You need to increase the number of posts per page, so from the dashboard, go to: Settings > Reading, and increase the posts to 12 per page ( screenshot http://cl.ly/2r1Z2Q3o3k0M ) you can control the number as you want.

For the image size, it’s always better to be a large image, for example images more than 1000px or 1500px wide will be great.
