Excellence in the Market Place
I am a self taught Internet Entrepreneur who got interested in the Internet back in 1991. Up to that time I had worked with computers since 1970 and spent time working for an industrial supply center in the Northeastern US and part time in my own auto repair center when I wasn’t working for the industrial supply people.
In 1991 I was working for of all places Radio Shack where I learned more in depth understanding for the computer and what it can do and not do. Got certified as a computer specialist and learned how to build computers from the box to finished push the button and go to work product.
When I started really getting interested in the net was back in 1999 when I started searching for ways to make money on-line. I found out then that you pretty much had to learn for yourself or go to tech school, because no one was interested in carrying someone with a whole lot of questions.
I tried communicating with some of the developer sites that were out there but they only gave you part of the story or the answer and not the whole. Reminds me of most these marketers now a days. I have purchased more stuff from so called guru’s of business marketing on the net then I care to tell. It is totally embarrassing to think that I was so foolish to do such a thing. Because of this I became frustrated and some what angry with those people wanting to choke somebody. Needless to say I didn’t. But I wound up getting frustrated seeking for a way that I could get started.
I finally started surfing the net for months looking for the information I needed to start building websites and went looking to download sites like Tucows, WebAttack, CNET Downloads, ZDNet {Zeff Davis Network} Downloads and so on for tools that could help me learn HTML which is an acronym for Hyper Text Markup Language.
There where many sites that offered the tools ie: code editors, image creation, PDF {portable document format} creation, audio and video, image compression, code compression tools and even those that could manipulate the image once created by someone else. The quality of software tools left something to be desired unless you were willing to drop anywhere from about $100 to $500 dollars in cold hard cash. For the average person that is just not in the cards unless they want to go into debt to do so and many a person has done that including me.
I had come to the place where I was downloading hundreds of software and installing and un-installing the software until I got just the right ones. I was using Windows 98 at the time and it was not very stable with so many directory changes. I wound up having to wipe out Windows 98 and reinstall it and start from fresh. That can get costly when you don’t have storage drives and other things to copy information and software to.
Over the course of time I learned CSS, PHP, SSI, a little Javascript and DHTML. I find once you get started in this, it is a never ending course of learning because of the changes in language used and the tools to make websites with. Each change brings you back to the proverbial beginning where its like you start all over again.. You have to love what you are doing and have a passion for it or you will burn out on it all together.
For the longest time I hand coded everything because these so called WYSIWYG editors never seemed to get the code quite right. Page load times was the biggest flaw to using these types of editors.
Now I am learning this 960 grid system as it pertains to Wordpress, Drupal, Magneto and Joomla. Each one of those has a little different twist to it. But learning it is not impossible you just have to stick with it and perseverance.
Well that is it for now. Pick you up on the other side.
