Hello Webmandesign
I have a few questions as we are considering buying this template for a reputed agency in Canada who may also be audited for WCAG compliance.
Can you please answer our concerns,
1. We tried to run the Icelander template through achecker.ca but it shows 4 known issues and 350 potential issues, why do we see issues if its WCAG compliant. https://themedemos.webmandesign.eu/icelander
Achecker link we used – https://achecker.achecks.ca/checker/index.php
2. Can you share polyclinic’s demo link we can use in the achecker, I am not sure why was it hard to find it.
3. Is there any other checker we can use also?
4. Is the theme compatible with elementor?
5. Lastly, what do you suggest we should do right if we need a 15 pages corporate website which would not be updated very often. Good to ask this from an expert like you in the initial stages
Regards Sahil
Hi Sahil,
Thank you for your interest in my themes
- First, please note AChecker is not very reliable accessibility evaluation tool. I’m not sure what 4 issues have AChecker reported for you, but when I check the theme demo website homepage with it, it throws me 3 “Known Problems”, 1 “Likely Problems” and 351 “Potential Problems”.
The 3 “Known Problems” are related to false positive resolved at support forum.
The 1 “Likely Problems” is again a false positive where AChecker thinks a paragraph is a heading.
The other “Potential Problems” are issues AChecker as an automated tool can not evaluate and human evaluation is needed here. This is a problem with all automated evaluation tools though.
For information about how to evaluate your website for accessibility please read my knowledge base article.
- You may have issues with an iFrame ThemeForest places around the demo websites. If you want to visit direct link to my theme demos, you can find all of them at https://themedemos.webmandesign.eu/
If you are considering other accessibility ready themes, I strongly suggest checking out my more recent, modern ones.
- You can get more info about this in aforementioned knowledge base article.
- All of my themes work with any page builder. You can check “FAQ & Tips” section in a specific theme documentation for more info about the specific theme compatibility (→ Francesca theme example).
All of my modern themes are even compatible with Elementor Pro Theme Builder functionality.
However, please keep in mind that demo content was not created with Elementor page builder and thus you will need to build your own content if using this page builder.
- I’m sorry, please understand that I don’t have enough information about your website project to provide any useful tip here. Also, please understand that I do not provide consultancy work, though I’m happy to answer any of your questions in https://support.webmandesign.eu/ If you want a speedy website and all you need is to use WordPress pages, I suggest using one of my modern themes. They are very fast (using more modern codebase and browser optimization techniques), even better optimized for accessibility, and most of all they are fully compatible with WordPress native drag-&-drop block editor (Gutenberg), so you don’t even need to use a page builder. Plus you can always push your website speed to the limits with more optimization.
In case of any additional questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
Best regards,
Oliver
Thanks a lot, much appreciated. I will share this with our team and might have some more questions for you. However, the one that is crucial and struck me is… suppose the potential problems were checked by a team (we have a testing team) what are the chances that the issues found would require a core theme code change?
I specifically ask this because in another theme our team found WCAG issues which required core theme code changes even in its raw state. This is something we want to avoid because its almost impossible to tell the author to change codes in theme files and doing it ourselves is dangerous and expensive.
Hi Sahil,
If you find a theme specific accessibility issue, I will fix it in next theme update for sure. I always do that, though, please note that my accessibility ready themes are out for some years already and no accessibility issues were reported by customers in recent months/year
Also, all of my themes are child theme ready so you can modify any aspect of the theme without fear of loosing your modifications. https://webmandesign.github.io/docs/francesca/index.html#child-theme
Best regards,
Oliver
Hey Oliver, we had an internal conversation amongst our team and we are going to buy a theme from your portfolio. I want to ask you a question before we do this. The more modern themes you have and we like are “Deborah” & “Francesca”, however, can you give us a reason why you wouldn’t recommend “Icelander” your more matured product with maximum sales on TF.
