Hello. I installed your theme here:
For some reason, none of the footer widgets are appearing, nor anything I put into the “Sidebar” widget.
When I view the source code, it appears that the footer is not loading (the source code just ends at a “div clear” with not closing tag.
Do you have any idea what could be the problem?
I’m running WP 3 .2.1 and have deactivated all plugins.
Thanks so much!
I’ve answered your e-mail. Please check what i’ve pointed out and get back to me so we can get this sorted.
The post displays everything on the front page. How can I “Customize the Read More button’ Please step by step details.
The correct way to do this would be to insert a read more tag from your wysiwyg editor when writing the post. Insert it at the point where you would like the text to be cut off and then just before the read more tag you can insert a link manually linking to the post if you like. Also, both the title and the image will link to the full post.
Hi, I have tried <!-more-> etc tec, but still. What is the code, or how does the ‘insert a read more tag’ Icon look?
That should work. Or see this: http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
Insert <!-more-> tag in post, just can’t get any text/link to show up after the excerpt to lead to the full post.
The first post “Evolution of Home Based Business Models” is the one I’m using to test.
That’s correct. As i mentioned in my first reply to your question:
“you can insert a link manually linking to the post if you like”
This is a custom post excerpt code that i have in the file which strips out all formatting. If you read within the index.php file you will see that i have kept in tact the original post excerpt code which you can uncomment if you would like to display it this way. I would simply create a link manually as mentioned above but it’s up to the buyer that’s why i’ve left the original code there.
Nice theme. Some questions. Is there a cache somewhere I can clear (preferably remove or turn off entirely) I had the theme switcher working fine. then I went to change a pic below the header it would not refresh. When I viewed the image it was in some “Tim Thumb” so I renamed it and that worked. Then everything went haywire and no switching. I disabled all plugins, Re-installed WordPress Mobile Pack. and still no luck. I also had put in the wrong twitter rss name and got that working but when I put in the right one, tweets from the old one still keep showing.
Also (and this may be related to the cache issue) if I put a widget on the desktop it shows in the mobile and vice verse. I want separate widgets on both if that is possible. Also when I try to add mobile widgets it takes me to a page that does not exist.
Last thing. I know there has been discussion about truncating the posts on the front page. I would like to accomplish that automatically if possible as I don’t want to have really short intros on the desktop version that I would get using a “read more” tag
I really want to keep using my existing blog the way I have and deliver a lightened version without the widgets on mobile. I think the cache may be the problem. any thoughts?
OK I think I worked out the “cache thingy” I must have hit the change to desktop by accident because I found it and switched back (3 hrs later ugh)
OK so if I can selectively use or hide all widgets. (and hopefully globally truncate all front page posts) I am off to the races.
If you look within the index.php file you’ll see that i’ve left in the default code which wordpress uses to display the content of the post:
<?php the_excerpt(); ?>
Simply comment out the custom excerpt code and un-comment the default WordPress one and it should work as normal. Note: the reason i’ve done this is because of the width of the theme which leads to a lot of scrolling if the excerpt is not truncated manually or at an earlier point and is left at the default. Of course this is up to the buyer so I’ll leave it up to you to decide.
As for the widgets and having only certain ones displayed on the mobile theme. What i would suggest is to insert the widgets by embedding them within the sidebar.php file – this way you will have more control over them rather than just relying on the widget window to add and remove widgets. You’ll see the area to place these is clearly marked out within the sidebar.php file.
Is there a newer copy than what is in the evanto download? My index.php has nothing even close to that.
The files in the download should be the latest.
My bad, it’s not the_excerpt you should be looking for it’s the_content.
On line 26 in the index.php file you should see the following div:
There’s a comment there that explains what you need to do. If you’re still having difficulties locating it send me an email via my den page and i’ll send you through the index.php file.
Is it possible to show a “page” on the home page instead of the most recent post? I’m using this for a business website, not a blog, so showing the most recent post is a problem.
I’m not much of a coder so if you could provide step-by-step instructions I would appreciate it.
Other than that it’s a great theme!
This is possible but will require a bit of work to get done. I’ll give it a shot over the weekend and send you the updates – if you could email me your details from my profile page.
If you want to attempt it yourself have a read through this to help get you started: http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page
One more thing: I’ve read the comments about how choosing which pages appear in the dropdown menu is “easy if you’re using menus within WP 3 .0”. But that doesn’t seem to be the case.
I created a menu specific for the mobile theme and assigned it to that theme. When I activate the dotMobi theme I see the menu I created without a problem on both my computer and my smart phone. However, I am using Mobile Switcher and when I switch back to my primary theme it changes the menu that appears on my smart phone. Instead of the mobile menu I see a list of every page. So it’s not even using the menu from my main theme. It’s like it isn’t detecting any menu at all with the main theme activated so it’s just giving me every single page. This is a bad thing.
Can you provide some explanation for why this is happening and a solution to it?
That sounds like it’s being caused by the switcher so is out of my league. Perhaps you could follow this up in their support forums for a solution.
It will probably display very poorly on a mobile phone.
How can this be fixed?
Also when I install XHTML for WP, the theme fails to display.
This theme works perfectly well with smartphone browsers regardless of what the mobiready site says. The result you’re getting is due to the fact that it’s a WordPress site and most of the markup that WordPress spews out is invalid on it’s own.
