Is there a chance that you will update the theme to PHP 8.0?
Hi Eugene,
In my Novelist theme, when I click on “Books” and “continue” under my book, it has a sidebar saying “Latest Release” followed by Latin placeholder text and “Coming Soon” and the Omega Series IV. I assume these are left over from the demo import, but I can’t find a way to get rid of them. Thanks!
Hi,
Those are widgets that have been added to the “Book” sidebar. The sidebar widgets can be edited by either going to Appearance > Widgets or in the customizer by going to Appearance > Customize > Widgets.

Hi,
When I try to import the demo for Author I get the Error: Not Found (404) message.
Thanks!
Hi,
The One Click Demo import can sometimes be thrown off by server settings. Have you tried using the manual import option on the One Click Demo Import page?
- Eugene
Hi Eugene,
The manual import gave me the same error. Should I have the host change the server settings?
Send me login details to your WordPress dashboard via the contact form on our profile page and I’ll get the demo setup for you. I’ll need a username and password with admin permissions so that I can import content and change settings, and a link to the login page of your website.
Hi,
I’ve finished importing the Author demo for you. For some reason none of the importer plugins were working on your WordPress installation so I’ve copied the general settings and customizer settings across manually. You’ll need to change any buttons and links that appear in the page content as they will still be linking to the corresponding page on the theme demo, for example, the four boxes on the homepage.
You can also remove the widget import plugin and customizer settings export/import plugin as they are no longer needed.
- Eugene
Thanks Eugene. I’m have trouble finding a way to replace the background image on the homepage. I’m sure it’s something simple I’m missing, but I haven’t gotten it yet or found it in the documentation. Thanks again!
The header image is added directly to the content row in the page builder, so the option is buried deep in the layout editor.
- Go to the page’s edit screen.
- Click the wrench icon in the top right corner of the first row of the layout builder.
- Select the Edit Row option from the list.
- In the Row Styles column on the right, select the Design tab.

Great, Thanks Eugene!
Hi – we’re trying to do a cleanup of our WP setup. This script is coming up as not found:
/wp-content/plugins/websitesmash-salisbury-siteorigin-widgets/assets/js/jquery.wsssow.js?ver=5.6
Is this needed and if not, how can we remove it or comment it out to avoid it getting parsed into the source code?
In our plugins list, I notice we have both, SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle and WebsiteSmash SiteOrigin Widgets for Salisbury installed. Do we need both?
Hi,
1.) jquery.wssow.js is no longer used by the WebsiteSmash Widgets Bundle plugin. You should be able to fix this error by deleting the plugin and reinstalling. The latest version of the plugin is version 1.0.1.
http://www.websitesmash.com/downloads/plugins/websitesmash-salisbury-siteorigin-widgets.zipMake sure to do a hard refresh of your homepage after reinstalling the plugin to clear your browser cache.
2.) The two plugins are separate. They add more widgets to the page builder so you only need either of them if you are using the widgets added by that specific plugin.

Hi, I’m trying to edit the quote/text that says “I have a thousand stories to tell, and I plan on telling them all” in the header of the about page, from the top navigation on the author demo.
I can’t seem to find a way to do it – are you able to help at all please? When I try to edit the page title it only changes the little “About” text next to the quote.
Hi,
Sorry for the slow response to your question.
The text that appears at the top of the About page on the Author demo is the Page Excerpt text. You can edit this text by going to the page’s edit screen, scrolling to the bottom and looking for the Post Excerpt text box. There’s a possibility the Post Excerpt text box isn’t visible because it’s not enabled. To enable the text box click on the Screen Options tab at the top of the Page Edit screen, then enable the Excerpt checkbox. The Page Excerpt text area should then be visible below the content editor.

Hi! I’ve been using the Content Marketing demo as a guide for a client site. I have a couple questions:
1. Is there a built-in way to get an image on the Blog page header to show (kind of like here: http://salisbury.websitesmash.com/salisbury-author/blog/) and make it easily editable in the back-end? Or is this something that requires customization?
2. How can drop in the search functionality in the navigation? I took it out when the site was first built a year or so ago and can’t figure out how to get it back in with the default theme functionality (i.e. the full screen overlay).
Thanks!
