This is me being a moron, but how does a mobile template interact with an existing web template. Is this a separate template that supersedes the main website when smart phone is detected? Does it redirect to something like m.domain.com? I want to buy a mobile template, but I want to understand how it would interact with what I have currently for my site.

Yes, this is a seperate template for mobile devices. If you want to use your current website itself for mobile, then it must be a responsive HTML website. for eg. www.smashingmagazine.com. hope this helps.
does this template morph when phone tilted to side/portrait?
