Hey guys,

I am about to submit a theme and I was planning to put the documentation online instead of including it with the theme. This way I can easily add/update it and make it easy for users to keep up.

Does anyone know if there is a requirement to include a copy of the documentation with the theme files?

I am not sure 100 % it is a requirement and think you should be ok with online files but I would put a simple doc in there with your support details if applicable and maybe a brief description as to where online to find the documentation – just as a safety net!

There was a thread not to long ago about this, you do need to have documentation, you can have an online copy too, but you can’t just reference it. It needs to be a fully working version.

I imagine it wouldn’t be too bad if you have version 1 docs with the theme and version 2.8 docs online and said “For most up to date look online”

Thanks for the response guys. Ah I must have missed that thread!

I think that is the best solution – Include the documentation with the theme and reference the online version to see the most up-date documentation.

@Flatking, what exactly do you mean by “but you can’t just reference it”?

Thanks again guys.

My memory isn’t that great so I’m just paraphrasing a bit. I think you need a complete version and you can’t just have a.

“Thanks for buying view the docs here <website>”

I’ll tag for staff reply

Im almost 100% sure you need to have everything available offline. That includes assets and any help files/documentation.

Not everyone has 24 hour internet access, and a lot of buyers prefer working offline till the product is ready to be uploaded.

Hope that helps

Ah I see, that makes sense Flatking.

Yeah, I now think it’s best to include a copy of it with the theme, I’ll just mention to check online to see if there is a newer version: Win-win.

Cheers guys :)

I one time got the request to put instruction videos through a site like youtube instead of including them with the package.

But then again have those videos embedded in the documentation.

Citation? I find that very hard to believe.

+1 Already asked support about this, everything should be available offline as well, especially the docs.
