Is there a chance that you will update the theme to PHP 8.0?

Hi Eugene,

In my Novelist theme, when I click on “Books” and “continue” under my book, it has a sidebar saying “Latest Release” followed by Latin placeholder text and “Coming Soon” and the Omega Series IV. I assume these are left over from the demo import, but I can’t find a way to get rid of them. Thanks!

Hi,

Those are widgets that have been added to the “Book” sidebar. The sidebar widgets can be edited by either going to Appearance > Widgets or in the customizer by going to Appearance > Customize > Widgets.

Hi,

When I try to import the demo for Author I get the Error: Not Found (404) message.

Thanks!

Thanks Eugene. I’m have trouble finding a way to replace the background image on the homepage. I’m sure it’s something simple I’m missing, but I haven’t gotten it yet or found it in the documentation. Thanks again!

The header image is added directly to the content row in the page builder, so the option is buried deep in the layout editor.

  • Go to the page’s edit screen.
  • Click the wrench icon in the top right corner of the first row of the layout builder.
  • Select the Edit Row option from the list.
  • In the Row Styles column on the right, select the Design tab.

Great, Thanks Eugene!

Hi – we’re trying to do a cleanup of our WP setup. This script is coming up as not found:

/wp-content/plugins/websitesmash-salisbury-siteorigin-widgets/assets/js/jquery.wsssow.js?ver=5.6

Is this needed and if not, how can we remove it or comment it out to avoid it getting parsed into the source code?

In our plugins list, I notice we have both, SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle and WebsiteSmash SiteOrigin Widgets for Salisbury installed. Do we need both?

Hi,

1.) jquery.wssow.js is no longer used by the WebsiteSmash Widgets Bundle plugin. You should be able to fix this error by deleting the plugin and reinstalling. The latest version of the plugin is version 1.0.1.

http://www.websitesmash.com/downloads/plugins/websitesmash-salisbury-siteorigin-widgets.zip

Make sure to do a hard refresh of your homepage after reinstalling the plugin to clear your browser cache.

2.) The two plugins are separate. They add more widgets to the page builder so you only need either of them if you are using the widgets added by that specific plugin.

Hi, I’m trying to edit the quote/text that says “I have a thousand stories to tell, and I plan on telling them all” in the header of the about page, from the top navigation on the author demo.

I can’t seem to find a way to do it – are you able to help at all please? When I try to edit the page title it only changes the little “About” text next to the quote.

Hi,

Sorry for the slow response to your question.

The text that appears at the top of the About page on the Author demo is the Page Excerpt text. You can edit this text by going to the page’s edit screen, scrolling to the bottom and looking for the Post Excerpt text box. There’s a possibility the Post Excerpt text box isn’t visible because it’s not enabled. To enable the text box click on the Screen Options tab at the top of the Page Edit screen, then enable the Excerpt checkbox. The Page Excerpt text area should then be visible below the content editor.

Hi! I’ve been using the Content Marketing demo as a guide for a client site. I have a couple questions:

1. Is there a built-in way to get an image on the Blog page header to show (kind of like here: http://salisbury.websitesmash.com/salisbury-author/blog/) and make it easily editable in the back-end? Or is this something that requires customization?

2. How can drop in the search functionality in the navigation? I took it out when the site was first built a year or so ago and can’t figure out how to get it back in with the default theme functionality (i.e. the full screen overlay).

Thanks!

Hi,

1.) You can add an image to page header on post archives in the Customizer by going to Appearance > Customize > Salisbury Theme > Post Archives and selecting an image in the “Header Background Image” option.

Note that the same image is displayed in the header of all post archive pages (blog index, categories, tags, etc).

2.) Assuming you disabled the slide down search overlay using the built in option you can be toggle it back on in the Customizer by going to Appearance > Customize > Salisbury Theme > Header and toggling the Header Search Form option.

If the site search was manually removed from the template files you’ll need to re-add the following elements to the template files:

  • The search toggle icon in header.php (line 66-68)
  • The search form in footer.php (line 132-134)

Feel free to reply in this thread if you need any further help.

Excellent. Got it working – thanks!

