CSS grid, “stretch” not working :(

I have 3 icon boxes in a grid but they are not stretching to be the same size as per your article https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/equal-height-icon-boxes/

DEMO – https://travelport.dev/contact (go6 as the password)

Hi,

Technically the child elements are stretched the issue is that the Icon Box specifically when you add a link wrap to the whole element it gets added outside of the icon box to prevent issues with the icon box flex model – https://a.cl.ly/RBumyzZQ – so your backgrounds are inside an inner element.

The fix is simple though…Example:

.vcex-grid-container > .wpb_animate_when_almost_visible,
.vcex-icon-box-link-wrap {
    display: flex;
    flex-direction: column;
    flex-grow: 1;
}

.vcex-grid-container > .wpb_animate_when_almost_visible .vcex-icon-box,
.vcex-icon-box-link-wrap .vcex-icon-box {
    flex-grow: 1;
}

I don’t think there should be any issues with adding the flex and flex grow utility classes by default in the Icon Box to the css animation and link wrappers, let me do that and test it out and if I don’t see any issues I’ll send you the updated template for the icon box element.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

- AJ

Here is the updated template – https://a.cl.ly/GGuKEydp – you can download, extract and replace under total-theme-core/inc/vcex/templates/

I can’t think of any case where these changes would cause any harm so I will be pushing the changes out in 5.4.4

- AJ

Actually there is no need to use flex-direction: column…here is a slimmed down version of the update: https://a.cl.ly/bLuBxyb7

Could you all please add Reddit to the social links block? Kinda crazy it’s not there – Reddit is the #11 social site in the US and #16 in the world.

In the meantime, is there a way for me to add it manually?

Ok, I finished adding the Reddit option – https://a.cl.ly/YEukBvpD – if everything goes well the update will be live tomorrow – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/upcoming-update-changelog/

Now that’s what I call service – timely, to the point, and above and beyond! Thanks, and I’m looking forward to the update!

I’m doing the final checks before pushing out the update live, thank you for your patience!

Hi Aj, i don’t have any “testimonial” in my dashboard and i don’t know why. I have “portfolio”, “events” but no testimonial. Do i have to install a pluggin to see it ? Thank you !

Hi,

It’s probably disabled in the main Theme Panel: https://a.cl.ly/JruoGAB7

The theme includes Portfolio, Staff and Testimonials built-in but I also did make a free plugin if you want to add different/custom post types and have more control: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/adding-custom-post-types/ – some customers actually disable the built-in ones like Portfolio then re-add it with my plugin because it provides more customizability.

Can you provide how to insert “https://www.anysite.com” as the custom login URL inside this ‘add a login / logout code’ string? [wp_login_url text=”Login” logout_text=”Logout”]

Hi,

This is AJ the theme author. Here is an example:

[wp_login_url text="Login" logout_text="Logout" login_url="https://www.anysite.com"]

And here us the shortcode docs so you can see all available shortcode attributes: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/login-loggout-shortcode/

Hi AJ, I would like to show a css class only for admin users. Could you help me with a snippet, please? The div css class is “mep-event-attendee—list” , and it is generated by a plugin (i.e., it is not a section on a page, it’s the registered attendees of each particular class). Thanks a million. Lorell

Hi Lorell,

WordPress by default adds a “logged-in” class to the body tat so you could target your element like this:

body:not(.logged-in) .mep-event-attendee—list { display: none !important; }

Now, this would be visible for anyone logged in, if your site has users that aren’t admins so you only want to hide it from non-admins you would need to actually add code to your site to insert a class to the body tag like “is-admin” so you can target it – https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/body_class/

But hiding it with CSS isn’t “ideal” the best would be to remove the content completely if not an admin, have you asked the plugin developers if there is a hook/filter you can use so that the content is only displayed to admins?

Hello, i’m going to ask many questions cause i really don’t know how the theme works ! The first question : i made a logo on Canva (500 px X 500 px, PNG) and i tried to put it on the homepage. The background is transparent. But the result is bad : a big white space on the top and below. I changed the size on Canva (smaller), i wrote a size max on “logo” (“customize”, “appearance”, “header”, “logo”) but it didn’t change anything. Somebody has an idea ? Many thanks !

I see your new comment, glad you got it working!

- AJ

Hi, I just purchased your theme and for some reason my image logo is not displaying. I went into customizer->header->logo and uploaded .jpg of the logo and nothing shows up. Not sure how to resolve this. Thanks for your help.

