Since the recent update whether it was for this Noir theme or a WP update, I can no longer display 4 footer widgets. It has reduced it down to only one… How to i make it 4 again ?

Hi,

No need to be rude, I found the developer details via the details within the theme….

Thank you for the information, that seems to have fixed it – unsure why it changed as i didnt change the setting myself – very weird haha!

Fair enough – I hope you dont remove it as the people who have paid for it still want to be able to access support and its a really great theme :)

Hi,

Sorry if you felt like I was being rude, I was responding in the same demeanor as your previous reply.

I have removed some themes in the past and what I always do is put them on Github so that you still always have access to it and I open up the issues tab so that people can still report bugs. Basically I still support and update them, I just don’t charge for them or provide big enhancements/updates.

Anyway, if you do have any other issues you know where to find me ;)

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and happy holidays!

- AJ

Its all about perception :) I wasn’t being rude – sorry you thought that.

Thats fair – just as long they can continue to be updated otherwise the people who have purchased them wont be able to use them in upcoming updates.

Thanks happy holidays to you

Hi, I just purchased this theme. Can you update it to work with the newest version of the woo commerce plugin?

I have the following notification in Wordpress: Your theme (Noir) contains outdated copies of some WooCommerce template files. These files may need updating to ensure they are compatible with the current version of WooCommerce.

Suggestions to fix this: Update your theme to the latest version. If no update is available contact your theme author asking about compatibility with the current WooCommerce version. If you copied over a template file to change something, then you will need to copy the new version of the template and apply your changes again.

Hi,

Ok, I will be pushing out the update in a bit, but just wanted to let you know that I actually am planning to remove all the themes from this marketplace excerpt my Total theme which is a top selling item so that I can focus primarily on that theme. I will make this theme available for free on Github though (where I can provide limited support and updates still). I just wanted you to know so if you wanted to request a refund and continue using the theme you can do so.

- AJ

Thanks for letting me know

Of course, best of luck with your endevours!

Hi A.J.,

I’m using a child theme based on Noir. The only changes I made so far were to update woocommerce. I’ve added a lot of custom CSS and the site looks fine on desktop and even when I test mobile responsiveness in my desktop browser.

However, on my actual mobile phone, the shop pages don’t look right. The mobile nav menu is gone. It’s only on shop pages. Can you help me understand why and give me some hints to correct it? An example shop page that looks wonky is here: https://www.ninegoldenswans.com/shop-category/vintage-jewelry/

The actual product pages themselves look fine, it’s just the main shop page and category pages.

Thanks for your help.

I believe I figured it out the solution. It’s actually an issue with WordPress 5.5, the jQuery JavaScript library code in the theme and some plugins is deprecated. I enabled a jQuery migrate helper plugin that seems to have some effect, but not consistently. https://we.tl/t-8qF2XEMv84

The theme should work just fine in the latest version of WP without the migrate helper plugin, just like the live demo – http://wpexplorer-demos.com/noir/

- AJ

You’re right, that wasn’t the issue. A caching plugin I had deleted was still storing data and once I fixed that, it’s been fine.

I really appreciate all your help and apologize for the runaround on this. Your support is awesome and I’ll definitely recommend your themes to others.

Hi AJ,

If I’m using a child theme based on Noir and I want to keep the site title from appearing in the header, what code would I add to make that work?

Hi,

You mean the logo? You can add this CSS to your site:

.wpex-site-branding { display: none !important; }

But techincally the logo is the only thing that shows up in the main header so you may want to hide everything to prevent any possible white space from header padding.

.wpex-site-header { display: none !important; }

And you can also go into the Customizer to define a custom logo image instead of the theme defaulting to the site title.

- AJ

Perfect, thank you!

Will you be updating this theme in the future?

Hi,

This theme won’t be updated for new features because it’s a blogging theme, but if there are any issues or fixes needed then yes, I will push out an update to fix bugs, there just hasn’t been any reported as of recent ;)

Is it possible to add a slider of my most recent 5 posts?

Hi,

This is AJ the theme author. So by default this theme doesn’t have a “slider” it simply shows your latest post large at the top. If you want to add a slider it’s possible but you would need to use a 3rd party plugin for the slider since there isn’t a slider included in the theme.

If you have a plugin already for a slider but not sure how to insert it into the theme I can help with that.

Good afternoon, i want to set up MailChimp along with the newsletter widget. However, the “learn more” button is not working. Can you please tell me how to do it, or can you fix the button again?

Thank youa, anthony

Hi Anthony,

This is AJ the theme author, I hope you had a nice weekend.

