Fantastic theme I snapped it up as soon as i found it! However i have one question i cant figure out my self…
How do you set the Portfolio posts to come up as the landing page, as you do on your test gallery?
Thanks in advance
glad you find the theme fantastic! Thanks a lot for buying it!
I see that you already figured out how to make your homepage, before I got the chance to answer your question. You probably read the documentation in the meantime, which contains all of the instructions on how to setup the theme.
Oh, and by the way, looking good at the moment!
Best of luck,
Hi Mr. OnionEye,
I just have to say you have killed numerous hours of my time straining to pick this or your Equilibrium theme. I am at a standstill because there are a few things of each I wish you would combine. So maybe you can help me decide which would be a better fit.
I very much like this theme (especially because it is shiny and new). I am a photographer so images are top priority for me.
Equilibrium-Pro: First page has an intro slider
Yin Yang-con: No first page intro.
Is it possible to have a first page intro for my clients to be introduced to my site and have my portfolio as a secondary menu item? Or will the portfolio always be the home page?
Equilibrium-pro: the description is on the side and quick and easy to locate and read.
Yin Yang-con: The description is at the bottom of the image and hard to find…often requiring additional scrolling to find. Can the sections on the left be rearranged so the description is on the side and quick to read? I believe that the description is the top of the hierarchy of things to know about the images.
Equilibrium-con: blog page: small icon image, large area for text
Yin Yang-pro: blog page is image focused and text secondary.
I really like how you laid out the Yin Yang blog page with the circle dates large and the image big with text underneath. If I went with Equilibrium, is there a way to increase the size of the preview image and take up less space for text. I will likely have minimum text and want it image focused.
3b. Is it possible to remove the circle dates all together?
4. Question for both themes: Do the patterns work on top of the background image, or is each pattern a background image in itself. In other words, if I put in my own background image, can I have the patters sit on top of it?
5. I think the Yin Yang’s top and bottom screen hide-a-way things (excuse my lack of a proper technical term) are KICK ASS ! That is what is killing me. Any chance I can import that into the Equilibrium theme if I decided to go that route?
6. I’m sure I’m missing something else. I will ask if I remember.
Sorry for the long questions. Save me from my indecisiveness! Thank you again.
glad you are interested in my themes!
To help you decide which one suits the best for you, here are the answers to your questions:
1) You can set any of the pages as your homepage, really.
2) Don’t worry about this. Scrolling is an essential par of the web experience, and we all do it. Your users won’t miss the description, if, of course, they are interested in the displayed item. That’s just our everyday online behavior.
3) It is possible, but you would have to modify the code a bit to achieve this.
3b) Of course, but a few lines of adjustments to the code is required of you to modify it to your liking.
4) You have an option to easily upload your own background images for both of the themes, but in order to have two, or more background images at the same time, you would have to modify one or two lines of code.
Here’s a suggestion: why don’t you combine the backgrounds in photoshop and have them as one image?
5) This is possible; however, definitely a task for a developer.
6) Well, feel free to ask, if you come up with anything else.
That’s it! I hope this helps!
Have lots of fun working with the theme, if you end up buying it!
I asked you questions about this new theme of yours yesterday…then you answered them all within hours.
Now I just purchased this theme!
It hasn’t even been a week since this new theme was launched and you’ve already sold over 100! Great job, guys!
This is my first time buying a theme from you but I’ve seen your previous themes in the past and used to admire them.
I actually just bought a theme from Orman (another great WordPress theme designer/creator) about 2 weeks ago in order to update my online portfolio/blog. Then I saw your new Yin & Yang theme yesterday and ended up changing my mind to just go with yours.
I just wanted to let you know that this is one of my favorite minimal WordPress themes (one of the best I’ve seen so far)! Looking forward to playing with this new theme now.
Wow, you just made my day! Thanks a bunch for the awesome compliments, Jessica! They are truly appreciated!
Enjoy working with the theme and have a wonderful day,
I’m having problems with the portfolio on my home page. The preview image isn’t loading so it shows as a ? icon. I the image is big enough and I’m using the “file URL ” button.
glad you like the theme! Thanks a lot for purchasing it!
No worries about the portfolio preview images. This is just due to insufficient file permissions, that you can easily set right. Please read the “Image Resizing and File Permissions” of the docs, and follow the directions there to quickly solve this.
Hi, thanks for answering my previous question.
By using it as a product display, i meant for instance if I have 100 products in different categories. If I browsed under the ‘ALL’ tab, will there be 100 products listed to make it a very long page or I can select the number of products listed?
you are very much welcome.
All published items are displayed under the “All” tab. If you want to control which and how many of them are displayed there, you would have to modify the code of the theme. This is most definitely a task for a developer.
hi there, is there a way i can email you directly? TQ
opps i forgot there is a contact in your profile. sent you a message. thanks.