The reason I ask this is because Icelander’s demo content and genre is close to what we want whereas we love Deborah & Francesca, but their demo content is totally unrelatable. I thought this was an important question before hitting “buy”, even though I understand that I can always convert any theme’s look and feel as I see fit.
Hi ahujasahil,
Thank you for deciding to use one of my themes. Please understand that I am not against using Icelander theme – I am not not-recommending it
I promote my more recent themes because of the reasons I mentioned in my original reply to you. For me the most stand out features are PHP7+ code which is more performant and secure and full block editor (Gutenberg) compatibility. With Francesca theme you also get useful block patterns and styles (you can add block styles to other themes using my Abs plugin if needed).
Icelander has the most sales, indeed, but the theme is older (have a look at the date of release to compare) and also price makes the difference, I’d say, and I can’t really speak about customers preference, so it seems Icelander hits the sweet spot
But you can go with any of my accessibility ready themes. If you like Icelander, go ahead and use that theme. I just wanted to point out that I also have more modern themes in my portfolio already.
However, like I’ve mentioned, please note that Icelander’s demo content was built with classic WordPress editor and Beaver Builder page builder. If you want to use Elementor page builder, you will need to build your own content even with Icelander theme. (And the same applies for all of my themes, actually as I don’t use Elementor personally. See my original reply and links I’ve shared for more info.)
As for genre, all of my themes are multipurpose. You can build whatever website with them.
Best regards,
Oliver
Hey Oliver, Got you and I shared this with the Managers & Directors as well. They wanted me to ask you another question to avoid any surprises in future.
Would you be able to tell us of the templates which companies are working with these templates in Canada?
Hi ahujasahil,
Please understand that I do not collect such information about my customers.
Try to search support forum, maybe you will find something useful there https://support.webmandesign.eu/
Best regards,
Oliver
Hi,
I am new to your theme, sorry! Could you help me with a couple of thing below:
1. Is it possible to have a side bar on single post pages but not on the main news/blog page? 2. Is it possoble to remove the intro bit off the main news/blog page? 3. Show Featured Image on Recent Posts Module?
Your help would be appreciated.
cheers
Hi mememedia14,
- Yes. You can control sidebar display with a sidebar management plugin. Check out info in theme documentation (with a specific example).
- This is possible using custom CSS:
.blog .intro-container { display: none; }
- Not entirely sure what you mean here. If you are using Beaver Builder page builder, it should allow you to enable/disable featured images for Posts module. If you mean some other module, please log a support ticket at https://support.webmandesign.eu/ and provide more info, screenshot and URL to affected page.
Tip: “Theme Anatomy” section in theme documentation provides a useful resource for many issues/questions.
Also, please note that I provide support at https://support.webmandesign.eu/
Best regards,
Oliver
Hi, Sorry I’m new to your theme, could you tell me where I can set site wide styles for the text, H1, H2, H3 etc incuding font size and weight and colour etc. So I dont have to do it on each and every piece of text. cheers
Hi mememedia14,
The theme has harmoniously set up heading sizes and you can not change each individual one via theme options (all typography related theme options can be found at Appearance → Customize → Theme Options → Typography).
Colors can be changed in each color section of theme options in Appearance → Customize → Theme Options.
If you need to change styles for each individual heading tag, please log a support ticket at https://support.webmandesign.eu/ where I can provide thorough help.
Basically, you should be able to change heading styles by applying custom CSS like:h2 { font-size: 20px; font-weight: 400; }
Best regards,
Oliver
Arh ok, I’ll do that, I actually just wanted to make the H1 tag a bit bigger overall. I appeciate your not supposed to use finite sizes for accessibility reasons but from a design point of view I think the H1 could be a bit bigger!
Hello! Why have you made the class “hide-accessibly”? I see that it hides section titles if you are not editing the page with the builder, I don’t understand why. Thank you
Hi iparres,
If you mean the hide-accessibly
helper class, this is purely content class and you can either use it or not, depending on your needs. You can hide certain section titles/headings with this class so the heading is not visible to users, but the structure of the document is intact and heading structure is kept hierarchical. Using this helper CSS class is really up to you.
