Myself nor my webs guy can figure out how to make the default 404 -page not found show the “Recent” blog posts instead of the Popular.
See image here: http://www.algotrades.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/404.png
Your best bet is to create a 404 template with at least one registered widget area – then you can drop in a widget from WordPress for whatever you want on the 404 page. That’s what we do in our themes – then you can have a search, recent posts, popular posts or anything else.
WordPress site and codex explains how to register widget areas.
Otherwise you would hardcode a loop for what you want in the specific template – again details are available at the WordPress site or hire a developer to do this for you.
THank you but I cannot use any type of 404 redirect with the shopping cart im using Membermouse as it used 404’s in a way I cannot redirect them or my billing does not work.
404 is file not found – not a redirect…. should have nothing to do with the function of anything.
SO what widget do I download for this? im new and need a little hand holding please
Unfortunately this is a job for your web guys – as mentioned a template needs creating with a widget area, then a widget needs to be registered in the theme used then you can drag n drop a widget in your WordPress admin – if you’re not a coder of any kind then it’s probably something you should pay someone to create for you I think – but as mentioned all the info is available on the codex section of WordPress’ site.
create a 404 template http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_an_Error_404_Page
use a loop to get your recent posts http://codex.wordpress.org/The_Loop (most likely you can copy the index.php and paste it in the 404.php)
Thank you guys, I did stumble around and get it figured out for my enfold quantitative trading strategies site.
I must say, after using dozens of WP themes for several different quantitative trading sites I run, ENFOLD or should I say all themes made by Kriesi has the best system powering WP.
If any of you guys ever want to learn more about automated trading systems (quant trading) just email me, I owe you.
Thanks again! Chris V.