No worries. I just answered your email.
Hey this theme is great im making a list of 20 themes and then going through an elimination to get down to 1 for my website. The only thing i can see about this theme hurting its chances are the “mobile” aspects. Are you going to make this so it auto detects phones and tablets like the iphone and ipad and changes the theme to be optomized? JW! thanks!
glad you like the theme!
According to NetMarketShare ( http://www.netmarketshare.com/report.aspx?qprid=61 ), global usage of mobile devices to access the web is currently 6.73%, in relation to desktop devices, which are still at around 92.5%. However, I realize that the usage of mobile devices is a growing trend, so I’m currently mastering responsive design, to make my themes mobile friendly. I hope to master it in the following month, or two, so I can start producing awesome responsive themes, and possibly update this one as well to be responsive.
I just bought this theme, (it’s awesome!)
I’m trying to post a portfolio piece that has six different parts, however under image settings, there is only space to upload 5 images… Is there any way to modify this, so I can upload the entire project?
here’s the piece, I’m only able to post five images, of six.
Thanks so much!
glad you find the theme awesome! Thanks a bunch for buying it!
Due to the expanding on the maximum number of images for a single portfolio item being the most requested feature of the theme, I’m including this as the first update, which should start rolling out after the weekend.
It’s me again. I love everything about this theme except for…the maximum# of images I can have per portfolio item. In the documentation, you wrote that we can add maximum of five images per portfolio item to work properly.
Is there any way to change the maximum # of images I can have per portfolio item?
I haven’t started setting up the portfolio page yet (wanted to ask you about the maximum# first) but I can see that the dots shown at top left of the images within a portfolio item could be a problem (not working properly) if I have too many images. I’m okay with completely removing the dots from top left corner (just leaving the arrows at top right) if that means I can add more images.
Please let me know if adding more than 5 is possible. And if it is, can you please tell me what I need to do to make that work?
Glad you love the theme! Once again, thanks for buying it!
You will be glad to hear that due to the expanding on the maximum number of images for a single portfolio item being the most requested feature of the theme, I’m including this as the first update, which should start rolling out after the weekend. Hooray!
Have a great day,
Whew~ that’s really great to hear!
I can’t wait for the update!
For now, I will go with 5.
Thank you so much for your great support and hard work, OnionEye!
you are very much welcome, Jessica! Glad to hear you are thrilled about the update.
By the way, please consider rating the theme on your downloads page, if it’s not a big problem. It only takes a few seconds to do so.
Thanks in advance!
As for the rating, I already gave this theme 5 stars!
I would give it 10 stars if I could! XOXO
Great to hear that, Jessica! Thanks a lot!
By the way, the update should arrive sometimes around Wednesday, next week. I will announce it on twitter, so you can follow me there, if you want to, and if you have an account in the first place.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
Hello! I want to change the expression “read the rest” and translated into Spanish. What I have to change encoding and that file?
the easiest way to do this is to modify the mentioned text in the functions.php file, to whatever string of text you want.
child theme error.
I get this weird child theme error
Warning: require_once(/nfs/c01/h16/mnt/4820/domains/domain.com/html/wp-content/themes/yin_and_yang_our/admin/options-framework.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /nfs/c01/h16/mnt/4820/domains/domain.com/html/wp-content/themes/yin_and_yang/functions.php on line 23
Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ’/nfs/c01/h16/mnt/4820/domains/domain.com/html/wp-content/themes/yin_and_yang_our/admin/options-framework.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php-5.2.17/share/pear’) in /nfs/c01/h16/mnt/4820/domains/domain.com/html/wp-content/themes/yin_and_yang/functions.php on line 23
Any idea what happened?
I made a child theme with simply the css file saying
Theme Name: Ying & Yang – Our
Description: Child Theme of Yin & Yang, especially for Our
I checked the functions.php but I don’t see what’s wrong there…
great theme btw.
no worries. Just put the following functions file in your child theme directory and it will work as a charm.
By the way, glad you like the theme!
I bought your theme yesterday and it’s great !!! Thx a lot for this fabulous theme.
I ave only one problem, i can see the section “client” under the section portfolio. What’s wrong ?
It’s werd cause yesterday when i upload the theme i can see it and today not.
(sorry for my ugly english i’m french
glad you find the theme fabulous! Thanks for buying it!
As far as the clients section is concerned, it is only displayed if the image of the client logos is uploaded in the Theme Options panel. If you are sure already did that, check the mentioned panel again, to see if you have somehow removed the image, or reset the options all together.
Thank you for your reactivity. The section “client” was coming back just after i post my comment. Now everything is ok and it’s perfect
you are very much welcome! Glad things are perfect for you!
Have a wonderful day,
Is it possible to get this template as a regular web page instead of a WP-theme?
I just bought it but I wont be able to used otherwise. Usually there is always a non WP version included but this time is was not.