Hi,
1.) You can add an image to page header on post archives in the Customizer by going to Appearance > Customize > Salisbury Theme > Post Archives and selecting an image in the “Header Background Image” option.
Note that the same image is displayed in the header of all post archive pages (blog index, categories, tags, etc).
2.) Assuming you disabled the slide down search overlay using the built in option you can be toggle it back on in the Customizer by going to Appearance > Customize > Salisbury Theme > Header and toggling the Header Search Form option.
If the site search was manually removed from the template files you’ll need to re-add the following elements to the template files:
- The search toggle icon in header.php (line 66-68)
- The search form in footer.php (line 132-134)
Feel free to reply in this thread if you need any further help.

Excellent. Got it working – thanks!
“Does the Slider widget include sound when setting a video (MP4) as a background image? I can load a video, but not with sound.”
I found this question in the net. Two years ago the reply was: “maybe in future updates”. And now? Can I upload video with sound or not? Because my video in website’s home is mute.
Thanks
Hi,
This is a question relating to the SiteOrigin Page Builder which is a third party plugin that’s separate to the theme so you’ll have to ask the developers of the plugin directly.
Having said that, from my testing it’s not possible to have background videos with sound in the slider widget.
- Eugene
Hello Eugene.
I asked to SiteOrigine. This is them reply:
“It looks like you can achieve a YouTube layer with sound using Smart Slider 3, more on that at the following link https://smartslider3.helpscoutdocs.com/article/198-youtube-layer."
I didn’t understand it, because it is another slider, not SiteOrigine slider. What do you think about it?
Hi, Car
I don’t have any experience the Smart Slider plugin so I can’t offer much advice. It looks like it will do what you are trying to do, however, I wouldn’t recommend having background videos with sound as it’s bad for the user’s experience to have auto playing videos with sound that the user can’t control. Smart Slider is also a premium plugin that you’d have to pay extra to use.
- Eugene
Thanks a lot for your advice
Hello, Eugene. I wrote to you earlier because there was a problem with viewing posts on the blog page: when you clicked on load more, it didn’t show you all the posts posted. The problem had solved itself. Now I uploaded a new post and the problem came back. I’d like to understand why.
This could be because of your browsers cache showing an older version of the page or because of a cache plugin not being refreshed when the new post is added.
1.) Clear your browser’s cache to ensure the newest version of the page is being loaded.
2.) If you have a cache plugin installed on your site, clear the plugin cache.
- Eugene
I did it. Now is ok and I know what I’ll have to do in the future. Thank you
Hello! I can’t find the theme slider. In the sample you can see more than one large picture behind the name and menu in the home page, but I can’t. Can you help me please? Thank you.
Hi,
On the demo homepage we have used the SiteOrigin Layout Slider block to add the text and buttons for each slide. However, the actual background image for the slider is added in the row’s settings in the page builder.
https://imgur.com/a/pV53fbZ- Eugene
Hello, Eugene.
Thank you, but now I have another problem… I can’t get the picture of the SiteOrigin Layout slider behind the top menu. It always stays under the menu bar. I’ve been tryied everything, but nothing. Can you help me? Thank you
Check that the “Hide Title” option is selected in the page options below the content editor on the page’s edit screen.
If that doesn’t solve the problem you’ll need to post a link or screenshot of the page so I can get a clearer understanding of the issue.
- Eugene
Thanks a lot, Eugene. I had it selected earlier and it didn’t work. Now it’s finally working. One last question: what is the size (optimal pixels) of the slider photo?
Carm
The image needs to be as large as possible to maintain quality on large screens but have a file size that’s as small as possible to prevent long page load speeds. I usually try 1600px wide header images as a good balance. You’ll have to try out different image heights to see what fits your content best.
Whatever size you use, it’s best to run the image through an image file size compressor before uploading it to your website and also install a image compression plugin on your WordPress website to get the file sizes as small as possible.
I’m trying with size you suggest, but now the photo has two black borders on the left and on the right. In the settings you can choose: - Height - Top and bottom padding - Extra top padding - Side padding - Maximum container width
But where’s the image width? Or is there another way to enlarge the photo and make the side edges disappear?
Go to the options panel where you set the row’s background image and set the “Background Image Display” option to “cover”. This will stretch the image to fill the available space at all times. There shouldn’t be a need to add any paddings or margins.
