Ok thanks for the info. I will purchase the file and get someone to convert the file.
Great, let me know if you have any questions.
Hi,
Will it be possible for you to do the conversion for me or do I have to purchase and outsource the conversion?
I’m sorry, but I’m unable to do the conversion for you since I haven’t had experience with ExpressionEngine before. You would need to outsource a developer who knows ExpressionEngine to do this for you.
Yes
Expression Engine ( http://expressionengine.com/) is based on HTML .
Then since this theme comes with a pure HTML version, I’d assume it could be used as the basis for an ExpressionEngine theme.
Hi, excellent work on this template, and I just wanted to say you handled the whole PHP /HTML thing brilliantly
I have a quick question for you, does your lightbox/prettyphoto support YouTube?
I have a project that I think this site would be perfect for but would definitly need the ability to show YouTube vids in a lightbox, preferably from text
Thanks in advance
Thanks!
So, you’d like to be able to insert a link in the post content and then have that link, when clicked, display a youtube video in an overlay lightbox? Look at this link and click the “test youtube link” and tell me if this is what you want: http://demos.brianmcculloh.com/continuum/2011/04/renault-answers-demand-with-laguna-monaco-gp-edition/
If so, that functionality is natively supported in Continuum, but you need to add one line to your javascript file which I can easily instruct you on how to do.
P.S., that will work on an image as well, it doesn’t have to be just text.
Let me know,
Thanks, Brian
oh. this is absolutely awesome template. thank you for your hard job.
Absolutely perfect for my startup, and i hope to order a unique design from you in the future
, because quality of that is just … well, extremely high!
Thank you and good luck, Nikolai
Thanks for the kind words! Glad it’s what you were looking for
can i request you for an additional page? i need a user showing page (like on facebook or myspace…) and it would be cool if you did it. how much does it will cost?
I would need to know more details about how exactly you want the page to display. Then, I could give you a cost estimate and put you on my schedule whenever a spot opens up. You can send further details to brianmcculloh@gmail.com
Hi,
Excellent Template, I am really lovin it.
Can you covert this template to Expression Engine.
Thanks
I don’t know, I’ve never used ExpressionEngine before. It’s just HTML , so if ExpressionEngine templates can be based on regular HTML , then I don’t see why not.
I agree with you guys. When I saw this template first this morning, i was truly astonished. I have a project on the shelf for a long time because I could not find an appropriate template for it so i designed it and was awaiting some time to write the code and create my own template. I change my mind. I am using your template instead.
Good work. Know when to ignore the critics.
Hey, that is great to hear! Thanks for the support.
I agree 100% with thefantasy.
The total MELODRAMA regarding the php file uplaod is a total joke people… As the author said, a 5 minute fix and the entire package is html.
Lets extend a little faith in the Envato reviewers also – they know what works and what is acceptable in seperate Theme Forest sections.
In my opinion, there was no attempt at deception wharsoever on the authors part.
The bottom line is this – we have a wonderfully superior theme here, jam-packed with beautiful features in a VERY slick design. Be a bit more appreciative and a little less outspoken before the author can reply.
...End rant!
Thanks for that!
OK, I have to say something about this template (hate calling it that cause it deserves a better classification). You did an OUTSTANDING job on this. I can only imagine how much time it took! Been on themeforest for a while and I buy ones that I really like (DUH!) This is no exception. The expandability on this is amazing. The feature set leaves me speechless. Hope to see more of your work soon. Will purchase this in the coming days. Wish you all the best in sales! Let me know if you have a deviantart account as well (unless its against TF rules).
Wow I really appreciate the kind words! (and no, I don’t have a deviantart account… yet…)
Men, you work to hard in this theme.
Good luck
Thanks!
Hey I am fine with this
I will wait for the update, I did try to rename to html but i saw all the include files so I thought this was a different version ( It says html version and i dot not read further to actually see the mention of php files. I am accustomed to see php files in html versions but mostly related to simple add-on functions like sending mails and such. not to this extend.
