Lately I tried to clean up some space on my harddisk and came accross various old projects. In one of those projects I also found my very first screen design which I would love to share here and I hope you jump on the train and share yours too since it would be really funny to see how we’ve evolved and refined our own styles compared to the first days and also to remember a little bit the old times.
Here is my one:
It was basically supposed to be my own website and was created about 2002-2003.
If I watch it I can only laugh and think about myself as a children already learning to draw
Now it’s your turn
Self promotion is not allowed
My very first design leads back to ‘96 but too bad I lost all my old backup a couple years ago
Well, I guess I’ll contribute
It isn’t my first website ever, but it’s the first one that I made for a client, that’s still live:http://mojganhabibi.com/
It’s horrendous It also has a link to my old website (which has since been nabbed by some link hoarding website). It was before I knew about reset stylesheets, sprites and… well… proper design
I also learnt about text direction, and how difficult it can be to find fonts that render a non-latin alphabet.
My first ever website I coded was a replica of IE5 (the browser of choice at the time). I re-designed all the browser icons to match sections of my site, so it was like a “browser within a browser”. The icons were image maps and the content was within iFrames.
And there’s my secret shame. I hope you all enjoy the laugh..!
awesome Kate…there is no field validation, no lightboxes for images, no rounded corners nor gradients and I guess also no cms in the back? That’s what I call old-school – really like it – in terms of “first designs”. And compared to your current design style you’ve made giant leaps forward
Thx for your contribution

Oh no, there was WordPress back then I just didn’t know how to install it, let alone design for it or use it for anything other than a blog.
But yes, no field validation, I hadn’t heard of lightbox, rounded corners weren’t “in” back then… Oh the shame
Thanks for the kind words though – glad to know I’ve improved
