Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a "Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

How to update Onyx WordPress theme?

To safely update your copy of Onyx WordPress theme please follow these steps:

1. Go to your ThemeForest dashboard and download the latest All files & documentation zip archive from the Downloads page

2. Extract the downloaded archive and locate onyx.zip file

3. Extract onyx.zip file and locate the folder named onyx

4. Connect to your live server using an FTP software

5. Find and replace the contents of the existing onyx folder under /wp-content/themes on your live server with the contents of the downloaded onyx folder

How to update Visual Composer and LayerSlider plugins to latest version?

With each new theme update comes the latest version of Visual Composer and LayerSlider.

To properly update these plugins first make sure that you’re using the main Onyx theme (set in WP Admin -> Appearance -> Themes.) and then follow these steps:

1. Navigate to your Plugins tab in your WordPress dashboard, and locate these plugins in the list – deactivate and delete them.

2. You will see a message that the installation of these two plugins is required

3. Click to install the plugins and then activate them

Note: Before updating LayerSlider, we advise that you export the existing LayerSlider slideshows and re-import them once the update is completed.