As i said in my first comment I was waiting for this to become html file ( or convert the php file to html myself ) so when I saw this one mentioned it was an easy click buy not reading through the whole description since I loved the php version when it first appeared, so small error on reviewers art your part and my part for not reading right
I am definitely not claiming dishonesty ( and i actually bought the file ) here but simple different matter op opinions and I see your point as ell but keep up this work and I will probably buy each html template you release
Looking forward to the updated files
The update is now live!
thanks for the effort in bringing the update, the whole drama thing was not on my end I just wanted to know for sure what i Bought no disappointment here
Oh yeah I totally understand. The only person who has created unnecessary drama is herrbutzie.
very nice all works prefect, only index.php but renamed that myself and it works
For next html template ( as I am sure i will buy more from you if you keep this up ) have named folders with each style and a browsable copy of the website ( this is how I receive most my html template deliverables )
just some constructive criticism on an otherwise great product
Yeah, that would make sense. I’ll do that for my future HTML themes. It seems like a lot of duplicate code (especially since Continuum has so much code), but I guess it’s much more user friendly. Thanks for the advice.
I use the html tempaltes to build up skins for our cms and portal system ( which more people do here ). So a browsable copy may look like double work but makes your buyers job a lot easier we can just start where we want and then go from there without having to first look up all style options
Makes sense.
@ brianmcculloh Then it appears that both you and the reviewer s made a mistake in approving your original submission. Two wrongs one by you and one by the reviewer does not make a right.
Glad you have now found the error of your ways and have corrected your misrepresentations and your reputation has been retrieved.
I guess maybe I put too much trust in the reviewers. I just assumed that if they approve it, then it’s acceptable. Believe me, I in no way meant to deceive anyone. The new update should be available shortly, so we can put this whole matter behind us.
That’s what you should have done when you submitted the theme !! That is what other authors here do . Now you are being honest with what you are trying to sell.
I had no idea that would have been a problem. I’m not trying to slip anything by anyone or deceive anyone, why would I hurt my reputation and rating by doing that? Also, why did the item get approved if it has such a blaring fundamental error. I got superb marks by my reviewer stating that I went above and beyond what most themes do. I think you need to pipe and have a beer. Maybe try doing something productive instead of trying to find faults in others’ good-spirited efforts for a change.
It’s always nice to have spent the most time and effort responding to comments from someone who’s not even a customer. There’s always one guy who’s never satisfied. Thanks for being that guy.
I’ve finished the update and have submitted it for review. It should be available very shortly.
@brianmcculloh I have a problems with people who are misrepresenting what they are selling and that is what you are doing.
It is still PHP no matter how you try to spin it, you are misrepresenting the theme files you are selling. In the description it is describes as an HTML version NOT a PHP version. Change your description and change the banner, remove all references to html and be an HONEST author.
I’ll just update the theme instead to include an additional HTML version so everyone is happy. It will literally take me 5 minutes to change the entire site. I really think you’re freaking out about the simplest thing. I’m not sure if you are aware or not, but PHP and HTML are not mutually exclusive programming languages.
@brianmccullo
The author did screw up He is misrepresenting what he is selling This is promoted as an HTML version it says so in the decxription and the banner on the screen shot says HTML version, not PHP version which is what it is.
Be honest and change your description and the banner on the screenshot to what you are selling a PHP version. As said before PHP is not html, they are two different languages
The theme is written entirely in HTML with .php file extensions and a couple PHP includes. It is very easily converted to HTML using the steps I laid out in my response to nokiko below. I will be adding this to the FAQ shortly.
FYI – as stated, this is exactly how I have release my first two HTML themes without any problems with either the ThemeForest staff or customers. You are the first person to have a problem with it. You know, there is a reason ThemeForest lists the files used in the theme on the item description page.
Nice work – you have inluded a wealth of features here. Kudos
One item though, I’m getting a fairly serious screen flicker on the “latest” links bar on mouse rollover on any of the links there. Using Firefox 3.6.17
Never came accross this effect on any site of theme…
...Just a heads up! Best of luck with Sales!
Thanks a lot! Yeah, there is a weird bug with the fancy tooltips used and some versions of Firefox – it causes a full-screen split-second flicker for some reason. The fix would be to disable the fancy tooltips by opening the js/custom.js file and commenting out line #45 (add // to the beginning of the line).
Thanks for the quick reply!
For what it’s worth – I’m not sure what all the fuss was about the php files inclusion… Bit of a storm in a teacup! Nice to see an alternative version with the thml being fasttracked though!
Maybe post back when the download package is ready…
Cheers -
Yeah, I thought it would make everyone happy
It’s now available for download.