“Does the Slider widget include sound when setting a video (MP4) as a background image? I can load a video, but not with sound.”

I found this question in the net. Two years ago the reply was: “maybe in future updates”. And now? Can I upload video with sound or not? Because my video in website’s home is mute.

Thanks

Hello, Eugene. I wrote to you earlier because there was a problem with viewing posts on the blog page: when you clicked on load more, it didn’t show you all the posts posted. The problem had solved itself. Now I uploaded a new post and the problem came back. I’d like to understand why.

This could be because of your browsers cache showing an older version of the page or because of a cache plugin not being refreshed when the new post is added.

1.) Clear your browser’s cache to ensure the newest version of the page is being loaded.

2.) If you have a cache plugin installed on your site, clear the plugin cache.

- Eugene

I did it. Now is ok and I know what I’ll have to do in the future. Thank you

Hello! I can’t find the theme slider. In the sample you can see more than one large picture behind the name and menu in the home page, but I can’t. Can you help me please? Thank you.

No it’s not. Images and text stack on small screen devices.

Hello. I have a problem. How you can see, I wrote 10 blog post, but the page views only 9. Why? I verified general setting and it’s ok. Thank for your support

Now it works. I don’t know why, I didn’t do anything.

Hi! I host my wordpress site on Bluehost. I tried to install the theme, and got this error:

“The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

Theme installation failed.”

Help?

My bad; I just found the helpfix on that. :)

We have created a Website based on salisbury and we have one problem, for which we can’t find a solution.

Our Website: https://www.heike-baehrens.de The Problem: The picture we put as header picture in the SideOrigin Layout Slider is not shown perfectly in all mobile end devices. Especially on tablet landscape format shows a very big zoom, as you can see on the following pages: https://www.heike-baehrens.de/zu-meiner-person https://www.heike-baehrens.de/meine-themen https://www.heike-baehrens.de/mein-wahlkreis

What can we do to get this fixed?

Best regards

Hi,

If I understand the problem correctly you have added a background image to the row and then placed a slider inside that row so that it appears on top of the background image in the page header. This is fine.

However, when a ‘Background Image Display’ option is set to fixed (so that it doesn’t move as the page scrolls) the image is stretched to fill the entire browser width and height, not just it’s container. This is why it appears as if the image is zoomed in. This is how the background-attachment: fixed CSS property works and is not something being caused by the theme.

The solution is to not use the ‘Fixed’ option for the ‘Background Image Display’ setting. I think setting it to ‘Parallax’ might also cause the same issue.

- Eugene

I added the CSS fix in both of the recommended locations and received an error one way and saved the 2nd way, but no change is observed. The PayPal button is huge. Can you provide screenshots and a more complete step by step instruction guide?

Appearance>Theme Editor >/* Theme Name: Salisbury Child Theme Description: Child theme for Salisbury. Template: salisbury Author: Version: 1.0
input.wpedon_paypalbuttonimage {
        width: auto;
}
/ Does not work.

and Appearance>Themes>Customize>Additional CSS> /

input.wpedon_paypalbuttonimage {
        width: auto;
}
/ Does not work with and without / */

Get an error that “Markup is not allowed in CSS”

Please provide information so we can utilize the PayPal button

You can download the latest version of the theme from the Downloads page of your ThemeForest account. When checking the current version of the theme that is installed on your website make sure you are looking at the parent theme version and not the child theme version.

There’s an explanation of how to update the theme in the theme’s readme.html file, but put simply you delete the existing version of the parent theme from your WordPress installation and upload the newer version.

I haven’t received an email from you yet. The contact form can be found by clicking our username on this post and then scrolling down our profile page until you see the contact form. It should look like this: https://imgur.com/a/6Y0o6T0

To fix the issue we need an admin username / password and a link to the login page so that we can login into your WordPress website and apply the CSS fix.

- Eugene

I sent a reply to your email yesterday evening. The login password you sent was incorrect so I wasn’t able to make the changes. Can you double check the login username and password and resend them?

- Eugene

I’ve added the code to your website fixing the PayPal button styling. If you have any other questions feel free to post a new comment here in the item’s comments section.