Looks like the post has been removed where I was linking to some older docs, here is a newer doc for my Total theme but it works in the same way: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/mailchimp-form-action-url/

How can I add my google analytics code to my home page. As this page isnt in my standard ‘pages’ tab

Hi,

This theme doesn’t have a setting that you can use to insert your Google ads code because these type of options aren’t allowed on this marketplace anymore. There are two ways you can add this:

  • Using a child theme and hooking into the wp_head hook to insert your code via your functions.php file.

Brilliant! I used the plug in and it worked perfectly. Thanks!

Hi, In the Noir theme, under a post there is a “Trending articles” section. I didn’t find how to disable the display of that section and/or to translate in French “Trending articles”.

Tks

Sorry, I did find the option in Footer Post

Great, thanks for telling me. If you need anything else let me know!

Hi again, Thanks for your awesome response on my last question.

I have built a pretty standard Blog using your theme. I have the home page set up to display my recent posts, which is working perfectly.

Then I have 4 specific ‘topic’ pages (e.g. topic 1, topic 2 etc). I have created categories with these topics. I want my blog posts to appear on the homepage when they’re first posted, but then only want them to appear under their own specific ‘topic’ page E.g. all posts assigned the “topic 1” category to appear on the ‘Topic 1’ page. Is this possible?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay, for some reason I missed this comment :(

Regarding your question, I’m not sure what you want to do exactly. By default in WordPress any posts inside a category will automatically display in a dynamically generated page created by WordPress. So you should already have pages where you can view the posts in these categories without making the pages manually. Is there any reason you are creating the static pages?

In order to have posts display on static pages you would have to create either a custom page template that allows you to display posts or a shortcode that you can insert on the page to display the items.

It would be better to modify the actual category archives to get the look you want as opposed to making static pages.

Hi, Im loving this theme. It has been incredibly easy to create my website without any help so far!

One area Im a little stuck though is: I have disabled comments for my posts, however on the featured image, on the featured post, it still says ‘comments’ and a number alongside who posted it and how long ago. Is there a way to remove this info?

Great, I’m glad you like the theme!

So I just checked and if the comments are disabled the comment count should be removed automatically by the theme. So I’m not sure if you perhaps are using a different method of disabling comments then simply unchecking the allow comments box – https://cl.ly/06cf9d

That said, you can easily hide these via the customizer:

  • Appearance > Customize > General Theme Settings > Entries > Entry Meta Comments
  • Appearance > Customize > General Theme Settings > Posts > Post Meta Comments

- AJ

Thank-you AJ, I had it correct in the customizer, so I went back and tried you advice doing a bulk edit of my posts and disabling comments there and it worked perfectly! Thanks!!

I tried to install WooCommerce plugin and it crushed my site (with Noir template). Twice. Are you sure WooCommerce is compatible with the template? Any suggestions how to make it work?

Hi,

Yes, WooCommerce is fully compatible and also being used in the live demo: https://www.wpexplorer.com/

When your site was “crushed” what do you mean exactly? Did you get a blank screen or a warning/error message?

You’ll want to make sure WP_DEBUG is enabled on your WordPress installation and let me know what sort of error you are receiving when trying to activate the plugin.

It is possible to get errors if your WordPress version is outdated, there are 3rd party plugin errors or server issues. But in order to help you I need to know what sort of error is showing on the site. Thanks!

I’ve noticed that some of the links I post on the site are routed to an affiliate site that I am not a part of. Is this part of the setup, and how do I turn those off?

Definitely not a part of the theme, the theme will not re-route any links especially not to an affiliate site, that would be spam. Are you sure your site wasn’t hacked or that you haven’t installed a plugin causing the issue? Can you share a live example?

- AJ

Hi AJ, on the post below you can click on “celebratory brunch” and see that it routes to shareasale instead of the native URL that is linked. I tried to see if there was an account with shareasale, but I do not have one and I do not have any affiliate widgets installed. https://listenitsvetrano.com/2018/12/2018-eoy/

These links are being inserted directly into the content which isn’t something the theme could even do. It’s possible a plugin you have installed is adding them or your site was hacked :(

I would recommend you check to see if the link is added in the actual post in the backend editor, if not, then the links are being added either via javascript or some PHP. So the next step would be to de-activate any plugins to make sure none of them are doing this.

Last, I would recommend re-installing WordPress via the dashboard going to “Dashboard > Updates > Re-install Now” and changing your site passwords as well as your FTP/SFTP passwords.

Let me know what you find out.

