Hey Guys…

is there a way to add pages to the “Display Featured Area” on the top using the “3 way posts widget” ? maybe a short code I can insert somewhere?

Maybe a good idea when you update to have the option for pages to show up in the “Posts – Display the featured area on the homepage” section.

Please let me know if this is possible.

Hi there,

Unfortunately we don’t have an option for that. However you can:

1. Download the plugin called

2. Then go to the featured posts and you’ll see a little box where you can enter a custom url. Insert your page link here :)

My question is about the front page’s information. Obviously the front page is generated dynamically. S when I post a link to facebook for my front page (just to generate traffic to the page, not a specific article), facebook just picks a random recent featured image and a random meta description. Is there a way to set this information? I have tried a social open graph plugin to set this information but I keep coming up short… Any suggestions?

Hi there,

I think you should use a SEO plugin to set your meta description and so on for your homepage. Then i think the open graph plugin will grab that information.

Cool theme! :) Does it work with newest version 3.8.1 ?

Yes it does indeed :)

Is it possible to change the size of the menu (I use the full width option with navigation bar below) ?

Hi there,

If you go to Hickory Options > Custom CSS you should be able to add:

#navigation_bar.layout3 { width:980px; margin:0 auto; }

Sorry I make a mistake, I want to change only the size of the font?

Ah i see, you can do: #navigation ul li a { font-size: }

Is there any way to center the content of the footer widget? I have 3 columns in use, one with a image that is aligned left, but should be centered. Seems like the general style options define it so.

Could you send me a link to your site so i can see this live? :) Thanks

How can I remove the thin border line between the logo and the rest of the page? Or turn it white?

Nothing in the Hickory Options – Appearance page seems to refer to this line.

Hi there,

You can go to Hickory Options > Custom CSS and add:

#header { border-bottom:none; }

Cheers! Love the support here.

You’re welcome! :)

Just purchased the theme and installing it now. But I wanted to do the List Layout option but is it possible to increase the image size thumbnails that are listed? I know the images once you click the post are bigger but the thumbnail images I wanted a bit bigger. Is that possible? If so how do I do that?

Awesome! Did you assign a featured image to the post?

Ahh..ok I understand now. Ok I did it but now since I changed the image thumbnail size the circle play button is off centered – how do I center it? my image size I used is 300×200

Could you add following to Hickory Optios > Custom CSS:

.content.sidebar ul.newsfeed.classic li .item .item-image .item-image-icon { top:70px; left:120px; }

we like your theme and are condsidering using it for multi-author blog. Here are a few pre-sale questions:

1. What is the minimum recommended size for post images in order for everything to look “right” throughout the site (i.e. front-page tile layout etc.)

2. Does the theme come with built-in shortcodes (for example to include smaller images in body text)?

3. Is it possible to implement – through code changes or a plugin – a floating nav bar (a la The Verge et al.)?

4. Using Header Example 2, would it be possible to have a secondary nav or links above the logo (for about us, contact and so on) without doing too much damage?

Thanks, HP

Hi there,

1) A good minimum size would be at least 620×300px. 620 because that’s the width of the content and 300px height because that’s the height of the thumbnails on the homepage in grid layout.

2) We haven’t done any built in shortcodes, since it’s way better to use a plugin for that. We recommend:

3) That’s already possible, there’s an option for that in the Theme Options :)

4) Would take a bit of customization but would definitely be possible!

Hey SoloPine, Felipe from here (We’re using your theme).

Just a feature that could be added, perhaps TABS for the blog style front page? For example, if you check out our website where it says “Fresh” it would be cool to have tabs that when clicked, will show posts within certain categories. (We would use this for categories. So if a tab reads “Electronic” and gets clicked, recent posts from that category will display).

If you can’t add it as a feature, do you guys do side work? It would be a great feature for our website and is something we’re looking to get implemented. is my email if you would like to discuss.

Best theme ever purchased! PHENOMENAL.

Hi Felipe,

Thanks for the suggestion! It’s definitely a great idea, but can’t guarantee that it would be implemented any time soon. I would definitely recommend using, they have great WordPress freelancers who I’m sure could help out, pretty cheap as well.

PS. love you guys work, you make the theme look awesome!

I want to disable the underlined category-text that appears in pictures in the featured posts on the home page. Like on the preview, the three main featured post pictures have “Photography” placed on top of the featured post title.

Hi there,

You can go to Hickory Options > Custom CSS and add:

.threeposts span.category { display:none; }

I am wondering if there’s any way to change the hover color for just one category on tag archive pages.

.tag .item h3 a:hover { color: #FFF!important; }

I know the code above changes the hover color for all h3 titles that are links, but I was wondering if there’s any way to have a specific hover color dependent on the post’s category.

For example, a red hover color for a post in category-book-reviews category, and a green hover for posts in category-movie-reviews, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

You could go to the archive.php file and then on line 114 you could add something like:

<h3><a href="<?php echo get_permalink() ?>" class="<?php echo $category[0]->cat_name; ?>" rel="bookmark"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h3>

this should give the a tag for the title a class with the name of the category. That way you should be able to give specific styles to different categories :)

Thank you!!

