Hi, I’m considering purchasing this theme but I had a question about SEO that I was hoping you could throw some light on. Will all the AJAX and Responsive Design make it harder for Crawlers to index my site? Please pardon my ignorance.. I do intend to upload images with ALT tags, keywords & descriptive filenames, but I’m not sure if there’s a tradeoff between a beautiful portfolio site (which the Expression theme will definitely create) and a photography site that will be more ‘visible’ to search engines. Thanks in advance !

Thank you for the interest :)

The AJAX in the gallery and the responsive design won’t stop the crawers from indexing your site. As soon as there is a static menu in the header (which this theme has), containing links to all the pages – these pages will be indexed. What is most important for SEO is the actual textual content – you shouldn’t rely on images only and it is very important to have lots of text content in your website which describes it, because in the end the actual text content is what matters for the search engines. The gallery in the theme is constructed from images only and is created for a nice visual representation for your site visitors – even being in a static version without AJAX , a single gallery of images cannot do much about SEO , so if you have some products and work that is very important to be indexed by search engines, the best thing you can do is to create static pages with lots of text containing important keywords describing your content.

Thanks a lot for this detailed reply! I’m going to get the theme & try and apply your guidelines. I may still ask a few more questions :-) Regards..

I hope you will enjoy working with the theme :)

Fantastic theme, pexeto! I have been looking for a great responsive theme for my photography portfolio from 3months, can you believe it?

Could find good ideas and nice themes though, but none of them with ALL the things that I wanted.

This satisfies my hunger :-) I just LOVE IT ! Bravo! will purchase it straight ahead..

hey pexeto, just before buying the theme I’ve found the same annoying bug which affects all those themes which use prettyPhoto: See how it behaves on iPhone 4S

Do you plan to fix this quickly? I’ve notice lots of other guys have fixed the JS which makes it work like that.

Do you have any ideas if you will provide a hotfix for it?

Take good care Marco

Hi Marco,

I can think of an easy solution – to open the image in its real size on iphones only and I can provide the instructions on our support site. However, I will also definitely think of a way to modify the default PrettyPhoto plugin code so that it removes these margins around the lightbox and leave more space for the image, which I will also implement into next update of the theme.

OK fantastic. Just what I wanted to hear.

Those guys from RT Themes did a terrific job as well solving this crappy bug in a couple of days on their newest theme. And I was sure you could provide a fast workaround as well

Hi Pexeto. Is is possible to display portfolio categories as a list in custom sidebar? I wish to list portfolio categories (Models Name in my case) like this

We have a dedicated support system where all the Pexeto items support is handled, so we kindly ask you to use our support system here:

to post your support questions. Thank you :)

P.S. You can do this – when you go to Appearance -> Menus, click on the “Screen Options” button in the top right section of the window and check the “Portfolio Categories” option – then they will be visible and you can add them to the menus and widgets you like.

I purchased and downloaded, but on install, I received a message that said “The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet. Theme install failed.” Please direct me to how I can obtain a complete download. I’ve sent an email also. Thanks, Joanne

From your comment below I can see that you have figured this out :) If you still have any other questions, I would like to ask you to use our dedicated support site here:

Disregard the previous message – I found the file within the total .zip file – all is good; install successful.

Hi there, I’m considering this theme for a client, who is a photographer.. We’d like to know if it would be possible to create password protected photo galleries…?

thank you! ~s

You can very easily create password protected Quick Galleries – you can see an example here (use “pexeto” as password) – the gallery can be in a sidebar layout (as it is on that page) or fullwidth page without a sidebar. Also, you can make the portfolio items password protected containing a Quick Gallery, so that you can use the standard Grid Gallery and when you click on an item, you can be redirected to such a password protected page.

AWESOME – I’m pretty sure that my client is going to go with this theme… She was really excited about it. and the password protected gallery option is crucial. thank you! great work!!

Thank you! :)

The Yoast SEO Plugin is reporting this error:

Your theme contains a meta description, which blocks WordPress SEO from working properly, please delete the following line, or press fix it:

<meta name=”description” content=”<?php if ((is_home() || is_front_page()) && get_opt(‘_seo_description’)) { echo (get_opt(‘_seo_description’)); }else{ bloginfo(‘description’);}?>” />

Please let me know how to fix this.

