Hi guys, Just made an update to this plan on this thread! http://activeden.net/forums/thread/chicago-community-night-on-september-8th-2010/26969?page=1#251573
Hi everyone, As I mentioned a few months ago on the forums, we’re going to be having an informal meet-up in the US in September! We’ve set the date for this now, and it’s going to be on the evening of the 8th of September in downtown Chicago.
In order to get on with finding a space, I need to get an idea of how many people would be able to make it, and what sort of night we’re all after!
Here are the options:
Option 1 – we find a fun bar and all meet there for a night of meeting one another and hanging out! The pros of this one is that it’s easy to organize, free, and whoever feels like rocking up on the night can! The downside is that random people will be there too, we might not get to know each other as well, and if a massive number of people show up we might not all fit in the bar!
Option 2 – we find a private room and have a more formal meet for people who RSVP only (ie. anyone could come, but once the tickets all run out that would be it). The pros of this one is that only Envato people would be there and we could hopefully get to know each other better with the assistance of geeky name-tags! The downside is that only a limited number of people could attend (depending on the size of the space), and in order to make sure people actually showed up we might ask for a small cover charge (say $5 – $10) which would go towards a drink voucher or Envato goody bag. This would just make sure people wouldn’t RSVP and not show while other people couldn’t come!
So now I need your help! If you would like to come can you please participate in the poll below so we can get a good idea of how many people will come and what type of event will work best!Would you come to the Envato Community Evening on September 8th? online surveys
Thanks guys, and I look forward to meeting you all in September!!
Hi guys, This is a very generous and wonderful idea, but I think there are some legal implications involved with collecting or holding money on behalf of any charity. It’s pretty serious stuff (understandably), as there needs to be a lot of safeguards in place to ensure dodgy people don’t go around pretending to collect money for charity!
I think the best thing you can do if you want to donate is to go to a charity you trust and donate to them directly. If you’re unsure, you might consider donating to http://www.redcross.org, who are apparently doing a lot over there.
This is such a lovely idea though – what an awesome community we have to think of this!
DigitalHenry – you definitely won’t need to save for the meet-up as it will be either very cheap or free if we can manage it, but I guess it depends where you’re coming from!
Jeffrey – come on you know you want to! If you don’t we’ll have to have it where you live and we’ll all camp out outside your house.
Hi everyone, Collis and I are thinking of coming to the US in September and were wondering if we should organize an Envato meet-up while we’re there. It would be mostly a chance for everyone to meet each other, but we might have a couple of talks too!
In order to get a better idea of what would work, I’ve knocked up this little poll to see if it’s worth doing! Once we get your feedback we’ll announce more details!Would you come to a US Envato meet-up in September? (surveys)