@Pixalax
no these are pure php files index has sevral othr php includes so i guess its wrongly packaged will awat reply from author
The site is not wrongly packaged. It is a theme written in HTML not requiring any platform such as Wordpress or Joomla, with PHP file extensions so that it can be more robust and not have the same code (e.g. menus, sidebars, template parts) written redundantly lots of times. This is done by design, and consequently in the item description where it says Theme Forest files used, you’ll notice it says PHP files instead of HTML files.
That being said, if you don’t want to use PHP file extensions, you can easily replace them with HTML file extensions. As per the documentation that came with Continuum, the only PHP that is used in the entire site is setting the variables at the top of a few of the files, and the areas where one file is included in another file (PHP includes). So, here is how you would go about changing the theme from PHP to HTML :
1) Change the file extensions of all the files from .php to .html
2) Replace the php include code with the contents of the file it is including. For example, on the index.php file, currently it looks like this:
include("inc/header.php"); //get the header
include("inc/spotlight.php"); //get the spotlight area
include("inc/latest.php"); //get the latest panel
include("inc/feed-layout-a.php"); //get the feed listing
include("inc/footer.php"); //get the footer
What that does is just “include” 5 other files all of which are in the inc/ folder: header.php, spotlight.php, latest.php, feed-layout-a.php, and footer.php. What you need to do is open the header.php file and copy all of the code and paste it into the index.php file, replacing the php include for the header.php. Do the same thing for the other 4 included files.
3) Lastly, you need to replace the few spots where PHP is used inside of a file with HTML instead. Again, this is very simple. For example, in the header.php file, delete all of the php (everything between and including the <?php and the ?> tags. Then, since you’re not using a PHP variable to hold the background and color choices, change the body tag like so:
<body class="?php echo $con_background.' '.$con_color; ?"> </body>
change this to
<body class="light-lithium lithium"> </body>
(don’t worry about the closing body tag – this comment section throws that in for some reason. you’re just looking a the opening body tag)
That’s it. Do the same thing anywhere you find PHP , which is usually just right at the beginning of a file. If you come across any areas where you’re confused on how to get rid of the PHP , please ask and I can help you very easily. Again, since I’m not using a bunch of complicated PHP functions, and I’m not integrating PHP all throughout the code and only in a few specific places, changing the theme from a .php theme to a .html theme is something that can be accomplished in a matter of minutes.
You may be asking why did I choose .php to .html if it’s so simple to change the entire site to .html. The answer is, I’d rather give the buyer the opportunity to take advantage of the efficiency and robustness that .php provides, and then have the option to easily scale it back, instead of not giving the buyer that option in the first place.
Where to go from here:
First of all, I have updated the item description to be even more clear about the use of .php extensions as opposed to .html extensions to avoid any further confusion. Secondly, I’m going to update the theme files so inside the folder you will have a php folder and an html folder, and inside of each one is the PHP or HTML version of the theme. I think that will be best for everyone in the long one. Don’t know when I’ll be able to perform this update, but it should be within a week or two.
Please let me know if anything’s still unclear or if I can answer any further questions.
Thanks, Brian
OK, I’ve made it a priority to update the theme with a pure HTML option. I have updated the theme and it’s awaiting review. It should be available shortly, so don’t worry about applying any of the changes I mentioned above. I’ll let you know when it’s been updated
@nokiko & @herrbutzie; Did you try to change the file extensions to .html and check if they work? Such templates generally changing .php to .html should do the trick.
Nice theme dude. I am about to finish my framework so I can start buying front-end design. Bookmarked for future purchase.
Great! Let me know if I can answer any questions about the theme. Thanks for responding to the others – you are correct. Everything’s written in pure HTML with a php extension, so you can just change the file extensions to HTML and replace the PHP includes with HTML includes (or just copy the HTML from the included files into the file that includes them).
FYI – see my response to nokiko above for further details…
looks like the author screwed up. Claims it is for an html version, yet the preview is php as is the screenshot from the purchaser nokiko!!
from the Description.
“This is the HTML version of the very popular Continuum Wordpress Magazine Theme”
In short, PHP is not by any stretch of one’s imagination “the same thing as” HTML , but rather a separate language.
No, the author did not screw up. If you look at the item description at the Theme Forest files included, you’ll notice that it says it uses PHP files and not HTML files. This is the way I’ve always released HTML templates (since the entire theme is written in pure HTML ) and after 150+ purchases I’ve not had one person with a problem with the php extensions.
screenshot of what i found in the downloaded zip,

did you package the wrong files no html anywhere