Additionally the theme uses screen-reader-text
class which is a WordPress requirement and is used to hide main page title in certain cases – more about this in “Headings Hierarchy” section of theme documentation at https://webmandesign.github.io/docs/icelander/index.html#accessibility
Please note that I provide support via https://support.webmandesign.eu/
Best regards,
Oliver
Hello,
I purchased your theme a few days ago and i installed it in my wordpress but i cannot see any content like photos, title, pages etc. I can only see a blank page with a landscape image and text . I would like to ask, if in these theme i have to create the pages from the scratch or i made a wrong installation because i thought i would have the same pages and layouts as yours example template .
Thank you in advance.
Hi gxatzistefanou,
Thank you for your purchase!
Themes do not force installation of a demo content. That would be a bad practice, actually.
If you want a demo content, you can import it after theme installation. Check theme documentation at https://webmandesign.github.io/docs/icelander/index.html#demo-content for more info.
Best regards,
Oliver
Hi, are there plugins for changing the contrast or font size installed in the template by default, because I did not find anything like this on the demo?
Hi romicore,
Thank you for your interest in my theme
There is no need for such tools on truly accessible website, actually. But if you need such solution, please use some plugins. For more info please check knowledge base article at https://support.webmandesign.eu/accessibility-tools/
On the other hand, if you are asking about changing color and typography of the theme itself, this can be done in theme options (in Appearance → Customize).
Best regards,
Oliver
hello, can I use this theme for many non-profit websites?
Hi dogancancavuslu,
Thank you for your interest in Icelander theme
Yes, you can use the theme for any type of website. Please note though that you will need to buy a new theme license for every domain you use the theme on (check ThemeForest licensing options at https://themeforest.net/licenses/standard).
I also invite you to check out my newer themes that are fully compatible with block editor, so no page builder is needed. They provide better accessibility and speed optimization too. https://www.webmandesign.eu/project-tag/modern-themes/
Best regards,
Oliver
What is your latest version number? I’m taking over the clients site and would like to buy a license to get the latest updates and I can’t find what is your theme latest version number, where is this information?
Hi,
The latest version of Icelander theme is 1.6.1. If your client is using Icelander theme, they should already have a purchase code you can use to update the theme (https://webmandesign.github.io/docs/icelander/#update-auto).
The theme also lets you know via WordPress dashboard that there is a new update available. (This may not apply if your theme version is very old though.)
For update info I aslo suggest following me on Facebook and/or Twitter https://www.webmandesign.eu/contact/
Best regards,
Oliver
Hi, I purchased and updated to newest version and the logo stopped to be clickable on home page only. When I inspect the code, there is on other pages but home page adds span instead of a. Do you know what is it?
Hi OxFlick,
Thank you for your purchase
The new updates of the theme contain accessibility improvements including the one you mention (this functionality was actually introduced in WordPress 5.5).
Is there any particular reason why you need your homepage site logo to be a link? The link URL is actually pointing to homepage, so there is no need for such link there.
If you need to enable the link, please log a support ticket at https://support.webmandesign.eu/ where I’ll be able to provide more help.
Best regards,
Oliver
Hi Oliver, I created account and submitted topic on the support forum you provided, however, in my tickets I don’t see my submitted question. I would like to have a logo clickable on the home page, it’s a wide practice. If you go to Microsoft website home page, their logo is clickable, same with Apple and other websites. Please make it optional and not forced. Thank you.
Hi,
Have you received any error when submitting a support ticket? Can you please log a ticket again?
Please understand that logo link on homepage is a matter of preference. From accessibility point of view it makes sense to disable the link. That’s why this functionality was introduced in WordPress.