I’ve done it several times. Even before it was as you say, but the black edges on the sides of the image remain and I don’t understand why.
You’ll have to post a link or screenshots so I can see what you mean.
Here it is: https://snipboard.io/7uJUVG.jpg
You need to remove any padding or margins on the page builder row and set the background image display type to Cover. It might be that you need to try unsetting those options and then resetting them so that they take effect.
If that doesn’t work you’ll have to send login details via the contact form on our profile page so I can take a closer look.
I’ve been sent. Thank you
You have your slider setup differently from how it is in the demo but I’ve made the necessary change to get the look you were trying to achieve.
I deleted the page, I made a new one, but the situation hasn’t changed. What should I do?
I had fixed it so there was no need to delete the page. I have made the change again. If you view your homepage you should see that the slider images now fill the full width of the page.
- Eugene
Great! Thank you very much.
Hello, Eugene. It’s me again, Carm. I have 2 problems: 1. I can’t insert the background image near footer as the demo, like this in other space, not header, of the screen; 2. I don’t find the botton “load more” and equal functionality for post page.
Here you the examples: 1. Demo – https://snipboard.io/aZ8Ffl.jpg My – https://snipboard.io/7WufPM.jpg
2. Demo – https://snipboard.io/ACt1gX.jpg
Can you help me please? thanks Carm
Hi,
1. The background image needs to be added to the row’s settings. Click on the edit row link (https://imgur.com/f3GLAGg/ ) then add the background image in the Design tab (https://imgur.com/NPvUBPq/ ).
2. The AJAX pagination option needs to be enabled. Go to Appearance > Customize. Then click on the “Salisbury Theme” > “Post Archives” and make sure the “AJAX Pagination” option is enabled.
You might also want to enable the AJAX pagination option in “Salisbury Theme” > “Search”.
- Eugene
Thaks Eugene. N. 1 now is ok. For n. 2 I have enabled the AJAX pagination option, but it did’t happen anything. I set too the WebsiteSmash Posts > “Posts per pages” option for less number of totally posts, but without result.
Try switching the option off and saving the changes, then enable the option and save again. If that doesn’t work post a reply here and I’ll take a look.
- Eugene
It does’t work, I sent you my logins in a private message. There are two archive pages: “articoli” and “blog”. Thank you
AJAX pagination is only available on the dynamically generated WordPress post archive pages so it will not appear on the custom archive pages you have created using the Site Origin Page Builder.
I have setup the WordPress post archive for you by creating a page titled “Default Blog”. You can rename this page to what ever you like.
The WordPress post archive layout options can be found in Appearance > Customize > Salisbury Theme > Post Archives, where you can adjust the header image and which elements are displayed on each of the posts on the archive page.
- Eugene
Great job, Eugene. Now it’s clear, but I learnt something e I can’t do another one. I need to have two post archives: one called “articoli” and another one “blog”. Before I could do it thanks Taxonomies option. Now? How Can I chooce article or post I want its appear in every archive?
You can use post categories or tags to separate the posts between blog and articoli, and then link to the post category or tag archive pages in your navigation instead of the main blog index.
Or
Use the standard posts for all the posts you want in the blog and use a custom post type plugin to add another post type that you can use for the posts in articoli so that they appear in separate post type archives. I have not used this plugin and I do not know if it works but from the description its the type of plugin you would need – https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/custom-post-type-ui/
Hi, Eugene. Don’t worry. It’s all ok. I just wanted to communicate you my progress. Finally I understood that to insert two post archive in the menu I had to create two custom link (category/blog and category/articoli). Never mind if the background image for “articoli” and “blog” is the same, because blog set is unique. I’d like just uniforme the font of title menu’s voice with font of header of blog. Could you send me html code of blog title? I promise, it’s my last request. Thanks a lot
I don’t understand what you mean. If you are trying to center the “Articoli” and “Blog” page title in the header and change the padding so that it matches the title on other pages you can try this CSS.
body.category.has-background-image .siteContent-header {padding-bottom: 200px;} body.category .siteContent-header {padding-top: 190px;} body.category .siteContent-header .contentWidth {padding: 0;} body.category .postTitle {text-align: center;}
I’d like that font of title of archive blog (like this “Articoli” and “Blog”) is the same for titles of “Libri”, “Agenda” archives etc. I think is it possible if I had the form elements html of title font of archive blog to insert in the field of “Libri” and “Agenda” title. Look at the example: https://snipboard.io/mTfsQN.jpg
The font style and font size are already the same. Go to Appearance > Customise > Additional CSS and add the code in my last reply to make the text centered and make the top and bottom spacing match the title text on all other pages.