- Eugene

http://tomslone.com/index.php/support/ the PayPal donate button will not resize. Send instructions on how to get the Theme to work with donate buttons. Tried html code from PayPal, and 2 different widgets.

Hi,

This is a simple CSS fix. Place this in your child theme or the additional CSS option in the customizer.

input.wpedon_paypalbuttonimage {
    padding: 0;
    width: auto;
}

Hi there,

is it possible to copy a layouted widget from one page to another?

We have layouted a Layout Builder (SiteOrigin Page Builder Layout) that should be displayed on several pages, and we don’t want to build it several times.

Best regards. Chris

Hi,

Yes you can export a page’s layout and import it onto another or multiple pages:

  • Go to the new page’s edit screen.
  • Click on the “Layouts” button at the top of the page builder.
  • Click the “Clone page’s” link.

Or…

  • Go to the page’s edit screen.
  • Click on the “Layouts” button at the top of the page builder.
  • Select Import / Export from the left side of the popup window.
  • Click the “Download Layout” button
  • Then go to the new page.
  • Click the “Layout” button.
  • Select Import / Export from the left side of the popup window.
  • Drop the import file into the upload area and follow the instructions.

If you only want to copy part of a page layout to several pages you could create a new unpublished page with just the layout section you want to reuse and then copy from the unpublished page each time you want to use that section of layout.

Hi there,

we build a website and wanted to go online today. We used a dev.url…. to build and now changed it to www.url….

Now on some pages the SiteOrigin Page Builder is not active anymore and the layout looks different.

Can you retrace, what could have happend? Is it possible to change back to the SiteOrigin Page Builder in the Backend one the Page is shown in the classic backend style?

best regards

Chris

Hi. Sorry for the slow response.

Changing the domain of a WordPress site can be tricky and the added complication of the new Gutenberg editor can make it even more difficult.

I’m not sure why the page builder would not be active on some pages and without seeing exactly what’s going on in your website’s backend it’s difficult for me to even guess. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s possible to switch from the Gutenberg editor back to the classic editor to use the siteorigin page builder (although there is a SiteOrigin page builder block you can use with Gutenberg) so the only advice I can give is to recreate the pages where the page builder layout has been lost.

I would first try this:
  • On the page where the page builder has been lost, switch to the code editor and make a copy of any content on the page. If you’re lucky the SiteOrigin layout content will still be there.
  • Create a new page using the SiteOrigin Page Builder.
  • On the new page, click the “revert to editor” button, then switch to the “text” tab on the editor.
  • Paste the content coped from the code view of the original page.
  • Switch to the “Page Builder” tab on the content editor. You should see an alert asking if you want to copy the existing content over to the page builder. Click OK.

If that doesn’t work you’ll have to re-create the pages from scratch.

If you would like me to take a closer look at your websites backend please send login details via the contact form on our themeforest profile page. However, you might be able to get a more helpful answer to these plugin specific questions from the plugin’s support forum: https://siteorigin.com/thread/

Hi there,

another question concerning the subheadline on some of the demopages.

I’m trying to change e.g. the following text (the subheadline on the page) “Vivamus ullamcorper posuere congue vestibulum ante ipsum primis in faucibus orci luctus et ultrices.”

on http://salisbury.websitesmash.com/salisbury-affiliate/about/

Where can I find the text?

Best regards

Hi,

The page subtitle is added using the Excerpt textarea on the page’s edit screen. If you can’t see the excerpt box on the Gutenberg editor make sure it is enabled as shown in these images -

Hello there,

we bought an installed salisbury an now we want to costumize it. Can you please tell me, how to chance the backgroundimage on top ( scribe-bg-1.jpg). I couldn’t fine an option.

Thanks Best regards

Chris

Hi,

The option to change a background image is different depending on which background image you are trying to change.

The background image seen on this page (which I think is the type you are asking about) is set by changing the background image of the first row in the page builder on the page’s edit screen. We set the background image on the row instead of in the slider because we wanted the same background for all the slides and we wanted the background to fill the header section.

I hope that helps Eugene

Hello. I just purchased this theme for a client and we seem to have figured out pretty much everything and are in the middle of rehauling everything. However, we’ve run into one small hiccup.