Many thanks!

To remove the default description the theme adds you have to delete that line you have pasted above from the theme’s header.php file – this is line 41.

what about a search bar to search through images with tags?

By default the gallery doesn’t include a Search within itself, but you can use the default WordPress Search widget (you can see an example in the sidebar of the Blog page)- we can provide instructions on our support site about how to include it in the footer for example, so it is visible in the gallery.

Hello Pexeto,

Another great design from You. I’ve got one pre-purchase question. I already know that I can make a front page using full width/height slider. Do I need to make a another gallery specially for the front page slider or can I use one that already exists? For example I’ve got a Portrait gallery setup as a standard gallery but I also want picture from this gallery to appear on front page as a Full Width Slider.

Thanks, I’m glad you like it :)

If you are referring to this Full-width slideshow page (or the full-height in the same format) – these pages display the attachment images that are added to the page from the “Add Media” button of the page, so as soon as the images are attachments for the page, they will be displayed in the slideshow of the page.

Pexeto, this theme looks amazing and I’m almost glad I procrastinated enough on kicking off my blog before I found it. Just a couple of pre-buy questions: 1. Is there a way to make Left and Right arrow keys toggle through photos when in Full Width or Full Height slider view? in the demo it scrolls through the thumbnails, which doesn’t seem to be very productive 2. Contact features a nice google maps cut-out on the right-hand side. I’ll be using this blog to log my travels as well and it’d be awesome to have a nice little map on the side to show where I am- could I add maps to an individual blog post?

Thanks for addressing my questions :)

Thanks, I’m glad you like the theme :)

1. By default we have designed the full-width slideshow so that it can be simple and clean, so it supports thumbnails only as navigation, however we will be also considering adding arrows in one of the theme’s updates.
2. As the posts share the same blog sidebar, it would be easiest if you insert the map into the content of the post – the map plugin we have included provides a shortcode to insert it, so it is very easy to be inserted in the content of the post. Otherwise, enabling different sidebars for different posts can be also easily accomplished (with two code changes for which we can provide the instructions on our support site) so that you can directly use the map widget into the sidebar.

Thanks for the prompt response!

For question 1, I’d like to clarify that I love the way you have everything set up. I’m in the same camp as you; I’ve never really liked arrows on the left and right side of the photo. Just wondering if it’s possible to use the arrow keys on the keyboard (left & right) to control slideshow, instead of using the mouse to click on each thumbnail. Otherwise everything looks great!

I missed the “keys” part of your question above, sorry :) The arrow keys are currently assigned to the thumbnail container, but they can be easily assigned to show previous/next image – we can provide instructions for this.

Hi, Can the home page load as the full-width slideshow instead of the standard gallery? I’m recommending this theme to my photographer friend for her site, and would like to know before she buys. Thanks…beautiful work!

Thank you :)
Yes, you can set a full-width slideshow to be your front page – you can set any page to be your front page.

Hi Pexeto,

Loving the Expression theme. One question: I’d like to use the galleries/images as an index for other content (e.g. blog posts, etc.). Do the photo or gallery captions allow for links? Any examples?

Many thanks. Looking forward to working with the theme.

Hi Andy,

I’m glad you like the theme :)

You have two options to set links in the gallery. The first one is to make the item itself a link item – you can see an example on the Mixed Gallery on the “Custom Link Item”. The other option is to set the link in the description of the image within the item – you can see an example on the 4th image description in this item.

I would just like to echo other people’s comments that this is a superb photography theme! I used some other very good themes but they always lacked something, this one ticks all the boxes and is simple to set up and use.

For anyone using a website to sell images, I am using this theme with eShop and it integrates perfectly.

I congratulate and thank the author for creating a truly awesome theme.

Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to provide your feedback! I’m really happy to hear that you are satisfied with the theme and I hope you will enjoy working with it in the future as well :)

Just playing around with demo and so far I like what it offers. Couple of questions though. 1. Does it support child themes? I’d love to make all customizations outside main theme since this would make future updates easier 2. is it possible to set up full width blog and implement other post formats like aside, quote etc?

