I’m having trouble with the Anything Slider on the homepage in IE7. The slider images don’t load and the images at the bottom look like they’re trying to load and never do. This is not an issue in any other browser but IE7.
Please advise! Thanks.
IE7. Really? Only 1/10th of 1% of the world actually still has ie7, and you are in NY where the percentage is essentially zero! So I am not quite sure why this is important?
I will nonetheless add this to the review list for the next update of Striking Regular.
BTW, Themeforest has dropped support requirements for IE6-8, fyi. Its only because Striking has been around for 3 years that you see older browsers supported, themes from the last year or so don’t bother.
I would in fact recommend you jump to Striking Responsive, and even in it we do provide some support for older browsers, although of course many modern css3 and js techniques don’t work in these older browsers. But I would think an increasing portion of your website traffic is mobile platform based, and thus a responsive site would be appropriate.
Should you have any other questions on this or any other matter, please post at our support forum. We do not provide theme support in these comments and I only replied this extensively here due to my surprise that anyone cared about that old dinosaur.
The .pdf provided, under the installation section, says I need to have PHP 5.2.4 & MySQL 5.0 in order for striking to function properly. I am not a technical person. Where do I get PHP and MySQL and is it free? Is there a link for me to follow to find it and download it? Stupid question, I know:)
These are provided by your hosting provider. It is the backbone of your hosting environment. So you do not have to do anything. Virtually all modern hosting environments use these versions of PHP and MySql.
I’m wanting to use a splash page for my site. Is this possible and if so, is there a tutorial/instructions on how to do this?
If you switch over to Striking Responsive, it has a basic landing page template included.
If you have any questions about this please go over to our Striking Support forum, per the support policies noted in the support tab above, register and post your questions there.
The instruction .pdf provided, on page 3, mentions I need to verify my installed Wordpress version is 3.2 or higher. I think mine’s old. How do I verify this and how do I install a newer version?
The version of WP you are using is noted right in the WP dashboard home. The “Right Now” metabox notes the types of content you have ->pages, posts, categories, etc, and then underneath it gives you the theme name and the version of Wordpress you are using.
My current website is a flash site I purchased from www.bludomain.com and I host through them (blu?) as well as pay for my domain through them. I’m concerned switching from them to not them is going to be problematic. A couple questions:
1) Do you have any tips on how to make this a smooth transition?
2) Do you recommend I keep my hosting and domain through them?
In respect of this question I ask that you post on our support forum and one of our support team will endeavor to assist you.
As per the policy noted in the Support Tab above, we provide our theme support via our own dedicated support forum.
Hello Strinking Team,
I have a question. I installed Striking yesterday and everything seemed to be going well—until I logged out. Now when I attempt to visit my site all I receive is an error message. It doesn’t make sense, since all I was doing was editing pages. Any suggestions?
Dear Striking Team,
My previous note may have been a false alarm. My page is not suddenly back. It might have been a problem with my host site. Thank you for an outstanding job. I love Striking!!
Glad it is resolved. Should you have any further questions, please post over at the support forum, so we can assist you better. If you need alternative hosting suggestions, we can make suggestions to you in our forum.
Thanks for the compliment on the theme.
I purchased your theme a year ago and I just updated to wordpress 3.6. and now when I go to the theme to add a Logo through the (General) Striking Tab it doesnt Allow me. This error pops up “Cheatin’ uh?”
Can you please help me with this. What do I have to do
You need to update your Striking to the latest version as well. Which for Striking Regular is version 5.2.1.
Should you have any further questions in respect of this or any other matter, please register at the support forum and ask your questions there. As is very clearly indicated in the Support Tab above and in the Item Description, the forum is where we support our users. The comments section here at Themeforest is only for questions from prospective buyers.
Looking at the theme demo and some of the sites you list using the theme
One of the sites is http://cigzululand.co.za/ but it seems VERY different to the theme demo. For example the menu seems very different, it’s lower and the menu stays on screen even when you scroll down.
Is it just heavily customised? Or does that site no longer use the theme?
That is because, as per the explanation given just above that list of sites, those users have jumped to the responsive beta version of Striking. Our responsive version is a free update of Striking. It has been in development for several months now, and users have been converting to it as they became comfortable. Now about 10% of the user base has converted and more are doing so every day as we have now settled into the final pre-release stages ->the beta has been set, and we are working on the ancillary matters such as new demo content, and new content for our Themeforest demo and sales page.