Ok, perfect. I thougt the font style was different, but is the same. Thank you very much, Eugene, for your precious support.
Hi, Eugene. My website now is online. I’m proud of the results. So I’d like to show you it to know how do you think about. Thanks again. Carm https://carmelogreco.eu/
Hi. I inserted a picture in a post and I put the text around it. You can see it on the desktop, but on the smarthpone screen the text isn’t around the image. Is it possible fix it? Thank you
https://snipboard.io/KHA681.jpgNo it’s not. Images and text stack on small screen devices.
- Eugene
Hello. I have a problem. How you can see, I wrote 10 blog post, but the page views only 9. Why? I verified general setting and it’s ok. Thank for your support
https://snipboard.io/7nIZu2.jpgNow it works. I don’t know why, I didn’t do anything.
Hi! I host my wordpress site on Bluehost. I tried to install the theme, and got this error:
“The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.
Theme installation failed.”
Help?
My bad; I just found the helpfix on that.
We have created a Website based on salisbury and we have one problem, for which we can’t find a solution.
Our Website: https://www.heike-baehrens.de The Problem: The picture we put as header picture in the SideOrigin Layout Slider is not shown perfectly in all mobile end devices. Especially on tablet landscape format shows a very big zoom, as you can see on the following pages: https://www.heike-baehrens.de/zu-meiner-person https://www.heike-baehrens.de/meine-themen https://www.heike-baehrens.de/mein-wahlkreisWhat can we do to get this fixed?
Best regards
Hi,
If I understand the problem correctly you have added a background image to the row and then placed a slider inside that row so that it appears on top of the background image in the page header. This is fine.
However, when a ‘Background Image Display’ option is set to fixed (so that it doesn’t move as the page scrolls) the image is stretched to fill the entire browser width and height, not just it’s container. This is why it appears as if the image is zoomed in. This is how the background-attachment: fixed
CSS property works and is not something being caused by the theme.
The solution is to not use the ‘Fixed’ option for the ‘Background Image Display’ setting. I think setting it to ‘Parallax’ might also cause the same issue.
- Eugene
I added the CSS fix in both of the recommended locations and received an error one way and saved the 2nd way, but no change is observed. The PayPal button is huge. Can you provide screenshots and a more complete step by step instruction guide?
Appearance>Theme Editor >/* Theme Name: Salisbury Child Theme Description: Child theme for Salisbury. Template: salisbury Author: Version: 1.0input.wpedon_paypalbuttonimage { width: auto; }/ Does not work.
and Appearance>Themes>Customize>Additional CSS> /
input.wpedon_paypalbuttonimage { width: auto; }/ Does not work with and without / */
Get an error that “Markup is not allowed in CSS”
Please provide information so we can utilize the PayPal button
do you have a theme update? on Version 1.0
The CSS should be added in “Appearance” > “Customize” > “Additional CSS” like this: https://imgur.com/a/ZpZ39yX
If that doesn’t work you can email login detail to your website via the contact form on our Themeforest profile page and we’ll take a look.
- Eugene
Version 1.0.3 is the latest version of the theme. You should update if you haven’t already but the update will not fix the CSS conflict causing the paypal styling issue.
Here’s a screenshot of the fix tested in browser on your website so I’m confident it should work.
https://imgur.com/a/KVn259RI already tried exactly what you suggested so I will use the contact form so you can fix the problem. Where do I go to get the latest Theme update?
I submitted the contact form but Im not sure it was the correct location, so please check for the information.
You can download the latest version of the theme from the Downloads page of your ThemeForest account. When checking the current version of the theme that is installed on your website make sure you are looking at the parent theme version and not the child theme version.
There’s an explanation of how to update the theme in the theme’s readme.html file, but put simply you delete the existing version of the parent theme from your WordPress installation and upload the newer version.