You can enable the link again using this PHP code in your child theme’s functions.php
file:
add_action( 'after_setup_theme', function() { add_theme_support( 'custom-logo' ); // Removing any attributes. }, 100 );
(More info about this WordPress functionality at https://make.wordpress.org/core/2020/07/28/themes-changes-related-to-get_custom_logo-in-wordpress-5-5/ )
Best regards,
Oliver
Hi,
I want to build pages within Visual Composer, yet im having troubles with displaying it full width. It keeps displaying it on 50% of the page. If i switch it to Beaver builder it works oke!
Hi,
First, please check theme documentation information for how to set page layout for a page builder: https://webmandesign.github.io/docs/icelander/#any-page-builder
If it does not help, please log a support ticket at https://support.webmandesign.eu/
Best regards,
Oliver
Are you going to update theme in future? Or should I search something more compatible? Wp has been changed but your last theme update is February 21’st, 2021… Old… So I’m wondering if I should buy theme or look for other ?
Hi pawgaw,
Thank you for your interest in my theme
Yes, the new theme update is on my todo list. Currently updating all my themes, starting from most recent ones.
However, please note that theme update frequency does not really say anything about the product. Even WordPress native themes are not updated that often. Icelander is an old theme and have many bugs already fixed, so there is no need to release new updates that often. It should work with new WordPress 5.9 without issues too (at least I have not experience any issue and no issue was reported either).
As the Icelander is an older theme, it does not support WordPress block editor (Gutenberg) advanced features. If you are looking for Gutenberg compatible, more accessibility and speed optimized theme, I suggest checking out one of my modern themes.
Best regards,
Oliver
Hi, is it possible to open a dropdown menu by clicking on a specific item in the menu instead of opening it on hover?
regards, Igor
Hi Igor,
Sorry, this is not possible out of the box. It would require JavaScript coding to make this modification to theme.
Please note that I provide support via https://support.webmandesign.eu/
Best regards,
Oliver
Hi Oliver again ..How can I remove images from the header, ie put smart slider 3 instead? I understand removing them but I can’t find a way where I can insert the code from smart slider 3 to be at the same level as the current images in the header?
Hi,
Please log a support ticket at https://support.webmandesign.eu/ Also, please provide a screenshot and URL to affected page.
Thank you and best regards,
Oliver
How to change the Icelander theme section below the header. Eg. on the pages Pages-> About us & History so this text in the red section “About Us & History” as well as to the right of it “We offer top services …” can I do it manually or at least in a script through cpanel? thank you
I find it .. regards
Hi,
I’m glad you were able to resolve the issue.
I’m not really sure from your question, which sections you mean though. For the future, please log a support ticket at https://support.webmandesign.eu/ and provide a screenshot and URL to affected page so I can assist in more details.
You can also check helpful “Anatomy” section in theme documentation for how to edit each section of the theme: https://webmandesign.github.io/docs/icelander/#anatomy Everything else can be found in your website content and plugins.
Best regards,
Oliver
Hey, I just installed theme and imported your demo content. I did an achecker test and it is full of errors. Any explanation about that? Thanks in advance.
Hi webstrategist7,
Thank you for your purchase!
Could you please provide more information about the errors AChecker throws? Are they related to the theme or to content and plugins?
Please log a support ticket https://support.webmandesign.eu/ explaining the issue in more detail and provide URL to affected page so I can check personally. Maybe a screenshot of the AChecker test would help.
I also strongly suggest reading https://support.webmandesign.eu/accessibility/ knowledge base article as it contains relevant information. AChecker has proven to be unreliable outdated accessibility evaluation tool throwing a lots of false positives. Though you should not get many errors, just a few (others might be warnings requiring human check).
Thanks and regards,
Oliver
Does the theme is fully compliant with ADA 2.1 AA ? Does it supports ARIA tags ? Plugins to change fonts size/contrast, keyboard ready, or virtual keyboard, etc ?
Hi nocloo,
Thank you for your interest in my theme
Does the theme is fully compliant with ADA 2.1 AA ?
