Missing style sheet error when installing the theme

A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a "Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This error message does not mean that the theme you have purchased is broken, it simply means it has been uploaded incorrectly. Luckily, there is a very easy fix.

How do I get content to display in the jQuery featured slider?

Create a post, tag it “featured”, and make sure it has a featured image assigned (“post thumbnail” in Wordpress 2.9). The featured area is exactly 960px wide and 350px tall, so make sure the featured image matches those dimensions. If it doesn’t, Socket will automatically crop/zoom it to fit, so don’t worry about making it exactly those dimensions if you can’t.

How do I get content to display in the jQuery “marketing” slider located at the bottom of certain templates (e.g. template A, template B, and template G)?

Go to the widgets area and add content into the corresponding text widgets, which are: 1) Lower Slide 1 (1×1), 2) Lower Slide 2 (1×1), and 3) Lower Slide 3 (1×1). They will automatically rotate in the jQuery slider.

Twitter/Flickr is not showing up in the lower panels.

Socket can only display one unique Twitter and one unique Flickr panel on the page because of the way the jQuery plugins work. So, if you are showing Twitter and Flickr in the more panel, and then you select them for the lower panels too, they will not show up down there (since they show up in the more panel first)

How do I get content to display in the Portfolio templates?

The Portfolio templates look for posts with the category “Portfolio”, so you need to create that category and add it to posts. You can create subcategories of Portfolio and they will display on the menu at the top of the Portfolio templates. If you add a subcategory to a post, you don’t have to also give it the parent Portfolio category for it to show up in the Portfolio – as long as it has a subcategory assigned.

How do I use thumbnails for posts, pages, and portfolio items?

Use the “Post Thumbnail” feature in the right hand sidebar of the edit page to give a post or page a thumbnail. In Wordpress 3 this changes to “Featured Image”, but it still operates the same way.

It does not show up when I upload a custom logo.

There was a bug prior to 5/18/2010. If you downloaded the files before that date, please re-download the theme. The files that were affected were header.php and theme-options.php (inside the functions folder), so you only need to replace those two files.

I installed a plugin (like Disqus comments) and it shows up fine in all browsers except Internet Explorer.

You have an old version of Socket and you need to re-download the theme files. Any version before 5/19/2010 will contain this error.

When I save the Socket options page, I get an error that says I don’t have sufficient permissions.

That is an error with Socket. If you downloaded Socket during the week of 5/24/2010, you most likely got the version with this error. You need to download the newest version of Socket and replace your functions/theme-options.php file with the new one. Or, you can contact me and I can send you just that file if you prefer.

After upgrading to Wordpress 3 my flash slider images no longer work!

You need to do two things to fix this: 1) download the latest Socket theme files from ThemeForest and replace your existing ones (or you can just make the change in the code: open featured.php and change line #21 to flashvars.imageSource = "<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>/";), and 2) add files/ to the front of your featured post image URL custom field values. So, you would change it from 2010/06/image.jpg to files/2010/06/image.jpg.

How do I get content to display in the flash (Piecemaker) featured slider?

Do this the same way as jquery (tag it “featured”) with one difference – you can’t use the post thumbnail (“featured image”) for the image, you have to use a custom field. Add a custom field to the post named “image”. For the value, enter the URL of the image but remove the root part of the URL (and the forward slash ”/”). So, if the actual image URL is “” then you would put “files/2010/05/slide_5.jpg” into the custom field value.

How do I get my content into more than one column for templates that have a multiple column layout (templates A – H), like the front page of the demo?

Edit the page and in the visual editor you need to use the Heading 2 (h2) tag to start each column, which will split the content into a new column. So, for 2-column templates you will need to use two Heading 2 tags, and for 3-column templates you will need to use three of them. In code view, for the 3-column layout it would look something like this:

<h2>Header Text</h2> ...content here... <h2>Header Text</h2> ...content here... <h2>Header Text</h2> ...content here...

My featured slider is not showing up even though I have posts tagged “featured” with images assigned as explained above.

Check to see that the slug for your featured tag is “featured” and not “featured-2” or something else. This usually only happens if you have a category already named “featured”. Categories and tags in Wordpress cannot have identical slugs. Change the slug of your featured category to “featured-3” or something else, and then change the slug of your featured tag to “featured” and your slider should show up.

My portfolio items aren’t opening up with the lightbox/colorbox effect.

Open header.php and move line #153 $('.portfolio-item a').colorbox(); to after line #154 });.

How can I get the flash slider to display specified pages instead of featured posts?

Open piecemakerXML.php and replace line #37 which currently looks like this:

‘tag’ => ‘featured’,

And replace it with this:

‘post_type’ => ‘page’, ‘post__in’ => array(19,21),

Inside the array, enter a comma separated list of page ID’s that you wish to display.

When I share a blog post using Facebook Share, the post thumbnail does now show up. How do I fix this?

Open custom.php (located in the functions folder inside Socket) and scroll down to the very bottom and insert the following code BEFORE the closing ?> tag:

function get_social_img() {

global $post;

if ( is_single ()){

$image = wp_get_attachment_image_src( get_post_thumbnail_id($post->ID), full );

<link href=”<?php echo $image0; ?>” rel=”image_src” />

add_action(‘wp_head’, ‘get_social_img’);

How can I get support for Socket?

Please no longer use ThemeForest to ask support questions. Instead, use the Support Forum which will enable me to respond in a more efficient manner. Thanks!