I haven’t received an email from you yet. The contact form can be found by clicking our username on this post and then scrolling down our profile page until you see the contact form. It should look like this: https://imgur.com/a/6Y0o6T0
To fix the issue we need an admin username / password and a link to the login page so that we can login into your WordPress website and apply the CSS fix.
- Eugene
I sent a reply to your email yesterday evening. The login password you sent was incorrect so I wasn’t able to make the changes. Can you double check the login username and password and resend them?
- Eugene
I’ve added the code to your website fixing the PayPal button styling. If you have any other questions feel free to post a new comment here in the item’s comments section.
- Eugene
Hi,
This is a simple CSS fix. Place this in your child theme or the additional CSS option in the customizer.
input.wpedon_paypalbuttonimage { padding: 0; width: auto; }

Hi there,
is it possible to copy a layouted widget from one page to another?
We have layouted a Layout Builder (SiteOrigin Page Builder Layout) that should be displayed on several pages, and we don’t want to build it several times.
Best regards. Chris
Hi,
Yes you can export a page’s layout and import it onto another or multiple pages:
- Go to the new page’s edit screen.
- Click on the “Layouts” button at the top of the page builder.
- Click the “Clone page’s” link.
Or…
- Go to the page’s edit screen.
- Click on the “Layouts” button at the top of the page builder.
- Select Import / Export from the left side of the popup window.
- Click the “Download Layout” button
- Then go to the new page.
- Click the “Layout” button.
- Select Import / Export from the left side of the popup window.
- Drop the import file into the upload area and follow the instructions.
If you only want to copy part of a page layout to several pages you could create a new unpublished page with just the layout section you want to reuse and then copy from the unpublished page each time you want to use that section of layout.

Hi there,
we build a website and wanted to go online today. We used a dev.url…. to build and now changed it to www.url….
Now on some pages the SiteOrigin Page Builder is not active anymore and the layout looks different.
Can you retrace, what could have happend? Is it possible to change back to the SiteOrigin Page Builder in the Backend one the Page is shown in the classic backend style?
best regards
Chris
Hi. Sorry for the slow response.
Changing the domain of a WordPress site can be tricky and the added complication of the new Gutenberg editor can make it even more difficult.
I’m not sure why the page builder would not be active on some pages and without seeing exactly what’s going on in your website’s backend it’s difficult for me to even guess. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s possible to switch from the Gutenberg editor back to the classic editor to use the siteorigin page builder (although there is a SiteOrigin page builder block you can use with Gutenberg) so the only advice I can give is to recreate the pages where the page builder layout has been lost.
I would first try this:- On the page where the page builder has been lost, switch to the code editor and make a copy of any content on the page. If you’re lucky the SiteOrigin layout content will still be there.
- Create a new page using the SiteOrigin Page Builder.
- On the new page, click the “revert to editor” button, then switch to the “text” tab on the editor.
- Paste the content coped from the code view of the original page.
- Switch to the “Page Builder” tab on the content editor. You should see an alert asking if you want to copy the existing content over to the page builder. Click OK.
If that doesn’t work you’ll have to re-create the pages from scratch.
If you would like me to take a closer look at your websites backend please send login details via the contact form on our themeforest profile page. However, you might be able to get a more helpful answer to these plugin specific questions from the plugin’s support forum: https://siteorigin.com/thread/

Hi there,
another question concerning the subheadline on some of the demopages.
I’m trying to change e.g. the following text (the subheadline on the page) “Vivamus ullamcorper posuere congue vestibulum ante ipsum primis in faucibus orci luctus et ultrices.”
on http://salisbury.websitesmash.com/salisbury-affiliate/about/
Where can I find the text?
Best regards
Hi,
The page subtitle is added using the Excerpt textarea on the page’s edit screen.- Excerpt text area on the old WordPress editor / SiteOrigin page builder: https://imgur.com/5kkfWfT

Hello there,
we bought an installed salisbury an now we want to costumize it. Can you please tell me, how to chance the backgroundimage on top ( scribe-bg-1.jpg). I couldn’t fine an option.
Thanks Best regards
Chris
Hi,
The option to change a background image is different depending on which background image you are trying to change.
The background image seen on this page (which I think is the type you are asking about) is set by changing the background image of the first row in the page builder on the page’s edit screen. We set the background image on the row instead of in the slider because we wanted the same background for all the slides and we wanted the background to fill the header section.