I’ve submitted a support ticket requesting you with login instructions. I followed the instructions but the logo still does not resize. I must be doing something wrong. And you were right, I had text transform to capitalize!

Got it! I deleted the retina logo and it works fine now! Thank you!

Ah, ya that would do it ;)

Sometimes customers will import a demo and it has a retina image but don’t notice or delete the image in the media library but it’s technically still “set” in the customizer.

Thanks for letting me know, I’ll make sure to close the ticket,

- AJ

Hi there, quick question. Is there a way to increase the font sizes of all body copies at once? The customizer option is not working.

Hi,

This is Aj the theme author.

There is no known bug with the customizer. I recorded a video to show you: https://a.cl.ly/nOuXvw2P

When you define the font-size in the Customizer make sure you are setting a proper unit (px, em, rem, etc). Perhaps you were just entering numbers without the unit?

If you still have issues though can you share the URL so I can see what could be going on (perhaps there is some custom CSS on the site that is overriding the Customizer). Thanks!

- AJ

Actually I apologize, the customizer Typography settings do fallback to pixels if you don’t enter a unit. I forgot I had updated the typography panel to do that ;)

So it should just work.

If you are having issues though, the other possibility is if you imported a specific demo I may have created a custom template for the blog that has it’s own font size. For example the Bryce demo – https://total.wpexplorer.com/bryce/ – has a custom blog template and I made the blog post font size larger than the default site font size (which is a common thing to do) so you would instead edit the post template like this – https://a.cl.ly/o0uGPp0L (or remove the custom font size from the template so it takes on the Customizer value).

Anyway, I just wanted to add that extra info just incase and to prevent any confusion with my last reply. But if you still can’t get things working, if you can share the URL I should be able to tell you right away what’s going on or if possible provide a bit more context, like does the font size change in the Customizer but not the live site, is it not changing anywhere, did you try disabling any 3rd party plugins…etc. Thanks!!

Hi Aj,

Please check this

https://www.loom.com/share/51eb1a259f4d4fc29d8232fa3a17e5ad

There is something wrong with some heading in templates.

Thanks

Ok, I see how the customizer margin field could break things, but I can’t really think of a good fix. I actually think it would probably be best to remove the margin field from the Headings typography tab to prevent issues, of course if anyone used it before they would need to add CSS to the site to re-add their tweak.

I will keep thinking, but if you have any suggestions please let me know, thanks!!!

Hi, maybe you could exclude h2 headings inside elements with class like vc_layout_* from get some customizer settings.

PD: please, check a video i sent you to support when you can, of course.. (Adrian should assign it to you ;;)

Hi,

Well, by default the h2 typography settings shouldn’t affect the heading element unless you’ve enabled that and the issue is only with the margin. So maybe just exclude the margin portfolio of the settings. But my concern is that preventing the margin from being applied does fix alignments but can also break previous customizations (like id you weren’t aligning any headings but had added a custom margin). So really what I need to do is exclude the margin from being applied to headings that have the “aligncenter” class. The issue though is the Typography class is coded very efficiently in a way where all the CSS is combined into a single location and single target so it can really bloat things up to do this…I’ll need to really think about it.

And also I wouldn’t want to exclude all elements, just the Heading element (ps: all Total elements have a class named “vcex-module” if you did need to target them at some point).

I appreciate the feedback, I’ll keep thinking about that.

Yes, I am going to go through tickets in a bit ;)

Hello, AJ. Starting from version 5.3.1, I stopped receiving Total updates in the wordpress admin panel. My license is active. What could be the problem with updating the theme?

Hi,

The updater is still working correctly (I actually do a test before pushing out any update to make sure). By any change did you delete all the default WP themes (like Twenty Twenty Two)? WordPress always requires that you have at least 1 of the default themes installed so it can use it as a fallback if a theme update fails. Usually when I see customers having issues with the auto updates it’s because they deleted all the themes on the site except for Total.

Hi AJ. I hope you are well.

I’ve been using Total for a few years on my first website and I love it. I’m starting a new site and want to buy Total for it as well. Before I do, however, do you have a demo you can recommend for an author (fiction) website? Thanks. :)

Nyx1961 Purchased

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I just want to use that site and others like it as a guidline. I’m only going to have one novel to start with, due to be out in October, so I’m going to have a closer look at your demos and go from there. It’s good to know that Total is on sale and that you’re available for freelance work as well.

