Hi there!

I’m using the theme for a CMS -style site (many hierarchical pages), so I have a couple of questions… - Is it possible to force the top menu area simply to use the standard page menus (and not have to create a custom menu)? - Is there a widget or code to allow me to display child pages on a parent page with thumbnail and excerpt? - Can pages be included in the slideshow on the home page?

Thanks

Ben

PS: The site I’d like to migrate is at http://britishletterpress.co.uk

Hello Ben,

For navigation menu, it is the default (standard) method as of Wordpress 3.0 to display a menu. Once you create a menu, you can automatically allot pages and adjust their order and hierarchy as desired. An auto generation of menu will lead to overflow of links with no control on their appearance.

For displaying sub-page summary on a parent page, the best approach would be to insert page excerpts manually using the column short codes and link each excerpt to their respective pages. Some sort of content blocks as you would see on the Services page of the live preview.

In case of slider, you can use featured image from pages instead of posts. Clicking on each image can take you to a custom URL or a direct link to the respective page.

Very nice template, congrats on your work!

Currently the W3C validator reports 37 errors on the demo site. Looking at them, they all seem pretty easy to fix.

Are you planning to release a new version? If you fix this issues, IMHO you should add valid W3C template at the description of the theme since there are many people like me looking only for valid themes.

Hello Juanzo,

Thanks for the heads up. Most of those errors are due to the timthumb ampersand, which I will try to replace with & and see if the timthumb still works. Rest of them are due to incomplete p tags inserted by WordPress.

I appreciate your inputs and feedback towards improvement.

furthermore, the logo would be in the same location on every page in the site – so it would also align to the top left of the slider on the homepage – just wanted to clarify. thanks again!

Hello again Saurabh,

On my site http://malbert.theidealaunchlab.com/, I need to get my logo to sit flush to the left and top of the gray secondary area header bar – I realize that the intention here is to provide ample white space with the placement of the website logo – but they would like to see their logo “locked in” to the top left of the gray bar so to speak. I sure hope that this is possible using your theme and that you could help me out in accomplishing this goal.

Thanks so much for your continued support! Cheers!

Hello Chris,

I got a little confused here. (I’m sorry). What I understood is you need to place the logo touching the “Featured area gray bar” and aligned to the extreme left without any padding.

Or? Aligned to the top left of the body? You can send me a screen shot with desired marks at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com. I will see what can be done.

Thank you for such a beautiful theme.

Is there anyway to use the prettyPhoto plugin on non portfolio pages with inline content?

Thank you.

Hi there,

Yes you can use it by directly inserting the markup required to do so. As described on the home page of prettyphoto, you can use inline content as:

<a href="#inline-1" rel="prettyPhoto[group1]"><img src="url_to_thumbnail" alt="" width="50" /></a>
<div class="hide" id="inline-1">
<p>This is inline content opened in prettyPhoto.</p>
<p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.</p></div>

Next, inside style.css file you can set:

.hide { display:none }

Let me know if you find any issue. :)

Hello!

Excellent work! When you purchase the template included whether:

header.php sidebar.php footer.php index.php comments.php comments-popup.php single.php page.php author.php date.php archive.php search.php 404.php

Thank you!

Yes, most of those files except date.php.

Saurabh;

Saurabh,

I spent some time on this and could not find answer anywhere: After loading the dummy pages and all, all seems fine except the menu at bottom of header needs to shift to the left. I know that is just a matter of editing the css, and Firebug tells me:

.nav1 { margin: 30px 18px 0; }

so, when I changed it to

.nav1 { margin: 30px 0px 0; }

it lined up perfectly.

but I could not find this in the css stylesheet and Firebug says it’s on wordpress #3 which is not listed on the editor. Could you please tell me where I can make this change?

Thanks again,

Al

Hello Al,

I have replied to your email regarding this. I guess you didn’t checked the mail yet. :)

Regards

Saurabh,

The changes worked nicely. Thanks for your great continued support. I apologized for not checking the e-mail sent, it went to different mailbox.

