It’s not a bad idea but 2 things need to come first.
1) buyers need to have time to learn what is and is not classified as support (this is likely to be awkward or vary slightly depending on author or file).
2) most importantly authors need a decent route to defend themselves when bad rating are unfair or not justified (as we already see with existing ratings).
I don’t think your idea is bad – just need to be implemented fairly.
You probably need some form of listings theme http://themeforest.net/category/wordpress/corporate/directory-listings.
This said you need to consider:
- Even in WP setting up osmehting like this is not going to be super easy for a beginner
- If you are planning on charging for membership ever ( as the demo you shared) then you need to buy an extended license i.e. several thousand $ ...
So you would probably be better off using that kind of budget to find a freelance developer to help you put something together.
Opt 1: In your download page click download & select ‘installable WordPress File Only’ & use this (if you can’t see this then it is not a WP theme).
Opt 2: Are you sure you have the WP theme and NOT a HTML file?
Opt 3: Are you using your own hosting and domain NOT WordPress.com
Opt 4: Unzip the theme folder and use ftp to install it
Read no 3 and 4 carefully http://www.webdesignerdepot.com/2009/02/10-web-typography-rules-every-designer-should-know-2/
Also search “font pairing” this eradicates the basic issue and allows you to focus on the technicalities
I love this guys work http://madeinebor.com/waves/index.html its so simple but can you see why the font choices and spacing ‘just works’.