You can pretty much do anything with Total so don’t limit yourself to my demos (my demos aren’t very good, but like I said that’s going to be my focus right now). Dribble is a good place for inspiration. Also I’m going to be using squarespace for a lot of my inspiration as I make new demos (like this one I recently posted – https://total.wpexplorer.com/worship/) – so cleaner/simple designs. So if you see anything on that website you like let me know as well, maybe I’ll create something similar. I’m not just blatantly going to copy demos, but there is nothing wrong with using other sites for inspiration. And you can’t really trademark simple design ;)

Nyx1961 Purchased

That’s a nice theme, AJ. I’m after a bit cleaner for my new site. I just like to have a demo to use as a springboard because I’m an intermediate user and sometimes struggle figuring things out. I used your Corporate demo to build my Pagan website, https://www.greenwitch.ca/ and had to get help from you a few times. It looks completely different from the demo, though. I’ll get this new site figured out, in between novel revisions.

Post Type Grid Offset not working

Hi,

This is AJ the theme author.

It’s working correctly when I test, I recorded a video to show you: https://a.cl.ly/4gur2vA5

Now, there is a known issue with WordPress where the offset won’t work if pagination is enabled – https://codex.wordpress.org/Making_Custom_Queries_using_Offset_and_Pagination – but the theme has it’s own custom code to prevent that issue.

I wonder if perhaps your site is very outdated so it doesn’t have that patch – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/changelog/

The only other thing I could think of is that perhaps your posts are sticky and so when you use offset it still displays the sticky posts so it may not seem to be working.

Those are the only 2 things I can think of off the top of my head without actually inspecting the site.

Hi AJ

Is it possible on Mobile phone view make the top header, logo, burger menu stick to the top of the page when scrolling through the page.

Also can the logo be centralised on mobile view

and can the burger menu be put to the left rather than the right hand side

Thanks

Chris

Also for the

“If you select the new Mobile Menu toggle position shown here – https://a.cl.ly/rRuOGgx7 – added in Total 5.4 you can have both a left hamburger icon and a centered logo. Just note, that this only works with the newer Flex header styles.”

Not sure what the flex header style is?

Hi AJ

The menu colour issue may actually be an issue with CHROME, I’m experiencing issues with c=Chrome and various websites.

I’ll let you kow if this ois still and issue.

(If you can still advise on the Menu issue, Flex Header and making the Hamburger to the left, which Im still unable to do.

Thanks

Hi Chris,

  • For the color issue it sounds like a caching problem. Most likely you have removed script versions from your css files which means the browser is caching old files so you need to clear the browser cache. Without looking at the URL it’s impossible for me to know.
  • The “Flex Header” styles are new options when choosing your header style, please see here: https://a.cl.ly/z8um1Yvm

Another amazing release. (Love the subheading tag selection from heading element and enhancements to the parts we spoke about )

Just 3 small issues from my side so far:

1. I appreciate not 100% Total related but it is only happening since latest update of total – when I include a Templatera block, (no matter which one) the custom CSS of the page duplicates and adds again just above the templatera block.

2. Since latest update I am getting a main menu flicker after load, see https://go6.media/ and watch the top nav (I have tried to use your gutter / padding settings to combat this but nothing is working) we use WP rocket caching which could be conflicting but either way this didnt happen in the previous version

3. I love the enhancements to the single portfolio items ( i have to undo all my ACF customisations now to use yours which i would prefer to do ) You have a field called Company URL which in my case we will use for Project url (for web design projects) I would say please update some docs to say to use this , you need to type wpex_portfolio_url (because the field was called Company URL) which may cause confusion?

ps what is the shortcode now to include the post excerpt?

I’m thinking it was due to the gutter direction swap, but likely the issue was there before just less visible.

That is the plan, to make a sh*t ton of demos for different niches then I’m going to have specific landing pages for each niche so I can target them specifically which will help with conversions.

Well. If you need help on design / UX or ideas in general i’m always happy to help and bounce ideas around. ✌✌

Sounds good ;)

Just knocked out this demo in a couple hours – https://total.wpexplorer.com/victor/ – since I don’t have any dark schemed demos yet. The goal is to release at least 2-3 demos each week this year and along with that make a free simple events and real estate plugin to use on theme demos as well.

Have a nice week and if you need anything at all let me know!

- AJ

Hi AJ

I have a Total website with a mobile menu alternative.

I have a requirement to build a page that has no menu at all. And not just hidden, it cannot be in the source code either *.

