I recently updated (I think) the theme using the envanto plugin for theme updates. It has changed some of the elements making the site much less usable. I thought I was using a child theme? it is present but doesn’t look to be active? (I cant tell) but Both the theme and the child when viewing the site are now changed (Mainly the top of the pages are taller showing more of the scrolling pictures – making it harder to see the text displayed there . Also the color of the banner at the top has changed back to the blue theme color instead of the color I had set. I’m not sure how other parts of the web have changed either. I’m writing to see if you have a quick fix for these problems? Again I thought the child theme use would assure my changes to the theme would be protected during the update process for this township?
It also looks like I have licenses. not sure why?

to see if your child theme is active just go to Appearance / Themes and check it out. You will have a TownPress and TownPress Child there, the TownPress Child should be highlighted as active.

It depends what kind of changes do you mean. If you mean code changes then this is true if you made those code changes in a child theme files.

If we update TownPress from version 1.2.2 to 6.1.3, no theme settings will be adopted. Since in the new version the settings are made via the “Customizer”. and there is no more theme option. Furthermore, all galleries are no longer available. Is there a solution to update the theme?

I guess you mean you’ve updated to 3.8.5, as that is the latest version. That said, the latest version is not compatible with the 1.x branch, which is already several years old, so you will have to redo a lot of your content to a new format. is there somebody who use old version of theme (1.6.4)? This theme is different and it is not easy to upgrade. Now, after WP actualisation to version 6.2.2. I have problem with documents category lists. Old documents are visible. But any newer pasted documents are not visible in category lists. Can you help?

hard to tell what can be wrong, you can try to enable the WP Debug mode to see if there are any errors when you create a new document: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/debugging-in-wordpress/
1.6.4 version is several years old, so unfortunately I do not provide a support for it anymore. I would highly recommend to update to the latest version, even that it would indeed mean you will have to rebuild a large parts of your site. But you will not only get support for latest WP and PHP version, but also much better document management, more advanced events and directory listings.

I don/t think it will work with PHP 8 as that version is several years old now. You can try to update up to 1.6.4 which you will find in the full package / Legacy folder, but my guess is that one won’t work with PHP 8 either.<./p>
I highly recommend update to the latest version as soon as possible (which unfortunately means you will have to rebuild a large chunk of your site).

Thank you so much. I have a question related to typography, too: I do not wish to use Google Fonts, as I am required to use my organization’s official (commercial) font. How can I activate this Font Family for my entire site instead of the default Google Fonts offered in Appearance / Customize / Typography? Is this possible without using a third-party plugin? I guess you will have to upload it to your site and load via some custom CSS. I am sure there are some tutorial on that on the internet, that’s not something I can help you with unfortunately.
OK, I thought there was a best practice to follow in Townpress.
Then only theme-specific thing is to disable the google fonts under Appearance / Typography once you make the switch to a custom font.

The parent theme is 3.8.4 and the Child theme (the chiuld theme is activated) is 3.1.1
I tried with parent theme which is updated to the last version and the problem persists

If I change the language to Magyar (the website has two languages), on Magyar everything looks fine, only on Romanian language is the problem (I use WPGlobus for translating)

I’ve checked your site and the “Oferta vanzare teren” notice in sidebar is there in both languages so it was surely a caching problem.
Ive started noticing that if I go and upload a document (documents on left menu), and specify that document to a category (2023 Newsletters). and then go to a page (left menu), create a lsvr “document” insert and link it to that specified category housing the documents, it wont show any documents. Im not sure what is going on. It started out a while ago but Ive been trying to rule out plugins etc. So far no luck on fixing it. Im on Townpress child theme. I went to envato market to double check its updating webtheme and it says api is invalid. but I havent touched that api in over 6 years.

indeed, v2 and v3 versions were a massive rework of the theme, many old shortcodes were removed. I recommend to use the native block editor instead where you can find alternatives to these basic elements.

After we try to install update theme – the site looks totally different. I have rename the old theme folder and copy the update theme via FTP to the themes folder and rename it to the old one.

I am sorry but that won’t be possible without changing the code. Basically you can just copy either the template-parts/lsvr_document/archive-layout-categorized-attachments.php file or template-parts/lsvr_document/archive-layout-default.php file (depending on which layout you are using) to your child theme (with respect to the relative path) and do your changes there.