Here are my answers:
1. I did a quick test with a child theme and all the main functionality (styles and template files) was working fine with it. I will also do a complete test with every single functionality (like back-end functions) in the theme for the next update and will make sure that every single part is working well with child themes.
2. Yes, the blog supports a full-width layout (without a sidebar). Regarding the post formats – by default the standard, gallery and video formats are supported. A quote post can be easily set if you just insert the quote with the blockquote button in the beginning of a standard post. However, we will be considering adding these additional formats for the next update as well.

Hi, nice Job! The theme is easy to work with and the responsive behaviour is one of the best here on TF.

My issue: currently the full-width and also full-height slider start with image 1 and it`s possible to scroll to image 2… but it is not possible to scroll back to image 49 for example. I need to show many works and user should be able also to scroll back from the start. Hope you get my intention.

Would be great to get the code-lines and where to add.

Many thanks!

Thanks, I’m glad you like the theme :)

I think the customization you are asking about will require some more work – I’m not sure whether I understand it correctly, but from what I understand I think it won’t be something that can be inserted in one-two lines code. Also, as I understand you want to change the default “Previous project” scroll functionality to show the last image which would break the linking between the projects. Anyway, I would like to ask you to use our dedicated support system here:

as this is where all the Pexeto items support is handled and if you do, please try to be more specific of the exact functionality you want and we will see if we can think of an easy to insert snippet.

thanks for your reply. I will describe the desired customization more detailed later on. For now, I got the following question:

Is it possible to use password protected portfolio-items or pages? Would like to provide links to my clients, which they only can enter with a passowrd.

Thank you!

It is possible to use password protected standard portfolio items and pages. For example for portfolio item, you can make its type a standard page, set password protection to it and insert a quick gallery with all the added images into it. If you need more information about how to do this, you can register on our support site where we can provide more detailed instructions.

Hello, thx for good idea… what about the html version?

At this point there isn’t an HTML version of the theme, however we would still be considering this for our future project development.

Hi, it looks great – the only thing is that I want the blog layout to look like the galleries/ homescreen layout. I mean I would like to have full width photos for blog posts (no sidebar) and a gallery-type of view for posts. Is that possible in the theme options?

Thanks, I’m glad you like it :)

The blog exists in a standard page layout only – you can have it with sidebar, or fullwidth (standard page width without a sidebar), but there isn’t an option included to have it in a gallery layout.

dear pexeto, just one more question.

Let’s say I have in my portfolio several pics from my travels, which are not really photos from my freelance activity, but that I wish I can keep online.

So, my idea is to have a templated gallery with filters (Such as Italy, China, Japan, Spain etc…) to be used only for my travelling pics. For all the others, I want to use another gallery template, from those available within your theme.

Do you think this is achievable?

Thanks again! Marco

Hi Marco,

I’m not sure whether I understand your question correctly, but generally you can have different galleries containing different images/items and category filters.

I like this theme a lot. simple uncluttered design, incredibly fast (copared to other sililar themes). I like your plans with child themes. Sounds very promising for future. I assume this theme handles images using standard media library as Photolux does, right? (I purchased that theme and it rocks, very well done). This is common for all themes here but I find media library very limiting for serious work. I would love to use Slideshowpro Director as my media CMS and publish images directly to posts and let’s say Galleria or any other good looking galery/slider solution. I know this is little bit a dream but I am sure serious photographers would welcome this or similar solution.

1+ to comment from other users that fullscreen slideshow could use arrows and keyboard control, +ability to hide thumbnails.

Would love to see sharing options on blog posts as well. Lots of photographers are big on blogging as well. I like how you implemented it on galleries.

Well these are just suggestions. But already as it is, the theme is great.

Thank you very much for your kind words, I’m glad you like theme :)
Also, thank you for your suggestions! Regarding the upload – yes, the theme uses the media library, which is great for quick bulk uploading and provides lots of options for the images.
Regarding the sharing – there are lots of sharing plugins that you can install and easily embed into the blog. In the gallery we have added sharing functionality, as it is dynamic and most of the sharing plugins are designed for static content only, but when it comes to the blog you can easily use any sharing plugin.