Thanks again!

Hi Saurabh,

First off, this is a fantastic theme. I love the clarity and ease of use.

I’m trying to enable Cufon on this site. How can I go about doing this?

I’m using the WP-Cufon plugin and have a font js file uploaded. I’ve reverted to not using custom header settings however, the cufon still doesn’t take precedence.

Could you kindly assist me with this.

Thanks!

Hey Saurabh,

One last fix, if you could help me out. How can I center the primary navigation vertically in my header. I’m trying to find the right change to make in the CSS file but it doesn’t reflect on the page.

Thanks a lot for all the help!

Hello Mayank,

You can vertically center the Navigation using theme options Navigation margin field. Inside the General tab of Theme Options. If that doesn’t solve it, you can adjust Navigation margins inside .nav1 selector of style.css file.

You may also need to adjust padding-bottom of .header_wrap selector.

Finally, after changing the CSS , you may not see the changes into effect because we are overriding the navigation margin settings via Theme Options which are loaded inside includes/load_styles.php. So, whatever bottom margin you set in CSS , you will need to place same value inside Theme Options for Navigation bottom margin. Otherwise it will always load the default value.

Hope you got it. :)

Regards

Thanks Saurabh, that fixed the issue. Thanks again for all the support and help. You’re really doing a great job keeping people tight-knit around this theme.

Will look out for any more themes that you push out here.

Cheers! :)

Great theme (again)!

I wanted to know if the “Featured Image box” works only for Slide, Portfolio and Widget and not for single post of my blog. Is there a way to show in the blog page, under the title, the feautered image of every single post?

Thanks so much for your kindly and accurate support.

Rado

Hello Rado,

Yes you can show featured image inside single posts below the title. Actually, this is done manually. When you will compose a post, you would insert an image using the frame short code or a simple img HTML tag. This image will show on excerpts as well as single post.

Inside live preview, the images in blog posts are inserted manually (inside the content of post), so that you can place them to the left, right or full width as desired.

Regards

Loving the Hulk theme. Good work.

Wanted to know if you had any suggestions for creating multiple home pages. We will have our main home page as shown here.. http://www.h20jet.com.php5-19.dfw1-1.websitetestlink.com/

The other versions would be for specific google campaigns and having slightly different content. I’d like to use the same grid and slide show however.

Second option… I tried creating a new page and giving the “default template” and but it still gives me the bar across the top for where the heading goes. This page would work great as a landing page if I was able to loose that header bar…

http://www.h20jet.com.php5-19.dfw1-1.websitetestlink.com/landing

Open to suggestions.

Hi there,

The site will show featured area bar for every page and post. In order to hide it for a specific page, we can create a conditional check using a custom field. For that, kindly mail me at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com. I will try to tweak that for you.

Regards

Great theme! please, is there a way to put something like “Hulk Mini Slider” or “Hulk Recent Posts” in the homepage column instead the widgetized area?

Thanks so much.

Rado

Hello Rado,

Unfortunately, there are no short codes for inserting recent posts or slider into the content area. However, you can put one slider by inserting a direct HTML markup. You can mail me at xconsau[at]gmail[dot]com so that I will send you the necessary markup.

Regards

Saurabh,

Please disregard previous post about how to install the dummy pages.

After several hours of playing around with file permissions, I was able to upload the .xml file into wordpress and got it all loaded.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Hello Al,

No problem. :) Glad you got it working.

Saurabh,

I am trying to set up a photography portfolio site with Hulk and have a couple of questions:

In setting up static homepage, am I correct in setting up a “Home” category for the images and then uploading the images for the slider? Right now it is working so far, the images show in the slider. Not sure if you have a better recommendation setting up a homepage slideshow that stands on its own, not from posts or other portfolios. I am not setting up a blog, so I do not want the Home page slider to be posts, but just a static intro page. Am I setting it up right?