So anyone purchasing Striking at this time has a choice, they can build their site using Striking 5.2.1 which is a regular fixed width theme, or they can surf over to our support forum, and then follow the links for downloading the free upgrade to the responsive version. Most recent purchasers have gone straight to the responsive version, as it has many, many new features.
Even though Striking Responsive uses different coding and a different framework, users are able to do a theme switch from Striking 5.2.1, and retain all their content, settings, colors, fonts, and everything else other then when a feature has not carried over from one to the other version. We wrote our code so that our users can jump without hassles. We have a forum thread on the methodology.
Here is sort of a rough estimation of the difference in abilities:
If Striking 5.2.1 is baseline at 100%
then Striking Responsive is about 250% of abilities in respect of the baseline.
As for that particular site zululand insurance, the only custom feature in it is the site is using custom icons for the social icons. Everything else i see on the front page is stock to Striking Responsive. In fact, the site is using only a small portion of the responsive theme abilities, but that is expected. I would be surprised to find any one site that uses more then 40%-50% of what Striking Responsive contains in feature sets, but this provides users more flexibility in respect of design as a result. No two sites have to look the same.
I hope this answers your question(s). Striking users essentially are running with two separate versions of Striking at this time, according to their choice. This will continue until we formally update Striking here at Themeforest to the responsive framework, at which point Striking Regular will no longer be available.
I purchased Striking for a client but I am unable to see in the forum where or how to upgrade to the responsive theme.
I had posted some questions via private message but haven’t heard back so I’m wondering if my messages are not going through (I find the forum a bit confusing and overwhelming). I am a relative newbie so if this is a complicated update, I will may need some guidance.
I also have a new client who really likes Striking but before I purchase it for them I want to be sure that a new purchase will be of the responsive theme. I also have some very specific questions about whether some customizations my client is seeking are built in to the theme:
1. Can the navigation bar tabs be set to different colors? In other words can “home” be blue and “about” be purple and “services” be aqua?
2. Can the drop down menu backgrounds be coordinated with the tab colors?
3. Can social icons be placed at the top right above the nav bar?
4. Can the drop down boxes have rounded edges?
My client likes a site done in a different theme but the customizations she wants are not built in to that theme. The site they like is http://baosmoothies.com They don’t want to pay for a completely customized site, which I could’t do on my own anyway, so I’m wondering how close I can get with Striking.
Hi James. THANK YOU!
This is, without a doubt, the best team and the best theme on Theme Forest! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all of my questions with patient, clear explanations.
I am just finishing up my first site in Striking and am about to purchase the theme for use on a second client site.
If anyone is hesitating on purchasing this theme, I can promise you that you will not find a more thoughtful design or better customer service anywhere. Buy it!
So excited to have found you guys!
I’ve been building wordpress sites for a few years now and this is the best theme I ever purchased. A steal at $55 and very happy to hear that the responsive upgrade to the theme will be included for free for all buyers of the standard theme. A ton of functions and a VERY extensive, yet not overwhelming admin menu like I’ve never seen before.
I really like this theme. The example pages and templates look fantastic. I am however, pretty disappointed in it’s usability myself. When I purchased it, it read as though anyone of any skill level could produce a site with this theme. This is not the case. I am by no means an expert but I have basic to moderate skills in web maintenance and have managed an already established company website before, but I simply cannot build this from scratch myself. I’m now going to have to go to a professional web developer to do most of the work, which I thought I would be able to avoid.
I’ve only contacted support once for an issue which I have since resolved myself, but that was weeks ago, and rather than a simple reply, I received nothing.
First let me apologize, I regret we missed your thread issue. You did post on the support forum? I cannot find any user by your user name and our signup instructions are for users to employ the same name as they utilize here at Themeforest.
In respect of usability, we do have some videos which might assist you. But we provide live support for when a user really runs into trouble, which of course we would be willing to do for you as well. We have thousands of users who possess only the most rudimentary of knowledge and yet have succeeded with Striking. We like to think everyone can, but we know that occasionally, the process just goes completely astray for a user. When this happens, we are more then prepared to jump in, even with a one on one tutorial if necessary to get the user back on track.