You probably mean WCAG 2.1 level AA accessibility guidelines. If so, yes, the theme passes these guidelines. You can evaluate accessibility of theme demo website with online tools too.
Does it supports ARIA tags ?
If you mean ARIA roles and attributes, yes, these are used in theme where necessary.
Plugins to change fonts size/contrast
In my opinion these are not needed for truly accessible websites as all of those things can be done natively in browser and/or operating system. The theme supports those. If you really need to add such functionality, use plugins.
keyboard ready, or virtual keyboard
Yes, the theme is keyboard friendly/ready.
Tip: Feel free to check out my newer themes as they are more optimized for performance (and arguably even for accessibility) and they contain full support for native WordPress block editor (Gutenberg) alongside supporting any page builder.
Best regards,
Oliver
I was very happy with the theme and may purchase again for another project, an animal rescue shelter. But not sure what home page and portfolio styles to use to feature the dogs and cats. Any suggestions?
Hi snapcreative,
Thank you for using my theme and for considering it for another project
Please note that I can’t really answer your question as it really depends on the project itself and I’d need to get familiar with the project to recommend something specific. But I’d say any portfolio style would work in this case. (I personally love the compact portfolio style.)
However, I strongly suggest checking out my newer themes as they fully support WordPress block editor (Gutenberg) and are more optimized for speed. Plus they are even better fit for page builders too.
Good luck with your website projects and thank you again for choosing my products!
Best regards,
Oliver
Thank you for a great theme. I do have one question, though. How can I resize the header on the posts? I need to make the features image shorter. Still just as wide, but cropped so that it doesn’t take that much of the screen. Thank you!
Hi @luisawinters,
Thank you, I’m glad you like the theme
There are multiple approaches to resolving the issue, if I understand it correctly. One is using custom CSS, another one is with PHP code in your child theme. Or maybe a “No intro” page template with custom header design in your post content would do, but this would be done for each post, so it’s not really a global solution.
Could you please log a support ticket at https://support.webmandesign.eu/ and provide screenshot and possibly also URL to affected page so I can provide more assistance?
Thank you and best regards,
Oliver
Hi, is this theme compatible with the Divi builder?
Hi,
Thank you for your interest in my theme
I’ve never tested the theme with Divi Builder, but I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t work. https://webmandesign.github.io/docs/icelander/#any-page-builder
In case of any issue I’m more than happy to provide help at https://support.webmandesign.eu/
Best regards,
Oliver
Thanks for the reply, I’ll check it out
i want to buy your theme but before i buy it i want to know -what builder you use like ux builder? -is there a refund if i have issues? -and the most important is it passing accessibility WCAG 2.0 AA ?
Hi GiannisKim13,
Thank you for your interest in my theme
Here are answers to your questions:
- I’m not sure I understand your question. The theme does not contain any builder/UX builder. Do you mean a page builder? With my themes you can use whatever page builder you like or are familiar with. The demo content (and so the demo website) of this theme was built with native WordPress editor and also with Beaver Builder page builder (that one is used on most pages which can be identified via menu on theme demo website).
- Yes, I provide refunds within 14 days if you meet conditions as stated in ThemeForest refund policy.
- Yes, like I mention in theme description this is fully accessibility ready WordPress theme and you are able to create WCAG 2.1 AA compliant websites with it.
Best regards,
Oliver
I invite you to check out my newer themes such as Angelica, Björk, Cindy, Deborah or Eimear.
All of these new themes are fully WooCommerce compatible (Cindy and Deborah with a help of additional plugin for better design integration), they all are accessibility ready. And unlike my older themes, they are built purely on PHP7+ code and use modern browser optimization techniques to speed up loading times. Also, they are fully WordPress block editor (Gutenberg) compatible, so no need for a page builder (but of course, they all work with any page builder too). And yet, they are even easier to use than my older themes.
