I am adding a feature to a windows app that I am selling here that will allow people to backup an unlimited number of websites using FTP. Instead of raising the price of my original item, I would like to offer a plugin that people can purchase to get the new feature. I don’t see a plugin category for windows apps and wanted to make sure it was possible…
What if I were to offer it within the application and anyone can purchase it directly from me. Would this be against the rules to do?
@Crusader12 – sorry, my long post was hard to understand. Can I submit a plugin to a current windows app I have on the marketplace?
@WebSmacker, Sorry for misunderstanding. I checked out your item and now understand you’re either 1) trying to post an additional item which is a Feature Addon for your existing item, or 2) offer the Feature Addon to your existing item for sale outside of the marketplace.
I would think that option 1 would be more ideal – similar to selling a pack of Skins for a plugin, etc. However, I’m not the one to answer this question.
I’d suggest contact support to see if they can provide a clear answer to make sure you’re not breaking any policies or going against the Exclusivity agreement.
I’m sure there are a lot of authors (including myself) that would like to know the answer to this. If you could post the support response to the thread that would be very helpful
Good idea. I just submitted a support ticket and will post the reply. Stay tuned
I asked support if it was allowed to offer a plugin outside of the marketplace, but I got a reply that doesn’t really answer my question (see below). I know I can’t sell the item itself, but where do plugins/extensions land because in the article they are not specified. They are technically “different” items.
Email reply from support: Hello Dan,
Thank you for your message to Envato support. If you have an item on the marketplace that you’re also selling off site, this is allowed but it falls under non-exclusive authorship. For more information about exclusivity, please read the following article from our knowledgebase:

I still didn’t get a straight answer of yes or no. (see email below) I still don’t know if I’m allowed to sell the plugin outside of the marketplace, and if the plugin doesn’t get accepted into the marketplace I just wasted time creating the plugin….
Oh well, I’ll add this to my “not so helpful support replies” list which seems to be adding up.
Hello Dan, Thank you for your message to Envato support. It will be up to the review team whether or not this is allowed. My suggestion is to create your plugin and submit it; our review team will look at the item and let you know whether it needs to be more flexible or not for the application on marketplace items. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you. Kind Regards, Envato Support
Hey Websmacker, sometimes it can be difficult to make judgment calls on items without really seeing anything. However, support should be able to provide you with a set answer.
Since this is rather important, I’m going to alert support of this, hopefully you’ll get a clear answer and be able to post back here.
It should be clearly noted somewhere if plugin “addons” such as Graphics Packs, Extensions, Skins, etc. can be sold elsewhere without violating the Exclusivity agreement.
It should be clearly noted somewhere if authors are allowed to post Graphics Packs, Extensions, Skins, etc. as individual items to an existing thread – if the item is large enough to warrant being an individual item.
Hopefully you’ll get a response soon. Thanks!
