Hi Guys,

Im currently working on a French Project. I do have a person translating it… however shes not very internet saavy. I have one question regarding the “HOME” button of the Website. How would that translate in French? Also “HOME” ? or “Accueil”?

Furthermore how would you translate “Wining & Dining”!

I hope someone can help me with this :D

Thanks!!!!!!

‘Accueil’ is good for ‘Home’. What about ‘Gastronomie et Vins’ for ‘Wining & Dining’ ?

Hi Keliah!

Thanks so much for your awesome helP!!!!!

Ok Accueil it is. She translated “Wining & Dining” in “Manger et boire” – what do you think makes more sense for a french speaking person?

Your help is highly appriciated!!

You’re welcome :) ‘Manger et boire’ make sense, it means literally ‘Eating & Drinking’. I have the feeling that we usually don’t put verbs for that. Is it more a luxuous or a casual restaurant ?

Hey

If I may, “manger” et “boire” for a French (I am), sounds like filling your stomach in order not to die from starvation.

See what I mean ? For a fancy place, bad choice ! We frogs like to be picky and bourgeois regarding food, the more posh, the better.

I +1 on the last comment.

I’d say “dégustation” (tasting) goes for both wine and food.

“Marier vins et mets” (wedding wines and “posh food”) (sorry, French, no idea of translating it)

Hi Guys,

I really appriciate your opinions and im very thankful you guys are helping me so much!

Yeah its a resort, where they have various restaurants and bars. The english site says “wining & dining”

Not sure what we could use for the french version. Im a big fan of simplicity so perhaps “Manger et boire” is straight to the point. However I would like to please the french customer and make them feel welcome.

Again, your help is highly appriciated!!!!!!

Hi again

Well I’d say “Se restaurer” (including eat and drink).

Actually I think that the fact of pointing to the “basic” fact of eating and drinking is not warm or welcoming in French, because there’s a lot around those.

For us, a meal means gathering around a table with families and friends, sharing a meal, very often we talk about food in restaurants (compare, criticize, praise…).

I mean, carrying those symbols is a big plus, “manger et boire” eludes them.

Bon appétit !

No problem !

BTW , I do make translations (for my customers) but I could do website translations for you.

(from English to French).

As my main job is copywriting in French, I could write stories that sell to the French.

just in case…

Cheers,