I want to have portfolio menu buttons to different portfolio pages, like “industrial” so when that is chosen, it goes to the industrial page which I want to have a group of thumbnails, when clicked opens to the larger images. Which template would work best for this?

I liked your dummy content and tried to load it but can not find a home page or not sure which page would be the homepage in the editor listings – where exactly does it go?

Thanks in advance,

Al

Hello Al,

The home page will show slide images from either posts or pages. As per your requirement, the only way is to hard code the images inside header.php file. i.e. to manually insert slide code in place of the “custom loop” where slides are fetched. In future, you may need to append/modify that code in order to add more slides. If you wish to have that, I will send you the markup.

For custom portfolio pages – For example, a page with some thumbnails and clicking on a link takes you to another page with thumbnails, the best way is to insert portfolio images manually using the column short-codes on a normal page. By using this method, you would be able to use multi column gallery on same page, with full control over the links. For example, a three columnar gallery in it’s most simple form on a full width page can be created as:

[one_third]
<a href="url_to_full_image" rel="prettyPhoto[group1]"><img title="my image" src="url_to_thumbnail" /></a>
<h5><a href="url_to_sub_gallery">Portfolio Title</a></h5>
<p>Optional portfolio description here</p>
<p><a href="url_to_sub_gallery" class="btn1">Read more</a></p>
[/one_third]

[one_third]
<a href="url_to_full_image" rel="prettyPhoto[group1]"><img title="my image" src="url_to_thumbnail" /></a>
<h5><a href="url_to_sub_gallery">Portfolio Title</a></h5>
<p>Optional portfolio description here</p>
<p><a href="url_to_sub_gallery" class="btn1">Read more</a></p>
[/one_third]

[one_third_last]
<a href="url_to_full_image" rel="prettyPhoto[group1]"><img title="my image" src="url_to_thumbnail" /></a>
<h5><a href="url_to_sub_gallery">Portfolio Title</a></h5>
<p>Optional portfolio description here</p>
<p><a href="url_to_sub_gallery" class="btn1">Read more</a></p>
[/one_third_last]

In the above markup, you can add your own class selectors to style the gallery and links. Hope it helps. :)

Regards

Saurabh,

Thanks for your reply. I will work with your suggestion. My intent is simply to have the navigation bar items link to different portfolio pages which would have a gallery of thumbnails which would bring up the full size images when clicked as slideshow, pretty much the way it works now.

If I am correct in Hulk, the only way to add images to a portfolio page, it to treat them as posts, inserting one at a time. I tested using a gallery plugin (NextGen) for the portfolio pages and seems that it would work simpler as a gallery portfolio page. I am not comfortable with getting too deep into the php coding fearing that I would mess things up.

Could you please give any additional info on how to load the dummy data? I am a little confused about copying the data ” inside the content editor of the home page”. I know where the editor is with the different pages, but my homepage ( Home ) is not listed. And does it replace the whole page of just part?

I love your theme, and and I am trying to make it work. Thanks for your continued support.

Hi SaurabhSharma,

I have a couple of issues going on with my site http://malbert.theidealaunchlab.com/ that I would like to kindly ask for your assistance on:

A: On the homepage, I do not want the main slider images to be linkable – I realize this space is delegated for a click-thru to a Featured Story post. But I would rather have the slider simply function as a progression of three graphic slides. However, I cannot find the line of code that relates to breaking these links.

B. I would like to be able to hide the author details at the beginning of a specific post [Work > Results > Social Media > Porsche > Learn More] and also hide the Simple Social icons from appearing on this post. The only reason this Porsche page was set up as a post in a portfolio was to enable the “Pretty Photo” functionality. Could the same functionality be achieved by setting the Porsche post up as a page or not?

C. On the same page (Porsche) – when the Pretty Photo expands to large on the page it SHOULD black out everything on the page behind it. However, the video that has been inserted at the top of the sidebar at right displays in front of the Pretty Photo in some browsers, displays correctly in FireFox if I’m not mistaken.

