I make my entire living here, I’ve worked hard and had no “one hit wonders”, Envato helps me support my partner through her PhD and recently we bought our first house :)

i would say that on themeforest, codecanyon and videohive it is somewhat “easier” to emerge and to earn more money. there are less authors and items are priced higher than on audiojungle.

just have a look at the “top author” list… on audiojungle there are 8000 authors with more than 1 sale. on themeforest/codecanyon/videohive less than half. moreover, authors sells considerably more…

e.g. on page 10 of top autiojungle authors http://audiojungle.net/author/top_authors?page=10 we have 400 sales. on page 10 of videohive http://videohive.net/author/top_authors?page=10 1000 sales.

less competition, more buyers, higher priced items.. :)

if you can choose, don’t choose music! :D

For a while, Audiojungle was my only source of income. Because I live with my parents even to this day, I didn’t have to worry about paying the bills. I doubt that qualifies as earning a “living” from Audiojungle though.

It is possible, if you are good and selling on themeforest, videohive, audiojungle and graphicriver. For some other marketplaces is different story

“bosbone” I don’t think you are right when you said “less competition, more buyers, higher priced items” take a look on 3d ocean.

If you can choose, choose something you like doing, because if you don’t like what you are doing you will be just like 80% other authors who have 1 item and 1 sale, and after one year they give up.

I know it’s not marketplace related, but before I became a contractor for Tuts+, I lived off my earnings from writing regular tutorials for Tuts+, thus lived off Envato money then. I know of plenty other authors who do the same as I did :)

I think that if you put your mind to it you can make a decent living working on envato stuff.

I do this as a hobby and it’s not too shabby and great extra dough.

I have a 9-5 job as a CNC programmer which pay the bills. All of the envato earnings pay for my second hobby which is fishing. Payed for some of my bass boat and gas and also my new fish-finder. Also my new computer and many other small things.

So the potential is there to make a full time living but i think the thing is that you have to constantly add new material to your portfolio so people will recognize you and your product. Have great customer support and so on. Then the buyers will come back because they know you are top notch.

Cheers

Lester

Thanks guys for you awesome responses, I only need to earn a small amount extra on top of my current 9 – 5 earnings to be able to support myself in my own accommodation!