2.) https://imgur.com/QI7Aksb
I hope that helps Eugene
Hello. I just purchased this theme for a client and we seem to have figured out pretty much everything and are in the middle of rehauling everything. However, we’ve run into one small hiccup.
My client is an author and she’s filled out all of her books. I was doing a check on the series pages so that we can start linking to them and half of the series pages work, but the other half don’t. And looking at the backend and taking a look at the series, I see that all of them have books linked to them. The one, in particular, should have eight books, but it says No Posts To Display (link is here: http://hollybarbo-books.com/books/series/quick-reads/).
Do you know what could be the problem? I’m a bit stumped as to how to fix this particular problem.
Hi,
I’ll need to take a look at how you have the books arranged in the admin area. Can you send me admin login details via the contact form on our profile page (https://themeforest.net/user/websitesmash)? I’ll take a look and see if I can see what’s causing the problem.
- Eugene
Hi,
I’ve taken a quick look at your site to investigate the problem further. Unfortunately I don’t have a fix yet so I’ll have to continue testing things out today.
What I have found so far is that if you add a book to the Quick Reads series that that is already showing in another series the book (e.g. Deadly Gambit) the book will show up on the Quick Reads series archive. And the opposite happens if you try to add one of the books from the Quick Reads series to the Deadly Gambit series, the book does not show up. So at the moment I think think the problem is something in the specific books meta data that is preventing it from being shown on archive pages.
I’ll continue testing and get back to you when I figure out the issue.
EDIT:
I’ve figured out the problem. All the books that are added to a Book Series need to have a series number added on the Books edit screen. The number determines the order they are shown on the Series Archive. If the series doesn’t have an order you can just enter 0 or 1 and it should output them in the order the books were added to your website.
This does mean that it isn’t possible to add one book to two series, unless you are happy with the book having the same series number in both series.
- Eugene
Thanks so much! You’ve been a huge help.
Hello,
I am experiencing an issue with the mobile version of my site that means the bottom two fields in my menu (Contact, and Language) are difficult to see – they are lost and it becomes necessary to constantly scroll upward in order to see / access them
Please see the following screenshots:
What. we get: https://ibb.co/HNC6vJx
What is hidden: https://ibb.co/prtDYpH
Hi,
You have a lot of menu items so to access them all the user will have to scroll. The bottom links might be easier to access if you add some more padding to the bottom of the menu to compensate for the buttons that are at the bottom of the mobile browser:
@media only screen and (max-width: 1024px) { .siteHeader-nav .siteHeader-menu .wp-custom-menu { padding-bottom: 100px; } }
- Eugene
Hello,
We are experiencing issues with your WP site with your theme – the top banner loads slower than the bottom text, and causes a ‘flashing’ effect when visiting the homepage – which looks unsightly for customers.
The website is
www.apex.lu
Do you have a fix for this issue? I have noticed several threads about this although none appear to be resolved,
I would appreciate a response asap as this issue is urgent
thank you
Hi,
This is an issue with the SiteOrigin Page Builder plugin, not the theme.
The height of each slide in the slider widget you are using as your home page header is set using JavaScript. This is so that the slider height can adjust for the height of each individual slide instead of being one fixed height.
The slide heights cannot be calculated until the page content has completed loading otherwise the calculation would not be accurate. This results in the flashing effect you see on slower connections as the header “snaps” from 0 height to the correct calculated height.
I can’t think of a way that would completely eliminate the flashing effect but you can reduce it by giving the slider a min-height in CSS. This won’t be a perfect fix because the min-height will still snap to the correct height once the page has loaded:
.sow-slider-image { min-height: 500px; /*Min slide height */ }
Alternatively you can try giving the slides a default height but this will have the same issues as setting a min-height:
.sow-slider-image { height: 500px; /*Default slide height */ }You can add either of the piece of code above to any one of three places:
- Go to the home page’s edit screen. Select the Edit Row button and add the CSS to the CSS Styles text box.
- Go to Appearance > Customize in the admin dashboard and add the CSS to the Additional CSS option.
- Add the custom CSS to your child theme’s style.css.
- Eugene
Hello, Is it possible to change the font for one specific element? I would like to change the font on the main visual of the home page. Is it possible to customize or use google fonts? many thanks, best
You would have to code it manually using CSS.
