Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a "Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

Where can I get the purchased code to access your support?

Why can’t I install the included plugins?

If you can’t install the plugins automatically it’s most likely due to strict server/user permissions. What I would recommend is simply extracting the theme on your computer and uploading the plugins as you normally would.

All the plugins will be inside the “inc > plugins” folder once the theme zip has been extracted.

How can I make my site look like the live demo?

The sample data .xml file is included. You need to download the full package and extract it and it’s inside the “Dummy / Demo” folder. I usually recommend and most developers do this…to create a localhost WordPress installation and upload the sample data there so you can see how the theme works locally then build the live site from scratch so you don’t have any extra “stuff” in there.

If you do want to import the Demo Data to a live site, keep in mind it’s fairly massive so I would recommend importing without the images (you would change these anyway), so it imports quick and doesn’t bring your server “to its knees”.

Why can’t I upload/install the theme?

This theme is fairly larger then most themes out there due to all the included plugins. If you are having troubles installing it is most likely due to your server memory limit.

If it’s a memory limit error you will generally get an error such as “Are you sure you want to do this?”.

These are my suggestions in order of what I think is best:

1. Contact your host to see if they can increase your memory limit to at least 128M and then try re-uploading the theme.

2. Increase your memory limit yourself –

3. The largest portion of the theme is the plugins folder. If you want you can unzip the theme, locate the “plugins” folder and remove all the plugin zips (move them to your desktop so you can install them later), then re-zip and upload the theme. It should be much smaller now and install just fine!

4. As a last resort you can always upload your theme via FTP, I don’t recommend this on most servers though because some servers have issues with file permissions which would require you to also have to fix up file permissions.

How do I upload Sample Data?

Sample Data isn’t automatically added to your site, for most people this wouldn’t be beneficial, instead there are specific files included to import sample data.

When you go to download your purchase click on Download->Main files. After this folder downloads, unzip it and locate the folder called “SampleData”.

Within this folder you will find your sample data file(s).

Before uploading your Sample data you might want to install and activate the recommended plugins (please refer to the documentation) to help prevent any errors after import. To upload your WordPress sample data, log into your WP install and browse to Tools->Import and follow the instructions.

After the import is complete you should have all the posts/pages from the demo with dummy images.

There are certain things a WP import can not do, so after uploading sample data

Go to Appearance->Menu to set your menu locations. Go to Appearance->Widgets to add your widgets (widgets aren’t included in a WordPress export) Set your homepage at Settings->Reading using the “Home” page as a static page. Go to Appearance->Theme Options to setup your theme options.

The Sample Data is taking too long to upload (or it won’t upload), how can I make it faster?

The theme is large so the Sample Data is also large. My suggestion would be to install WordPress locally and load the sample data there. This should download/upload much quicker then on a live server.

Now you can work with the theme locally and make edits much much quicker. Once your site is ready, push it to the live server.

Especially when working on client sites, you should ALWAYS work locally. It will save you a lot of time.

If you can’t work locally, my suggestion would be to try increasing your server memory limit – – and see if that helps.

As a last resort you can always upload the sample data and choose to not import any attachments. This way none of the images will be uploaded to your server and it will upload very very fast. You will be adding your own images anyway, so maybe it’s the best option ;)

How do I setup my homepage, it looks like a blog!

By default WordPress always shows latest posts on the front-page, this is how WordPress works. If you imported the sample data and want to setup one of the homepages from the sample data or simply want to define your own homepage on the front page, please do the following:

I didn’t import sample data:

Create a new page Add your content to the page Publish Browse to Settings -> Reading For “Front page displays” select “A Static Page” Choose the page created earlier for this setting Posts page:” setting should be left blank because you can create your blog page using the “Blog” template. I did import sample data:

Browse to Settings -> Reading For “Front page displays” select “A Static Page” Choose one of the pages imported with the sample data for this setting Posts page:” setting should be left blank because you can create your blog page using the “Blog” template.

How can I make my theme SUPER fast?

The theme is already super well optimized for speed, but of course there are always more you can do, here are some tips (do at your own risk, if you mess something up its not covered in theme support because none of these are theme related):

How can I increase my Google Page Speed Score?

This theme is highly optimized for speed and with every update I try and make it even faster and more optimized. You can see my demo loads really fast even without any CDN or minifying – cool huh?

If you want to increase your Google Score this won’t be on the theme end, this is what you want to do:

To increase your Google score you have to:

1. Setup a CDN – this isn’t done via the theme.
2. Minify your scripts – this should be done via a plugin or sometimes the CDN can do this
3. Setup caching – some servers do this on their own such as (WPEngine). But if your host doesn’t have built-in cache you need to use a plugin.
4. Smush your images – again not done by the them.

How do I use the Revolution Slider Plugin?

Full documentation for the Revolution Slider is included with your purchase, make sure to download the main zip that includes documentation and extract it. You’ll find the docs inside the “Documentation” Folder.

How can I add my languages into my child theme?

Very easy, please have a look at the guide on –

So basically you just have to add your languages into your child theme and then use (add to your child theme’s functions.php) the following function to load it from the child theme instead of the parent:

add_action( 'after_setup_theme', 'my_child_theme_setup' );
function my_child_theme_setup() {
    load_child_theme_textdomain( 'my_child_theme', get_stylesheet_directory() . '/languages' );

How can I change the default title meta tag?

All you need to do is override the default wpex_meta_title() function in your child theme. Below is a basic example:

function wpex_meta_title() { ?>
     <title><?php wp_title('|'); ?></title>
<?php }
