One of our latest theme got rejected and I wonder if some HTML tags considered invalid by the W3C validator are allowed by ThemeForest.
For instance, here are two useful but “invalid” HTML tags:
The X-UA-Compatible meta
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge,chrome=1">The first one is a meta tag that you place in your header to let Internet Explorer know to use a certain rendering engine. In my opinion it’s still useful, and it is still being used by the HTML5 Boilerplate. There various ways to Fix Bad value X-UA-Compatible, but none that applies to HTML templates. Is this meta allowed by ThemeForest? If not, what am I supposed to do? Just remove it?
The HTML5 pubdate attribute
<time pubdate>2009-08-30</time>I thought that the pubdate attribute was or is still used by Google. Is it still recommended to use it? Or did it finally got removed from the HTML5 specs?
Looking forward to reading your answers…
I don’t believe that all the themes should be %100 validated as some top selling themes have more than 50 html5 errors.
Also some WordPress functions generate invalid html5 codes too…