But I can’t find any way of getting rid of the mobile menu alternative from the source code. The Theme Settings have options to hide the menu, or hide the entire header, but neither actually remove the mobile menu from the source code.

I wondered if there was a neat function you could write, something like:

if page id = 999 don’t output mobile menu code

Thank you

  • the reason is I am setting up a Google Ads landing page. The website in question sells some items that by law cannot be advertised (controlled medicines). These items are in the menu and even if hidden Google Ads sees it in the source code and bans the landing page.

Hi,

This is Total, so of course there is code you can write for that ;)

add_filter( 'wpex_has_mobile_menu_alt', function( $check ) {
    if ( is_page( 9999 ) ) {
        return false;
    }
    return $check;
} );

But if you are using the theme’s Landing Page Template (which removes the header/footer for you) then you can change the code to be like this:

add_filter( 'wpex_has_mobile_menu_alt', function( $check ) {
    if ( is_page_template( 'templates/landing-page.php' ) ) {
        return false;
    }
    return $check;
} );

That way any landing page will automatically not have the menu alt. But in fact, the Landing Page template should already be doing this for you without the need for extra code.

Hi, I just wanted to update the latest version Total 5.4.3. Instead of Revslider 6.5.25 the package contains 6.5.24. So the theme is complaining ;-). Thank you for your help. I have been using this theme for ages and I still love it. Thank you!

ps: I did update the zip on ThemeForest, but it can take some time for the update to be accepted and live. I can’t push out automatic updates like when you update via the dashboard.

Hi AJ, thank you very much for your always super fast replies.

Reason why I update manually is, that it is easier to track back when something goes wrong. An old habit probably as I have been using WP for ages.

Gotcha. Usually I include the same versions on ThemeForest, but what happened in this case is Slider Revolution released an update literally minutes before I was going to push out my update and so I updated the main theme files and just forgot to update the zip. I’ll try not to forget next time!

- AJ

ps: If anything goes wrong when updating in the WP admin you could then fix it manually. Also I do a test with all the latest versions to ensure there aren’t any issues before sending them your way ;)

http://79.170.40.37/darrensfamilybutchers.co.uk/

Hi AJ Im developing a new site and the Revolution Slider is not displaying correctly and there is a grey area at the bottom of the slide/?

Can you help?

Thanks

Hey,

The extra space at the bottom is from the default column margin – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/wpbakery-column-margin/

The Slider itself shows correctly for me though, what display issue do you see?

That said, I see your slider is inside a row that has been stretched. I wouldn’t recommend that since the slider itself is also set to stretch it can create issues. See the notice at the bottom of this page: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/adding-sliders-top-pages/

But also it looks like the row with the slider has Parallax enabled, which is definitely not needed since you don’t even have a background image enabled on this section. Perhaps you started with a plan image and then was changing it to a slider? I would maybe recommend just inserting the slider in a new row so you start out with default row settings and just disable the bottom column on the row and give it the solid background color, I believe that’s all you really need.

Additionally this site is quite outdated so you don’t have the new optimizations in the theme for CSS stretched rows, css variables, etc – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/changelog/5-4/

- AJ

ps: The theme is 50% off right now if you did need to pick up a new license ;)

Hi AJ! I hope all’s been well!

I believe this is a question regarding a WPBakery feature.

I use the Single Image with CSS Fade-In a lot. Is it possible to add some CSS to the page so the fade-in takes a little bit longer to load for all images?

Thank you!

Frank frankbiganski.com

Hi Frank,

It is possible with some CSS. Example: ‘

.wpb_single_image.wpb_fadeIn.animated {
    animation-delay: 500ms; /* delay the animation */
    animation-duration: 2s; /* slow down the animation */
}

This example shows how you can change both the delay at which the animation starts but also the duration it takes for the animation. This CSS will also only target the single image element and the fadeIn animation.

- AJ

ps: Total also has it’s own “Image” element you can use instead if you rather use one of my elements and not a WPBakery core one. I’ve also released this plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-elements-for-wpbakery-page-builder/ – so you can disable any element you don’t use on your site to slim things down ;)

Thank you AJ! I think I’ll start using the Total elements whenever possible, and I’ll definitely download your WPBakery disable plugin. Thanks for bringing that to my attention! I’ve been using Total for 8 years but my old habits kept me from exploring and using all of the elements that are provided with Total. Thanks again! ~ Frank
