Thanks for getting in touch. HTML version won’t be updated at least in near future due to no updates from the Materialize framework. We may have to deprecate HTML & Laravel version in the future due to the same reason.

what backend is it using?
It is built on top of Next.js and you don’t need to integrate it with any other backend. We provide json based fake-db to show fake api calls. You need to replace them with your original api. You can learn more about using APIs with next js here: https://nextjs.org/docs/api-routes/introduction

Materialize admin is currently based on https://materializecss.com/. Its simple HTML & HTML+Laravel template with no any JS framework support.
MUI is React JS material design framework which is currently not supported but in near future we’re planning to provide the support for it.

Still if you want to consider using older version only, we may provide older version but in that case we won’t be able to provide support becasue we are not sure about third party compatability with older version.
