How can I create a modal please? I do not see this as an option to have a modal or popup. These are common elements of websites.
Also, Do I need to install this on a server to be able to build sites? Can I do this just locally on my PC?
Ignore the modal question, I found it in the docs. However still interested to know if you need to install to a server to build HTML sites.

No, Variant runs best when it is unzipped on your local machine and opened directly in Chrome or Firefox. No upload or install required.

Another question related to saving. When my browser refreshes I loose all my work on Chrome. Is there a way to save my project rather than the page?
Also I have seen Modal included in the elements to use, however this is only for videos. Do you have any modals for content such as text? I would like to press a link or button to open a modal to provide more information to the end user.
Another question: How can I control the background or the rows? I would like to have images be used as the background to the row. I would then like to ad content sections to a single row that has a background image. Almost like nesting rows. How can I do this in the builder?

It looks like you require some features on your page that Variant is not capable of producing. These operations will need to be done outside Variant when your page has been exported.
Variant is intended to create the base of your page which is then edited in HTML afterwards.

Yes, of course, the pack comes with all of the demo pages you see in the demo site, in HTML format. You can then use these as a basis for your pages – there is no need to use Variant.
Hello there!
I’m checked the demo of this builder and can’t see any option about custom fonts, custom colors. As example only four colours (white, gray, black, blue) there in “Background” section when I click on settings icon of “Carousel Portfolio 1” component. Is it a limitation of demo or is it standard thing for the purchased product too? I need a quick answer. Cause’ I’m thinking of buying this builder.

Everything you see in the demo is in the download package too. Nothing is different except the ability to output HTML, which is not in the demo.
You can see other available colour schemes on the left hand sidebar of Variant under the paintbrush icon. Then the Four colours you saw on the right hand bar will be different, according to the colours in the selected scheme.
The predefined colours and fonts are baked into the builder. It is not a simple operation to edit the builder to add more colours and fonts, however it is easy enough to generate a new colour scheme with your exact brand colours using a LESS compiler and the provided LESS files.

Hi, are you using Safari? If so you will need to go to Preferences -> Privacy -> and allow cookies from sites I visit. This is a recent addition to Safari which changes the security restrictions on local storage, which Variant uses.

Hi! When I use the cover youtube video on the builder, it automatically adds data-start-at=”17” for all videos. If the video is less than 17 seconds it does not shows anything.

Yes that photo was sourced from Unsplash.com and you can use it in your site. Any photo that is included in the download package is able to be used (they are all sources from Unsplash.com)

Hey guys, supposedly the dropdown menus should be fixed on mobile but they are still not. They work fine on desktop when you hover them but when you touch them on mobile they don’t do anything. Thanks for your help.

So no importing or placing of an image within a paragraph tag from the visual builder if you don’t already have it coded in?? Seems that would be an easy a largely requested abilities. Other what Stack does I’m not sure why something so basic isn’t included. Are you planning on adding this?
And you also can’t remove a paragraph or div but you can add one? When I remove I want it to disappear like when adding one it ‘appears’.
No background position or background repeat controls within the builder either I see?
In most instances when you expand a div the paragraph does not expand with it defeating the purpose of expanding.
When you click on the button in the top nav or a botton in a features cover or elsewhere it duplicates within itself and you can’t remove it. If you remove the entire button you than lose you button for good and have to restart the entire block.
Hi, all elements are recoverable by slicking the “Show Trash” button on the sidebar. Simply click a deleted element to bring it back, then hit the Show trash button again to re-hide the deleted items again.
Hi. I bought HTML and Wp version of your theme. I initially posted this via the WP them comments and now have some info about it but need to know also for the pure HTML theme.
Are there are any docs on how to personalise the builder. Considering doing permanent small changes to CSS and use your builder afterwards. This should include changing the available color schemes or fonts I can choose from or maybe even later have some additional personalized blocks. Is that documented at all any where? Thanks.

No, there is no documentation for doing this as it is not something we support. Variant is sold “as-is”, though, this is not to say we are against your modifying the builder for your own use.
The modification of Variant not an area we support because this constitutes customisation of the product. However, you are welcome to dive in and change whatever you want. most of the settings for Variant are contained in JSON in builder.html. You can even duplicate the predefined blocks and make edits to existing ones if you like. All you need to do is edit builder.html.
The JSON data relating to colour schemes simply references files in the css folder, so if you recompile the LESS to CSS your changes will be apparent in Variant also.

Everything appears working to me – keep in mind your main image is over 1MB – this is delaying page load and causing non-responsiveness while it loads. Making this image smaller will create a better experience. Consider making the dimensions of the image slightly smaller then compress using https://tinypng.com/

Hi, I purchased stack. Now I have used some of the stack templates in my Android and iOS apps. It’s free for end users. However I’m planning to charge the end users when they download a offline version of the app. Do I now have to buy a extended license from you guys to proceed..?

Hello Craig, If I use a third-party email provider (not my domain host), I understand that I will need to enter my login details in mail.php for the contact form to work. 1. How secure is doing something like this? My understanding is that the password is stored in the clear. 2. Where, on the server, should the the mail.php file reside, and does it need to be within the mail folder?

Hi,
Yes the password is stored in the clear. The password is never transmitted to the user’s machine and only leaves your server when the connection is made to the SMTP server, which can have TLS or SSL enabled if you like.
For this reason we recommend using a single purpose email account set up on your hosting provider’s server to handle the sole task of sending emails from your contact form. That way there is no security concern.
The mail.php file can reside anywhere, as you can set the path to it using the action attribute on the form element. However, if you move mail.php you will also need to make sure the lib folder is also moved as the mail.php file needs to include mail/lib/mail_sender.php and all of the files in the lib folder.