Regarding the XHTML for WP – i assume that’s a plugin? I’m not aware of that and not sure what it does so it’s hard to pin point what the issue could be. I would recommend contacting the plugin developer and asking for their opinion. dotMobi is a basic WP theme and there should be no reason as to why it wouldn’t work with another plugin UNLESS that plugin has issues.
Can you please help me
My wordrpess theme for computer version uses the “featured image” to display the thumbnails of each post, and I wanted to use your theme to have the same structure on mobile phones, how can i make this happen? please help me or your theme won’t work for me
I didn’t know this theme doesn’t use featured image
How can I found you? I sent you messages everywhere, I found other mobile template that works for me I need a refund for this template this is not going to work for me and you didn’t answer me back
Sorry to hear this didn’t work for you. Before making a purchase you should ask, or at least take the time to read through the description and comments. It’s quite simple to get the featured image to work with this theme but seeing as you “found other mobile template that works” then i would recommend you get in touch with TF support regarding a refund as it’s up to them whether or not you qualify for one.
OK, can you please explain me how to get the featured image to work?
I do bought another one but, that one seems to not work the menu now :/
Can you help me? its just that I’m in a rush and with a deadline to this monday
Im sorry for the inconvenience
I’ve responded by e-mail to your request. Try and reply to that address as i have access to it whilst I’m on the move and you’ll get quicker responses that way.
Great plugin! This is the first time I’ve worked with a mobile theme before, so apologies if this is an easy one.
I usually use NextGen Gallery for images in my sites, and was wondering if this is a good choice with dotMobi? Or are there better image galleries for mobile out there? Just need a simple gallery or slider.
I haven’t actually explored the use of galleries with mobile themes enough to be able to provide you with much help. Something i do suggest however is finding a plugin that integrates touch gestures. Something like Touch Gallery (http://neteye.github.com/touch-gallery.html) or PhotoSwipe (http://www.photoswipe.com/) would be brilliant if integrated into a WP gallery plugin.
I’ll add this to my To-do list and try to research it a bit more in the coming days. If you do manage to come across anything i would appreciate if you could update me on what you’ve found regarding this as well.
Hi Peter, nice theme. I bought it yesterday and unfortunately I can’t make the menus work as I need them to work. I could change the name of the menus using your PHS image files but now I need to link these three menus to three different main pages. I read the WP instructions and created the static first page but now I can’t see your nice menus anymore, and I can’t see more than one page name at the top, even if I created the other two main pages as well. I’m not a coder and I would appreciate if you can send me the code I need to add so the menus would go to the pages I select.
Those three tabs are basically the navigation for the accordion type effect which you can see in the default theme. It would need a bit more work in order to get this to only show a static page and then to link to two other pages. It seems i’ve received a few requests for this mod so I’ll actually build it in as an option. I’ll only be able to get to this over the weekend and will post updates here.
Send me a message from my profile page and i’ll be sure to send you the files once they’re done.
I went to my profile page but I don’t find the way to send you a message. Please send me a link to the page from where I can send you the reminder.
pd. I checked below the option to receive replies to my comment but I’m afraid this feature is not working because I didn’t get any email.
Go to this URL : http://themeforest.net/user/pedrodonkey and in the bottom right hand corner you’ll see the “E-mail Pedrodonkey” box. Send me a message using that and i’ll be able to reply directly to your e-mail when i have something to send to you.
Re: the replies notification, perhaps you should report this as a bug to support.
I sent you already a message a week ago. When do you think the feature with the three tabs will be available?
I apologize for the delay but as i had mentioned i was on the move when you had initially asked for this modification and i am still overseas so it’s a bit difficult to focus on this change. I’ve almost completed it though and i will send you an e-mail with the modified files as soon as they’re done rather than waiting for them to be approved through the upload queue.
does this include a search.php file?
It does indeed include a search.php file.
is it posiable to run my web-shop (WP e-commece) from woothemes on with this program?
And for customers to pay with creditcards on the site?
It’s hard to say without having used wp e-commerce before. If it helps in any way, this theme is pretty much the same as a normal desktop theme – just “shrunk down” to be able to fit on a mobile device screen better. I’m sure that what ever theme you decide to go with you will need to make some sort of adjustments until you get it to work correctly.
As for payments, i don’t see why this shouldn’t work as long as you have payments set up.
Perhaps you’ll be able to get a better explanation from the plugin author.
If I am using a theme that has shortcodes – will the shortcodes display properly on the dot mobi theme?
I would personally contact the author of your main theme and ask them this question as it depends on the complexity of the SC’s, how they’re integrated into your main theme and what their depedancies are.
The configuration of Tinythumb in the template is adding 15KB to our photos and cutting them so that they look awful. We are uploading a photo that is less than 4K, 256×100 pixeles and we are getting a photo that is 256×100, disfigured and about 20K. How do we avoid the tinythumb or adjust it so that it isn’t increasing the size of the photo while disfiguringing it?
Sorry to hear you’re having issues with TimThumb. I use it in most of my projects and have never noticed too much of a compression quality loss. Perhaps you can have a look at the script author’s page:
Have a look at some of the cropping and picture quality options which may be causing the issues you’re experiencing.
Also check your media settings in WordPress for any possible cause.