But please don’t get me wrong, this theme is perfectly fine too The main difference is that this theme is not 100% compatible with WordPress block editor (Gutenberg). But if you are used to use a page builder, it doesn’t really matter anyway. In that case choose a theme that makes more sense for you design-wise.
Best regards,
Oliver
Hey guys! Great work!
Here are a few questions.
- Can we create our own modules with Beaver Builder? Or we have to limit ourselves with your templates?
- Can we use WPML for translation (french/english)? Or Polylang is recommended?
- Can we use a transparent header becoming white sticky one when the user scrolls?
Thank you for your help!
neuhaus3000
Hi neuhaus3000,
Thank you, I’m glad you are interested in my themes
Can we create our own modules with Beaver Builder?
Please understand that Beaver Builder is a 3rd party software and I can only provide support for my products. For creating fully custom modules for Beaver Builder please check the plugin documentation.
Or we have to limit ourselves with your templates?
No, not at all. You are free to use whatever templates/layouts you want and you can surely built your own ones. The demo templates that comes with theme demo content are just a demo example.
And if you are familiar with different page builder, you can use whatever page builder with the theme.
Can we use WPML for translation (french/english)? Or Polylang is recommended?
Theme works with both. You are free to use whatever multilingual plugin you prefer, not even one of these. The theme is fully localization ready, so it should handle them all.
Can we use a transparent header becoming white sticky one when the user scrolls?
This should be possible using some additional custom CSS that I can help with at https://support.webmandesign.eu.
Tip: I invite you to check out my newer themes such as Angelica, Björk, Cindy, Deborah and Eimear. They all are multipurpose themes and are much more optimized as they are built on modern PHP7+ code only, leverage modern browser speed optimization techniques and on top of that are fully compatible with WordPress block editor (Gutenberg). And yet are even easier to use than my older themes.
Best regards,
Oliver
Thank you for your quick response! Great, I will look into the other theme options. Kind Regards.
I mean, if you are looking for an accessibility ready theme, feel free to use any of my themes https://www.webmandesign.eu/project-tag/accessibility-ready/ They all work perfectly fine and choose the one that fits your project the most. The main difference between new and old themes is the full block editor compatibility.
Ok great! The website I will be building (french/english) is for a foundation for children with multiple disabilities. I think that Deborah is the best theme for them. Is there a way that I can send you a design for you to approve regarding the possibilities before I submit it to my client? Ex: tell me if my design is possible with the theme? Thank you again! Great Work!
Hi,
Please note that I can not really approve nor disapprove your design
However, you can sent me the design (in JPG or PNG file) via contact form at https://themeforest.net/user/webmandesign#contact. I will definitely be able to advice you which of my accessibility ready themes is capable of that design with least effort.
(The form does not allow you to attach files, so you can use some cloud storage such as Dropbox or any other alternative you prefer and share the file with me then. Just put the file share URL into your text in the contact form.)
Best regards,
Oliver
That’s great! Thank you again for your collaboration!
Hello Oliver. Here are some more questions…
1. If I will be adding WooCommerce (shop section), which of your theme would be better to use with Woo?
2. In your themes, are you using a lightbox plugin for videos and images?
3. Can I have news and events excerpts on the homepage?
4. Can I use WPForms or Gravity Forms are preffered?
5. Are your themes here to stay? Will they be maintained for a long time?
Thank you again for your collaboration!
neuhaus3000
Hi neuhaus3000,
-
Please use any of my WooCommerce compatible themes. (Actually, WooCommerce works with any theme nowadays, it’s just that design might be off with incompatible themes.)
However, I suggest choosing one of my newer themes Angelica, Björk, Cindy, Deborah or Eimear.
But feel free to choose any WooCommerce ready theme I provide. Everything depends on your (design) needs.
- Themes does not have any such functionality, please use a plugin for that.
- Sure. For events please use a plugin.
- Use whatever form plugin you like.
- I have no plan to go anywhere. I am actually working on my new themes already.
Best regards,
Oliver
