites!).
I’ve only really recently ‘joined’ the TF community, having come over from GR – so I don’t want to be here moaning, but I do feel like you’re intentionally avoiding answering
what about copyright infringements mentioned? (and i have patient to put this questions all day long) for pictures, products and logos? is a magento theme panacea for half of market terms?I would also like an answer to this. I have been finding generic product shots from flickr (with license for commercial use – and crediting owners in the ReadMe) for my store design. But obviously it would sell a lot better if I could have shiny flashy pictures of Apple products.
Anyone can submit to this category, and, in fact, we have numerous submissions, from numerous authors, waiting in the queue. In which case, you really should have spaced out files from this author more – bringing through files from other authors. Perhaps it wouldn’t have been such a slap to the existing community if the batch had included unique files to TF, rather than someone copying and pasting from their pre-existing collection.
Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled at the push towards Magento – I myself am working on a Magento theme and at this stage, more files in the category can only help me – but I do agree that this was a mistake.
Can more themes from this particular author be put on hold until the exclusivity issue is resolved? It’s not just a case of claiming exclusivity here. He also claims on his own website that his themes cannot be bought anywhere else (despite being sold here for a lower price).
Personally, I was hoping for a stronger re-launch of the category than this …sorry!
Thats an interesting point actaully, perhaps they should have been trickled a little better.I imagine there are more in the queue, the guy has 38 themes for sale on his own website and these 12 are from there. I wouldn’t be surprised if the other 26 are going to follow soon after…
