Had bought this theme in 15. What I found is that a few critical things were broken for unknown reasons.The authoring company has created a dependency on some of their plugins *which are NOT a part of thetheme itself* & you have to install them, eg PIXTYPE,etc & the biggest eyesore of them all, PixelgradeCare. WHY should i internally connect my WP to PG servers when there is already a key to validate if I have bought the theme legally or not.The PixType is a*REQUIRED* plugin to create custom type posts for the Portfolio Masonry archive view. & when you go into Settings it shows a blank page . When I contacted PG via their email they reply: 
''From what I can see, the support for your Border theme expired. You can continue using the theme, but if you want to get the benefit from our support, you have two options:
You have 2 opt:
#1.Ext the support via Env  that means you need to pay 87.5% of the theme's price, which means $65,63. You get 6 months of support and need to do the same after the other six months and so on. This is how Envato works, or
#2.Purchase the theme again from our shop this time, because here we can offer lifetime support and updates, which was not possible via Envato. The price on our shop is $95 and get lifetime support and updates, as mentioned. If you choose this second option,I can offer you a generous discount of 20%. That means you get Border with lifetime support and updates for only $76, instead of renewing it for $65,63 for 6 months.''

This might be a way for them to earn money, but I suspect foul play here.There have been dependencies created on external plugin and I feel that once I renew their support for those dollars it will all star working magically. Of course they will make it seem like I am a newbie and I dont know how to do things.
Something is not right.This is not a case of a few dollars but more of ethic-pushing people to pay up is wrong. Esp when they have paid up for a theme that should work on a fresh install.

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you feel like that. It's far away from the kind of experience we want to provide for our customers.

I'm not going to argue here, but I just want to underline something. Since purchasing through Envato you get limited time support and since we're not exclusive authors here, we decided to offer alternatives to our customers, so they can choose – extending the support via Envato, or purchasing lifetime license from our shop. There's no scam, or non-ethical issues here at all.

Also, as mentioned at the beginning, once you own a license, you can continue using the theme without problem. You can even update the theme (manually), but you can't get the benefit of our support anymore after the support expires.

However, related to the issue you've been facing — most probably there was a compatibility issue between PixTypes plugin and I could have investigated it further, but you didn't give me the chance.

I hope you found a much better solution for your website and for your needs.

I've set up over half a dozen websites between over the years for my photography and production agency. This has by far been the easiest and quickest to build while not sacrificing on usability. Everything works straight out of the box and the quick easy access pop up self help box makes any hurdle easy to jump over.

most of the blogs posts needs to be loadeded 2 times to appear and related post not appearing in post in many cases. Selected the like button in jetpack but nothing is appearing in the post...

I get the feeling this theme is just a milkcow. After an update, (which is rare) the update was excluded for about 2 months for buyer without support-membership. Now it is available but you have to do it manually. Besides that without membership you cant download the example which is needed for getting the theme as it is presented.

I'm sorry to hear what you think about Border theme. However, allow me to mention that updates are always available, once you bought the theme. The difference is that if you have valid support, you can benefit from automatic updates. Learn more about extending support on Envato, here. If your support expired, you can update the theme with no problem, by simply downloading it form your pixelgrade account or from your ThemeForest Dashboard, Download section.

This is the first time I'm dealing with a theme that once you don't have support service - they shut down the ability to make automatic updates.

This is a very bad way to do business for the long run, and I hope my review will help others not buying this Border Theme or any other PixelGrade Theme. This is the only way to change things, vote with your wallet.

Customer service tells me I can still update the theme by downloading the theme again and installing with the files - hello, this is 2018, it shouldn't be this way, it should be easy.

I will also send Envato email about this, this is not OK, they never told me that once the support is over I'll don't have the ability to automatically update the theme. BEWARE!!!

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. However, as I already mentioned in our private conversation, updates are not related to support period. You don't need to have a valid support in order to update the theme. If you don't have support, you can manually update the theme without any problem, just like is described in this article.

Also, Envato doesn't show anywhere how the updates should be delivered, they just state the update should be available for any client: Envato - What's included in Item Support?

I used Border for serveral years but the theme hasn´t been updated since december 2017! Several issues don´t work any longer and I have to renew my support (pay $55!) to get help. So I just bought another theme that is amazing with much more options, quicker and more modern for half of the price of Border.

I'm sorry to hear about the experience you've had with Border theme. We didn't update the theme since December 2017 because there are no bug or important issues that we know about. I wish I knew more about the ones you've been facing.

As for the renewal, this is how any WordPress theme from Envato works, so I think it's the same for the other theme you've bought. Basically, you can use the theme forever without any problem, but if you want to get the benefit from our support, you need to have a valid support period. BORDER is a beautiful theme, and it looks amazing on a desktop browser when everything is configured properly, but it scales so poorly on mobile devices that it's practically unusable on a tablet or phone.

It's a tedious chore to resize, crop, and re-optimize the composition of photographs to work properly with BORDER. If you're anything like me, the last thing you want is to spend hours in post with photographs which you processed meticulously for hours and hours already.

In summary, BORDER is a good theme if you have a considerable amount of time to edit photographs and image files to make everything look right—or even if you just want to cater to your desktop users and couldn't care less about how your website looks on a tablet or mobile device—but if you're short on time or have a lot of mobile hits on your website, you should probably consider other options.

I can guarantee that Border is fully responsive, that can be seen by checking our demo site on a mobile or tablet. This theme is very difficult to setup properly. The included Page Builder plugin does not work properly on any of our three browsers.

The support documentation does not match this theme. It leads you to menus and options that do not exist.

This theme was marketed as extremely robust, but lacks in every way we have seen.

I'm sorry to hear about the experience you've had with our theme. However, please let me state here publicly that Border theme doesn't come with any Page Builder plugin included so, to be honest, I don't understand why you're pretending we did that and it's not working. There's no such a plugin included in Border theme and I'm sorry to hear that from you.

We are aware of the outdated PDF files that come with the theme's archive for documentation and we're in the process of updating them. However, you can find the full and up to date documentation online, here - https://pixelgrade.com/docs/border.

I'm sorry to say this, but I hope that you will find another theme that will suit your needs better.