I’m honestly sorry, but I specialize only in developing WordPress themes—not HTML templates as well.
As far as I know, most of the theme authors, especially the most popular ones, only include the HTML templates as a bonus, if they have specifically developed it, and put it on sales in the “Site Templates” section of ThemeForest. However, nowadays, most of the authors don’t do that because HTML templates don’t sell even nearly as well as WordPress themes, and developing them only eats up serious amounts of time and resources, that could have been used to develop another awesome WordPress theme.
Once again, I’m sincerely sorry this has turned out to be not what you expected, but I urge you to check with the theme author the next time you decide to buy a theme, to see if they included what you need in the theme’s package.
Thank you for your understanding.
P.S. please let me know if I can help you with anything else.
It’s cool, but the only thing I would need you to do is to give me an address to somewhere you have published the site live. Doing that I can convert it myself.
Would be fantastic, we are working against a deadline today.
My private e-mail is: firstname.lastname@example.org
Excellent! Glad you understand, Micheal!
Here’s the live site: http://onioneyethemes.com/yin-and-yang/
By the way, I’m leaving the office now, so I won’t be available for at least 5-6 hours. If you need me for anything else, please feel free to shoot me an email, or post your question here, and I’ll give my best to reply as soon as I come back.
Some more questions:
-is there a way to limit the portfolio items on the front page?
In number and in categories.
-I changed the child and now it’s working, but there is one thing: i’ve set the background pattern and now, if i change it, nothing happens at all. I cleared cache, but it seems somehow the url is stuck
to answer your questions:
1) You can limit the overall number of portfolio items shown on the homepage, by entering a positive number in the following piece of code, found in the template-home.php file:
'posts_per_page' => '-1'
I hope this helps!
By the way, please respond to your own threads. It makes it easier for me, and for other people, to keep track of the comments. You can do that by hitting the reply button, found at the end of the first comment in the thread. Thanks!
Great theme and very easy to install and use! Question: where can you change the title of Clients and Portfolio mentioned on home. Also can you add extra fields in the portfolio such as Client name? Hope to hear from you.
Glad you find the theme great! Thanks for buying it!
Here are the answers to your questions:
1) You can change the mentioned titles in the template-home.php file.
2) Sure thing. Extra fields can be added in the portfolio; however, this is most definitely a task for a developer, since it requires some knowledge of HTML , PHP, and WordPress’ core functions.
I’m just setting up now and loving this theme! Very clean and nice.
Hopefully a simple question,
The background colour or pattern doesn’t seem to be working in my theme options / styling options control area. Changing the setting has no effect. Am I missing something or is this a known glitch?
I can switch the main layout in the same panel and this works….
glad you are loving the theme! Thanks a bunch for purchasing it!
If you want to define your own background image and a background color, you need to select the “None” value for the Background Pattern option, as stated in the description. However, if the patterns themselves are not working, then please read the “Permissions Of A Dynamic File That Contains Your Theme’s CSS ” section of the docs, and follow the direction there to battle this issue out.
Thanks for the response!
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to change my issue. To be more specific, I cannot change anything on the styling options page – not even the BG colour ( with the BG image/pattern set to none). I changed the permissions on the custom.php file to 777 and still nothing. Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks for your help,
have you tried clearing your browser’s cache after changing the background, and then looking at the site?
By the way, can I get a link to where the theme is installed, so I can take a look at it?
Yes, I have cleared the cache.
Here is a link : blknblu.ca
Thanks for taking a look!
Alright. Just took a look at it. I have the following questions for you:
1) which version of PHP are you running?
2) Are you comfortable with sending me your login credentials over the contact form on my profile page, so I can’t take a further look at this?
I’m in pages creating a contact section, and I was wondering if you had a contact page template similar to what is shown in the drop-down tab on the live preview?
Here’s the content of the demo’s contact page, that goes in the HTML view of the content editor, if you want to have the same formatted page as the one in the demo. You just need to change a few things, such as the email address and some other data.
Once you create the page with the mentioned content, you need to select it in the Theme Options panel, under the “Top Drop-Down Page” option, and voila, the tab containing the page will show up on your site!
I’ve purchased around 40-50 themes on here thus far and I can honestly say that this is by far one of the best. It’s truly a pleasure to work with…one of those themes that just makes your life easier. And sort of a breath of fresh air from some of these other themes that have several “video installations” that you need to go through just to set up the basics- or those themes that are just plain glitchy, leaving you totally frustrated.
Simply put- it’s visually rich, simple, easy to use, and still impressive looking and flexible enough to customize to your liking.
Thanks for the great work Onioneye
Wow. My day just went from being super average to super awesome! Thank you a million times for the incredible compliments! You have no idea how glad I am that you are satisfied with the theme so much!
Once again, thanks A LOT !