Hello there. Beautiful theme!

Wanted to see if there is an easy way to put in a custom header. We’d like something with some texture as opposed to just a flat color.

Please advise. Thank you!

Hi Jessica,

You could go to Hickory Options > Custom CSS and add something like:

#header { background:url( repeat; }

Hello There-

I sent an email from your profile page for the demo xml file. If you could please send it asap that would be great (I’m trying to have site up by tomorrow and functioning). I am curious as to why you don’t include it in the download?

Thank you,

Hi Alicia,

Sent you an email :)

Hi, very happy with the theme, really easy to customize, even though I’m not an HTML expert!!!! There are just little things that I do not understand, and I can not handle:

the link to my site is:

just for explaining it would be a “Video fashion Blog” for “still photographer” who want to move or give a try to videoDSLR…

return to us:

1) As you can see on the footer i have an fatal error message: Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_kses_allowed_html()

2) if you hit a homepage post and go to a post page with sidebar facebook plugin doesn’t work (i’ve done a search in comment but none solving….)

3) on the header i can’t see social icon, only a white dot…

Hi there,

So glad you’re enjoying the theme!

I can see that some of the files are not being loaded and therefor causes an issue. Do you mind sending us an email via the contact form on our profile page with your wp-admin info so we can take a better look at the issues.

hi i’ve sent you the mail as you request…

Replied to your mail!

Is there a way to display certain category pages in more of a standard list-style layout, instead of the grid layout?

Also, have you considered adding woocommerce integration?

Hi there,

Yes you can change between list or grid layout for the category pages in the theme options :)

Unfortunately we don’t have any plans at the moment to add woocommerce support. But I’m sure you could find a freelancer who could help you out. is a great place to find WordPress freelancers :)

Dear SoloPine Team, Fist of all thanks for the great Theme. We love it!

We have three small questions to you:

- How we can remove or change the text: ‘Browsing Category’ - How we can remove or change the text: ‘No widgets added’ - How we can automatic disable/deactivate the function in the CMS “Disable Share Buttons’ and ‘Disable Author Box’.

Many thanks for your help and best regards from Berlin! Radu Lupo

Hi there,

Thank you! 1) If you open up category.php and look on line 28 you’ll see the “Browsing Category” text :) 2) If you go to sidebar.php you can see the text on line 5 3) You can go to single.php and on line 221 change:

<?php if(vp_metabox('hickory_post.show_share_buttons') == 1) : ?>

<?php if(vp_metabox('hickory_post.show_share_buttons') == 0) : ?>

Do the same on 265 for the author box :) Now the options is reversed. So in case you do want the author box and share buttons. You need to check the disable option in the post settings.

hi, question before buying….does the menu bar have an option to be under the logo? thanks

ok scrap that….just saw it in the headers options :)

This will help me tremendously in making the decision to buy your theme. I have a site that is build based on issuem theme and plugin ( This plugin allowed me to build an issue based WordPress magazine.

My question is can the featured area be used to display featured articles that are specific to the issue being viewed or are you locked in to the same content displayed no matter which issue is being viewed?

Thank you

Hi Nahoul,

You would most likely need to do some customization to the featured area. I have no experience with the Issuem plugin, so it’s hard to say how easy it would be to make it work, unfortunately.

Thank you for your response. Adding such functionality would make the theme complete. I highly recommend looking Ito it.

1) I would like to have control of the text that accompanies the preview of a post. Standard is that it just takes the first XX words of a posts body text.

2) I’d like to be able to put in an intro statement for each post. This could be mirrored in 1)

3) I want to disable the author and date on my post previews. I managed this with entering .item span.item_meta { display:none; } in the custom csss field, but it seem to leave the space open, not filling it with text – -which makes it look odd. I havent found how to adjust the text – ref 1) and 2)

Thanks to SoloPine for excellent reply-rate!

Hi there,

1,2) You can enter a custom excerpt :) When you edit/add a post click screen options at the top right corner of your screen and then check “excerpt”, this will a new new box further down where you can enter a custom excerpt text.

3) Do you mean there’s too much space at the bottom after doing that? you could fix that by adding:

.content .newsfeed li { margin-bottom:30px }

I installed the theme on wordpress 3.8.1 and installed all that was needed, followed the steps etc etc. I was creating posts to setup a mock site. Then I viewed the main page to see how the site looked, it looked good, clicked on New > Post up at the top and I got this error:

Warning: Creating default object from empty value in /public_html/testblog/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 494

and now all my posts have disappeared on the backend, but they’re still showing on the main page? I’m confused. any help?

Ok, the posts are showing on the homepage, but when i go to look at the post it’s gone. i tried switching to the default wp theme, but still the same issue with the same error.

Hi there,

Sounds like you might have an error in your WordPress installation. The warning is also referring to an WordPress file. I’d recommend you try doing a fresh install of WordPress.