I will add btw that our responsive beta has significantly more fleshed out help fields. Striking Regular has a 48 page pdf document found in the document folder of your download, but it is out of date – we have added many features since it was created, and updated the admin as well. The responsive beta – which is free for you – follow the links on the forum to obtain it, has the help built right into the theme.
I ask that you please go to the forum, and create a new thread, and reference this Themeforest conversation. I will see the thread and reply to you with arrangements to connect on skype.
I’m having an issue with the home page slider on wordpress 3.6. The images load but the slider does not work / change.
My site is at http://wunderbarkids.com/
I have a feeling it is because of the version of jquery on it but it could be otherwise.. I’ve tried different options mentioned on ure support forum at http://kaptinlin.com/support/ but could not get it to work. Please help.
Sorry but I cant find any purchase code to register on ure forums too can u help me to find that.. I tried the instructions on the registration page of the forums but I dont see license certificate on my downloads page.. could be a change on themeforest
Please go to this link:
I checked your homepage, and I see several errors via our developer console although i cannot yet determine the cause. Pending your registering for the support forum I suggest you do the following:
a) reinstall Striking by ftp
b) reinstall wordpress which you do via the dashboard
c) Go to the Striking Advanced panel and toggle the “Clear Cache” setting to ON and then save the panel.
As I am certain you are aware, what is happening is not normal, so it gets down to nailing the cause. If you continue to have problems with obtaining your license certificate then contact themeforest support for assistance on the matter.
In regards to the contact box… Is there a option for phone number?
Hi jrcreative group
The contact form widget does not have a phone number field. While we do have some threads on the forum about modifying the widget, our normal recommendation to a user is that if they require more complex contact forms that they use a 3rd party plugin.
What is the best way update my theme from 5.1.5 to 5.2.1. Please advise as I need to update today?
I want to retain all of my settings, colors, logos, etc. and all wordpress/theme settings when I update.
I saw something about “Exporting Striking Options Data” in the admin, but am not sure and can not risk losing my settings and other options i have set.
Please get back to me ASAP. Thank you.
Hi jt webdesigns
Since you are jumping from a version that old, we normally suggest you update the theme by ftp, rather then updating using the internal update function found in the Striking Advanced Panel/Update your Striking Theme Tab.
If you have any questions about updating by ftp, or on any other matter, we request you go to our support forum, register (takes 30 seconds to do) and post a new thread, and one of the support team members will reply to you.
The forum also provides access to the free responsive beta of Striking for all license holders.
My 2nd question is probably easier:
I d like to insert a video always appearing on the top of my homepage, which means on the top of my blogposts page.
Is it possible to do that with your theme?
Can I ask you to please go register at our support forum per our support policy (as noted in the Support Tab above) and start a thread and we will assist you.
I will add very briefly that I see some errors in the developer console, and I think you have a plugin conflict. But at the support forum a team member can assist you properly. Please just copy and paste your comment above into the your post.
amm, if I get striking update, I get the responsive striking too?
whow I can configure it??
Your a member of the support forum so why don’t you follow ask the question over there where one of us can assist you?
The forum has complete instructions in the Beta Release thread on what to do and how to obtain the responsive release. If you have any issues with installing please post in the update thread and one of the team members will reply.
Hey James …
It looks like my post may have gotten lost up above … since I see that you have answered some other posts in the last few hours that were made 11 hours after my post. My apologies for the double post if you had already read this … just trying to solve what seems to be a simple issue … where I know I’m just not doing something correctly.
I purchased over a week ago. Not sure why the purchase badge isn’t appearing.
Love the theme … it’s very well organized. The PDF in the documentation folder could be a little clearer. But I read on your support forum it is pretty outdated and you have made a lot of changes to the shortcodes and such.
So I’ve been working on a site … and all seems to be going smoothly with one exception. When we made a Portfolio page … it seems to not be working perfectly.
The Portfolio Items work fine (these pages display proper video and images). But when we click on the Portfolio page with the thumbnails … the images pop up properly in the lightbox window … however the videos do not.
I’ve tried everything I can think of … but it’s still not working. Any thoughts?
Basically … in the Edit Portfolio Item … I’ve set the “Portfolio Categories” to “Video”
Set the “Portfolio Type” in the “Portfolio general Setup” to “Video”
In the Portfolio Type:Video tab … i set the “Video Link for Lightbox” to the youtube full url link
Thanks a lot in advance for all your help.
