Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a "Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

What Do I Do Before I Submit A Support Ticket?

  • Make sure you are running the latest version of Kalium and the latest version of WordPress.
  • Check our Documentation for the answer to your question.
  • Disable any additional 3rd party plugins (plugins that don’t come with our theme) you may be using to see if it fixes the issue. (See how)
  • If you cannot find the answer to your question, please head to our dedicated support center and our support team will help.

Recommended PHP Configuration Limits

Many issues you may run into such as; white screen, demo content fails when importing, empty page content and other similar issues are all related to low PHP configuration limits. The solution is to increase the PHP limits. You can do this on your own, or contact contact your web host and ask them to increase those limits to a minimum as follows:

max_execution_time 120
memory_limit 128M
post_max_size 64M
upload_max_filesize 64M
max_input_time 60
max_input_vars 3000
How To Verify Your Current PHP Limits?

You can verify your PHP configuration limits on Kalium theme by just going to your WordPress dashboard > Laborator > System Status.

Alternative method: You can check your PHP configuration limits them by installing the FastDev plugin and then going to Wordpress dashboard > Fastdev > and choose PHP tab to compare your server info (see example). The first column (Local) refers to your installation value, and the second column (Master) refers to the limits of your host. The latter values are often lower if you have selected a cheaper hosting package. Learn How to upgrade PHP version and increase server limits.

In most cases, you cannot update the PHP version yourself and need to contact your host about this. The upgrade process is an easy process and should be something your host can do for you without impacting your website or charging you a fee. Here’s a letter you can send to your hosting company (sample)

How to get “Purchase Codes” about premiums plugins included in our themes?

Theme authors not allowed to include the purchase codes for the premium plugins we include (with extended license) in our themes.

However, you don’t have to be worried about this fact, From version 2.6.1 of Kalium we have implemented “Remote plugins updates” so you no longer need to wait for theme updates to get the latest version of bundled plugins, you’ll get plugin updates right after their release so to update them you just need to go to Appearance > Install Plugins area.

Each theme update will contain the latest version for premium plugins inside the installation files.

You never need to purchase any premium plugins that comes with our theme, you can purchase them only if you need their support or want to use their extra features.

Custom CSS is not being applied

While using the theme you would want to have your own custom styling and settings, so to modify and customize the theme on your own needs you need the Custom CSS, a question many users have when using the Custom CSS is that their CSS is not being applied, sometimes you will need to add an extra rule at the end of each value – the !important rule, let’s see this example:

body {
    background: #000 !important;
}

Important – use valid CSS only, you may want to validate your styles before saving

Changing the Portfolio Items order

You can change the ordering of Portfolio Items easily by using the Post Types Order plugin, install and activate it, manage the ordering easily by dragging the titles of the items and don’t forget to Save all changes.

I can’t filter my categories in “Build Query” it won’t let me type!

When using the Build Query option in WPBakery Page Builder you will want to filter your Portfolio Items by category, the Categories field won’t work if you want to filter the items by category so what you need to do is type in the Taxonomies field instead of categories.

Ordering the Portfolio Categories in Filter

Ordering the categories in the Filter of Portfolio Items cannot be done directly through WordPress or the Theme Options, you can do it by using a plugin named Category Order and Taxonomy Terms Order, then you an simply Drag and Drop the categories of Portfolio that will appear in the Portfolio Filter.

Adding Portfolio and Blog categories to the menu

To add Portfolio and Blog categories to the menu go through Appearance > Menus, navigate at the top right of the screen and click on the Screen Options and make sure you’ve ticked the Portfolio Categories or Categories, now you will be able to add categories directly to your menu.