I want to buy this theme, I will like to know which payment option is in shop section

WooCommerce supports many payments by default and you can enable more via addons – https://woocommerce.com/product-category/woocommerce-extensions/payment-gateways/

please what payment option is included in theme

The theme uses WooCommerce which is the most popular plugin for eCommerce. If you are new to WooCommerce you can learn about it here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/documentation/plugins/woocommerce/

I added Woo Commerce to my Noir theme and received this message. “Your theme (Noir) contains outdated copies of some WooCommerce template files. These files may need updating to ensure they are compatible with the current version of WooCommerce.”

Will there be an update, or do you have a fix?

No, that was a notice my blog was giving me. I realize that was for somethingelse. I updated the theme fully and that part is done. It did however remove the some of the tabs within Woocommerce like the Check Out so I am watching a tutorial to see how to fix it.

I followed the tutorial and added the pages + short codes and everything is all good.

Awesome!

Hi, I like this theme and considering buying. I just wanted to know if the theme allows the following before i purchase:

1: does the theme work well with Elementor page builder.

2: can the theme make “mega menu’s” (where the drop down shows an image, and a wider outlining).

If it doesnt, is it compatible with: - JetMenu – Mega Menu for Elementor Page Builder, or; - WP Mega Menu plugin

3: to show featured webshop items in a 3 column style on the front page

Thank you and hope to hear from you soon. Regards, Anthony

Hi, in addition to my question yesterday, does this theme work with WPML and/or Polylang so i can have multiple languages on the site? Thank you, Anthony

Hi,

Thank you for your patience Anthony.

1. Yes, Elementor is compatible with all themes.

2. There is no built-in megamenu but you can do that with a mega menu plugin such as UberMenu, the plugins listed or even Elementor.

3. You can display shop items on the homepage by creating a static homepage and using Elementor or WooCommerce shortcodes.

4. Yes, all themes work with WPML an Polylang and this theme is actually WPML certified.

Noir, is basically a “standard” WordPress theme. That means it only uses core WP functions and the homepage is setup using a standard archive (no builder or widgets). So any plugin that is well coded should work with the theme without issues.

If you do have any conflicts with the theme and it’s the theme’s issue we’ll push out an update and fix ;)

Hello! if I will use Revolution slider, will it possible to put slider with full width (not 90% like everywhere)? without white area from both sides? I mean is there such type of style control?

Hi,

Yes you could insert a full-width slider to your site (Slider Revolution has an option to make the slider 100% wide always). But there isn’t any global setting for inserting a slider on your whole site. So you would be doing this via a child theme.

- AJ

I’ve been using the NOIR theme for a few years now and I still love it. However, I just noticed that when it grabs the author URL (both within the post details where the date and categories are AND at the bottom with the author bio) it’s linking by using the author ID. Is there a way to change that so it only shows the nickname? Thanks.

Hi,

This is Aj the theme developer. Sorry for the delay.

So the theme by default uses the WordPress core function “the_author_posts_link” for the author link which is used by most developers. If you want to only display the name without the link you would have to modify the theme files via child theme and replace the “the_author_posts_link” function with “echo the_author_meta( ‘nickname’ )”. You can do a search for “the_author_posts_link” to find the files using the function and then place these in the child theme to make your modification.

- AJ

Hi AJ – No, I don’t want to get rid of the link…just which link it is showing. For instance when you click on the author link it’s going to: URL.com/author/userID when I want it to link to URL.com/author/author name. I don’t want the IDs shown. I could send you print screens privately of what I’m talking about if you give me an email address.

For Noir, or any of your themes, can you just upload them to WordPress and will it automatically switch over all content. I am worried, as I have 1,500 articles and don’t want to lose SEO juice when switching.

Also, for your shop tab on Noir, is there a way to link out to a Shopify store from the thumbnails (vs. woocommerce)? Thank you.

Hi,

Whenever you switch a theme you never will lose your content because content is ALWAYS saved in the database. The most important thing is that your on-page SEO has been done via a plugin such as Yoast SEO. Some poorly coded themes have built-in SEO options so if you switch themes you will lose those, that’s why you should always use an SEO plugin.

Are you just using standard posts and pages on your site?

Also, any theme’s you see for sale here on this marketplace are for self-hosted versions of WordPress only. So a heads up, if you are on WordPress.com you won’t be able to upload the theme unless you are using a premium account.

Regarding the shop. Of course you can link to a shopify store instead, using WooCommerce is 100% optional – just don’t install the plugin if you don’t need it ;) And you would just edit your menu as usual under Appearance > Menus to link to your shop.

If you are concerned about switching I would recommend hiring a freelance developer after purchasing the theme you want to use to help you first backup your website and than help with the switch. Although generally you shouldn’t ever have issues, especially if your site is a simple blog all you have to do is install and activate the new theme than add your custom logo and setup your widget areas.