My client is an author and she’s filled out all of her books. I was doing a check on the series pages so that we can start linking to them and half of the series pages work, but the other half don’t. And looking at the backend and taking a look at the series, I see that all of them have books linked to them. The one, in particular, should have eight books, but it says No Posts To Display (link is here: http://hollybarbo-books.com/books/series/quick-reads/).

Do you know what could be the problem? I’m a bit stumped as to how to fix this particular problem.

Hi,

I’ll need to take a look at how you have the books arranged in the admin area. Can you send me admin login details via the contact form on our profile page (https://themeforest.net/user/websitesmash)? I’ll take a look and see if I can see what’s causing the problem.

- Eugene

Hi,

I’ve taken a quick look at your site to investigate the problem further. Unfortunately I don’t have a fix yet so I’ll have to continue testing things out today.

What I have found so far is that if you add a book to the Quick Reads series that that is already showing in another series the book (e.g. Deadly Gambit) the book will show up on the Quick Reads series archive. And the opposite happens if you try to add one of the books from the Quick Reads series to the Deadly Gambit series, the book does not show up. So at the moment I think think the problem is something in the specific books meta data that is preventing it from being shown on archive pages.

I’ll continue testing and get back to you when I figure out the issue.

EDIT:

I’ve figured out the problem. All the books that are added to a Book Series need to have a series number added on the Books edit screen. The number determines the order they are shown on the Series Archive. If the series doesn’t have an order you can just enter 0 or 1 and it should output them in the order the books were added to your website.

This does mean that it isn’t possible to add one book to two series, unless you are happy with the book having the same series number in both series.

- Eugene

Thanks so much! You’ve been a huge help.

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue with the mobile version of my site that means the bottom two fields in my menu (Contact, and Language) are difficult to see – they are lost and it becomes necessary to constantly scroll upward in order to see / access them

Please see the following screenshots:

What. we get: https://ibb.co/HNC6vJx

What is hidden: https://ibb.co/prtDYpH

Hi,

You have a lot of menu items so to access them all the user will have to scroll. The bottom links might be easier to access if you add some more padding to the bottom of the menu to compensate for the buttons that are at the bottom of the mobile browser:

@media only screen and (max-width: 1024px) {
.siteHeader-nav .siteHeader-menu .wp-custom-menu
{
padding-bottom: 100px;
}
}

- Eugene

Hello,

We are experiencing issues with your WP site with your theme – the top banner loads slower than the bottom text, and causes a ‘flashing’ effect when visiting the homepage – which looks unsightly for customers.

The website is

www.apex.lu

Do you have a fix for this issue? I have noticed several threads about this although none appear to be resolved,

I would appreciate a response asap as this issue is urgent

thank you

Hi,

This is an issue with the SiteOrigin Page Builder plugin, not the theme.

The height of each slide in the slider widget you are using as your home page header is set using JavaScript. This is so that the slider height can adjust for the height of each individual slide instead of being one fixed height.

The slide heights cannot be calculated until the page content has completed loading otherwise the calculation would not be accurate. This results in the flashing effect you see on slower connections as the header “snaps” from 0 height to the correct calculated height.

I can’t think of a way that would completely eliminate the flashing effect but you can reduce it by giving the slider a min-height in CSS. This won’t be a perfect fix because the min-height will still snap to the correct height once the page has loaded:

.sow-slider-image {
min-height: 500px; /*Min slide height */
}

Alternatively you can try giving the slides a default height but this will have the same issues as setting a min-height:

.sow-slider-image {
height: 500px; /*Default slide height */
}
You can add either of the piece of code above to any one of three places:
  • Go to the home page’s edit screen. Select the Edit Row button and add the CSS to the CSS Styles text box.
  • Go to Appearance > Customize in the admin dashboard and add the CSS to the Additional CSS option.
  • Add the custom CSS to your child theme’s style.css.

Hello, Is it possible to change the font for one specific element? I would like to change the font on the main visual of the home page. Is it possible to customize or use google fonts? many thanks, best

You would have to code it manually using CSS.