We did indeed miss the post. I just replied to it moments ago – we don’t normally provide support here per our Support Policy noted in the Support Tab above, so we don’t check these comments all that regularly.
In any case as I indicated in the other response that I think you are not setting up the video portfolio item correctly, and if you can post on the forum, we will assist you over there.
There is a serious problem when using Striking in combination with The Events Calendar Plugin as I posted on the support page of Kaptinlin. Its concerning the dropdown selection lists in the backend when managing events of TEC, they get corrupted and cannot be used.
Event managing plugins are not some kind of little add-ons. In my case the events management represents the core functionality of the desired website, so I can’t accept when a premium theme developer as kaptinlin says: ”...i cannot say that or if we even can fix this as our main focus is on releasing the themes and after that we focus on plugins..
Then you have to say this publicly: Striking is incompatible with The Events Calendar Plugin.
If that’s really true I cannot use Striking!
Yes, you are correct, the Events Calendar Plugin is incompatible with Striking. Actually, its up to plugins to be theme compatible not the other way around fyi.
Events Calendar uses Chosen js, which conflicts with select js we use in Striking. In fact regretfully it will conflict with many premium themes that rely on select js for nav select funtions in both the front and admin of their themes.
The response you quoted above from one of our support team members is correct – we are finalizing the build out of Striking Responsive, after which we are going to attempt to see if we can build custom “bridges” to enable certain plugins that are not compatible with Striking “out of the box” to work. But normally such work cannot be done until the core theme is finished, which Striking Responsive is still in beta, although what we are doing at this time is code smoothing – a final stage prior to our final themechecks, plugin checks and official release.
A a multipurpose theme, Striking Responsive is compatible with thousands of plugins, and users have posted a huge list of compatible plugins in a forum thread. In fact we suspect we are compatible with more plugins then most high level premium responsive themes as we have done lots of work in the buildout to ensure widespread plugin compatibility – we are confirmed compatible with a wide variety of ecommerce, form, forum, SEO, and translation plugins (and they can be used at the same time in the theme). When I view the most popular downloads over at the codex, I think we are compatible with every plugin on that list.
FYI, we have installed your plugin with an eye to working on debugging and attempting to provide a bridge in the next few days. I know you likely needed a quicker resolution, but you are the only Striking user of this plugin, whereas most of our users have the 3CEvents plugin from Codecanyon installed. Striking Responsive is compatible with 3Cevents (and we even have a fix for it posted on our forum since it has a wp 3.6 issue). I was hoping to respond to your forum thread in the forthcoming days with our outcome but I guess our timeframe was not soon enough for your purposes.
We will proceed with our analysis of this plugin in any case and post our results, and solution if we have one, once we have undertaken the work. Look for it in your forum thread should you still be interested.
Just a heads up for you that we did turn to the matter of this plugin as we indicated we would at the appropriate time, and wrote some code in Striking to deal with the plugin matter, and so now we can say publicly Striking is compatible with The Events Calendar Plugin!
Its still not compatible with many other premium themes however, we tested it in a few we own and the results were dismal -> this plugin is really only intended for the default wp theme. In the normal course of business we would suggest to users to use another events plugin then this one for calendar matters. In any case, resolved…....
That means you have an update for striking_r? Where can I get it?
Thank’s in advance
We released it last night, and of course all the notices, links, etc are on the forum in the announcement threads.
sorry but I havn’t found any download link for the latest release of striking_r in the forum – please give me some kind of hint!
Go to All Discussions, and just below the header announcements in the forum is the latest beta release announcement thread, and the link is in the thread.
Any issues, post on the forum!!! We see those much more quickly then our occasional jump to Themeforest.
My drop down menus are going under the slidershow http://lnxwebs08.cpt.wa.co.za/~rep13/
You are using an old responsive beta ver .9.7.9 from April. Can you please update to the current version: 0.9.9 dd 15 Aug 2013 which can be found at the download site:
and then confirm back that your matter is resolved.
If it is not then please post at the support forum, and we contact you via your forum thread and examine the issue.
As noted in our Support tab above, we provide theme support only via our forum, not through the comment thread here at Themeforest.
