I’m working on a theme and was wondering what would be better. Would it be better to make it so the users can create a page in the WP admin so they can design it however they like using shortcodes and stuff, and select to display that page as their homepage, or would it be better to code in some modules on the homepage that show like recent posts, portfolio items and other stuff they wouldn’t be able to do if they selected to use a page as the homepage? Of course that would mean they only had a few options for homepage display which I personally wouldn’t like.
What do you guys think?
Give the complete flexibility is what i think, allow that to put whatever they want where they want it.
So basically those “modules” you’re talking about, copy paste them in special shortcodes and voila, they can use that too
What is with these shortcodes, can someone explain me?
I am new to WP, and while playing around I’ve noticed that you can edit page html in rich text editor.
Why should anyone use ‘meta html’ (shortcodes) if editor already supports html?
[recent_posts amount=6 width_per_post=”one_third”]
That for example would echo the short versions of last 6 posts in 2 rows 3 columns. Do that with HTML
digitalimpact saidnot just that their not comfortable with it for some reason, and a lot of people don’t use the shortcodes even
FullTank saidNot all people that use WordPress know how to use HTML
Why should anyone use ‘meta html’ (shortcodes) if editor already supports html? Thanks
That’s why I think the solution Boba has coming up simply rocks!
OK yeah I think I’ll just make it so they can do whatever they want. Guess I’ll have to make some shortcodes so they can include that stuff as well.
Whatever you do, just try to have an option where the user can create their own home page EXACTLY how they want by turning off your features and just choosing a home page to show the slider or whatever. Homepage needs to be entirely flexible and not the authors vision
