I love you ThemeForest, and the authors here are incredibly talented, but I think we need to start moving away from this type of design and come up with some unique layouts:
I won’t point any templates out that look like this, but I can easily find at least 20 of them, probably more. You know who you are. I may be guilty of it a little bit too.
Gah, sorry about the multi-posts guys…
Nice.. I usually follow this structure.. but right now, my navigation is located below the logo.
Deffo agree with that. Not being an author at TF (at the moment) I can only speculate but I think many authors do the ‘tried-and-tested’ designs to earn $$; after all, you wouldn’t want to slave away on a theme for weeks to earn very little.99% of the designers here have some real talent and I personally think TF would benefit from people breaking out, not just from this design mould but also from the whole ‘Portfolio’ theme – why not try something like this:
- Nightclub theme
- Driving instructor theme
- Haunted house theme
- Modelling Agency
- These are all subjects I have personally been asked to design many times.
I don’t want to offend anyone, I mean this only as a constructive comment. I know ‘themes’ are just templates to be tuned by the buyer but in reality a lot of people who buy these themes hardly change them at all so there’s definately an opening there.
Geez Justin.. you read my mind! I was about to post a topic about this..
But you’re right.. on the current homepage there are 9 examples on this Please people, break that mold and be original
You’re more than welcome to branch off with your designs—just as long as they’re still crafted excellently and serve a purpose.
But if those particular type of designs are selling, surely designers will jump on the band wagon to cash in!
right on Justin. this reflects the comments I made in assessing the anniversary entries. many were all the same design layout which after a while becomes very boring. there are limits to what can be done on the flat screen we look at everyday but designers need to stretch their wings.
it would be interesting to look at all of the templates on TF and categorize them by layout. you probably would not find that many. in the end, I go back to web sites for content, not design layout, regardless of how fancy or not it is.
perhaps it is a matter of templates not being very sellable but I really would like to see templates for sale that would cover some of those topics that the writer above mentions. maybe we are not using our imaginations enough to see how some of those already availble could be used for a broad range of uses.