- Additionally on the Pretty Photo blowout – where it says “Porsche Twitter Page” as the title – is it possible to insert a link to an outside site here? Not sure…

Sorry to bombard you with the questions, but you seem to be very proactive and responsive to this forum, and I (among others I’m sure) greatly appreciate that.

Thanks in advance and Cheers!

Hello Chris,

A. For disabling links, you have an option as “Do not link Slide Images” with every Post (below the content editor). I assume you have the latest version of the theme v1.2 which contains that feature.

B. You need not create a post just for prettyPhoto. You can directly use a [frame] short code to insert a prettyPhoto enabled image anywhere throughout the site. Furthermore, you can directly use HTML to make a prettyPhoto enabled image as shown below:

<a href="url_to_bigger_image" rel="prettyPhoto[group2]"><img src="url_to_thumbnail" /></a>

For more details on using a [frame] short code, you can refer to the documentation file.

C. Regarding prettyPhoto, there seem to be a higher z-index on the YouTube video embed code. It might be difficult to have control on that. Similarly, having a link from prettyPhoto opened window is again something beyond the features provided by the plugin itself.

Hi SaurabhSharma just want to say thank you for this great theme , i had alot of fun customizing it . installed at http://fenwn.com/ and works fine so far with no problems , and the detailed documentation is very helpful. good luck , 5 stars rated

Hello there,

I am extremely surprised to see a RTL version of this theme being implemented. Stunning work. I can imagine how you would have flipped the entire layout horizontally, and with how much level of difficulty. But the end result is really really nice.

Thanks for choosing my theme. I am going to showcase this link on the item description page. (Hope you won’t mind that). :)

I had tried to ask this question from another account – but am now logged in through the account through which I purchased the theme…

I have purchased your Hulk theme and am loving it!

One important question for you though – how would I go about displaying a “blog masthead” (in other words a static header graphic) that would always display beneath the featured area bar, yet above the first blog post title in the content area on all blog pages?

I really am having trouble with this and would love to know how to accomplish this goal. Thanks for your time! Cheers!

Hello Chris,

Since you wish to display same image across all single posts, you can do so inside single.php. You will see a code around line no. 9 as:

get_header(); if (have_posts()) :

You can insert the image as:

get_header(); <img src="your_img_url" /> if (have_posts()) :

This will display the image on all single posts. Similarly, if you wish to display that image on Category or Archives, you would insert same code inside category.php or archive.php.

P.S. In the above code, retain the php opening tags. I have not written here as they are not displaying properly inside the pre tag.

You can further email me if you find any difficulty.

Hello mate,

Can you help me figure out this

Recently my blog posts can show Google ads, (REPLACE XX with TT)

hxxp://www.seoteky.com/facebook-caught-for-malicious-defamation-google-is-the-target/

but with my latest post Google ads is not appearing anymore. I tried to add another test post still the ads wont show

Hi there,

I think this issue is more related to Google Adsense units and their allowed usage per page. I have searched about it on other forums and found this post.

You may need to recheck how many adsense units can be allowed per site. Depending on that you may adjust the usage of units. From what I have read on other sources, it gets limited to 3 units.

You can find more help on this topic at the Google adsense support. If there will be any issue with the theme, I will resolve it out. :)

Hi there,

Do you know if there is an issue with the site that loads the preview [http://labs.saurabh-sharma.com] none of the links off the preview are working.

The template looks great, but I would like to see it in more detail before I can make a decision on purchase.

Thanks!

Hello there,

You can check again. The live preview link is this. There are some server backups when the site goes down. It’s common in shared hosting. :)

Regards

Thanks Saurabh,

I’m still getting timeouts when attempting to view the preview: “The connection has timed out: The server at labs.saurabh-sharma.com is taking too long to respond.”

This happens when I click on any of the links on the top menu, for example: http://labs.saurabh-sharma.com/themes/hulk/wp/?page_id=108

Is it working for you? Do you have a static or cached version? (I use cloudflare).

Cheers.

Hi there,

Yes it is loading fine here. No issues.
