How easy is this to edit. I’m no webdesigner and don’t do codes. Just need to use a theme to show the book and offer downloads promised in the book..possibly with a link to amazon…How long will it take me to do all that and how many plug ins will I need? Thanks.
Preface is pretty simple to use and comes with documentation. We have a range of customers from developers to authors. You will need to do some reading up on WordPress and WooCommerce though to use any theme. How long is a piece of string really is the answer to your question. What may take 5 minutes for some may take an hour for others. What I can tell you is downloads are possible via WooCommerce or just directly using a link to a file and Amazon button can be achieved with a button short code.
I see that the support only lasts for six months. Does that include updates too? Or do I get a whole year of updates?
You get updates until the point that the theme gets deleted or ThemeForest isn’t around any more. Whichever comes sooner. You can buy extra support too if you need it or stick with the 6 months and renew it if you need to. Support covers bug fixing, basic questions and simple CSS advice/edits
Although I have a valid purchase code, I can’t submit a ticket. So I put my question here.
Can I use <?php echo date ('Y'); ?> in the footer?
I’ve trieb to adjust it in the footer tagline of custom text, but it don’t work.
It always shows: © 2015- <?php echo date (‘Y’); ?> Impressum.

The text gets sanitized so php won’t work through the theme options you will need to edit the footer.php ideally via a child theme

that’s the error I get after upgrading to Wordpress 4.6
also, the option to set a Primary Menu has disappeared since 4.6
Hi there, It looks like WordPress have used a function name in core that was already existing in our theme, which is causing an issue.
Hopefully you had made a backup of your website before updating, as advised by WP when you update, and you can roll back to that for the time being.
A fix is imminent for the duplicate function is already completed on our development version and we’ll let people know when it is ready to download. We can’t see any issues with menus though – so may need a little more information from you on that.
the updated fixed everything. thanks. previously the ability to select Menu locations had disappeared so it’s back now.

We haven’t tested with any portfolio plugins, our Literary theme has books + portfolio though.
You can only use the theme on one live install, as per the ThemeForest licence restrictions.

Hi. I’m interested in purchasing this theme, but was wondering how well it would support child theming so I can tweak it a bit. Basically, I’d like to replace the navigation and have a custom splash page for the home page based on a Bootstrap layout.
Hi there yes it even comes with two child themes. One vanilla one and one that provides the woo commerce support should you need it.
That’s great. So far I’m loving this theme. The only issue I’m having is how to turn of the “mean menu” for mobile in my child theme. It looks like it’s using javascript to set my nav style to “display:none” and ruining the menu I am trying to use. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
It ships with MeanMenu as per the demo you’d need to write some explicit CSS to hide MeanMenu and re show the nav if you log a support ticket on https://meanthemes.ticksy.com with a link to your site we may be able to help

After the update the webside isn’t shown on the smartphone (iPhone). I can’t see the blogposts, not what is written on the sides. I only see the menue. On the PC everything is perfect. Does anyone know a solution for this problem? www.auf-lose-blaetter.de
Hi there, I doubt this is a theme issue, you have quite a few plugins running, one which seems to interfere with the layout by adding a contact bubble. Try disabling all plugins apart from MeanThemes Tools and see if the issue goes away, if not please submit a ticket to our dedicated support portal: https://meanthemes.ticksy.com
Thanks a lot. This is the solution. I deactivated ALL plugins – the webside is perfectly running. Now, I only have to find the wrong plugin.

The problem was “Contact Form Slider” from “Pantherius” ... Now I’ll search an other contact slider.

I have an issue with the Navigation Menu though, as soon as you reduce the size of the browser window to a width that is too small for the existing menu then the menu disappears, making it impossible to get around the website. When I previewed in mobile the Navigation Menu was completely non existent.

I noticed someone else asked about customizing the front page, and you mention the plugin “Intuitive Custom Post order”. However, no where in the instructions does it show how to use it.

Is there any way to set up a simple grid of books – say, 3 rows of four books – without the slider and everything?
The instructions seem really limited, and don’t show how to edit demo pages, and there doesn’t seem to be shortcodes for books.
Basically, I’m really frustrated with the limited reconfigurability of this theme, unless I’m missing documentation?

The theme is easy to customise but as with everything there are different expectations from different buyers.
Hello. I am very interested in getting this theme. It looks almost perfect. I have a few questions though if you can find time. Please excuse if they sound daft, I’m a beginner:-
1a. Can the slideshow be modified so that it doesn’t have that ‘three-book-one-small-one-big-one-small’ look? More like a normal slideshow?
1b. I suppose I could replace it with a plug-in widget could I?
2a. Are the sizes of the elements editable? I.e. can I make the head element a bit bigger?
2b. If I have a 2-column blog layout, with posts in the main part and a smaller side-bar, could I alter the width of either?
3. Is it possible to add little design elements here and there? I would like to add lines and double lines to separate columns. Would that be possible?
Those are the main questions. Take a look at this mockup I did a little while back. I realise that I won’t be able to use your template to get exactly this, but do you think I might somehow be able to get close? Ish?

1a – The 3 images are just photoshopped together, this is a normal slideshow and you can drop images and text in there
1b – No not without modifications
2a – You can tweaks things like that if you know CSS and we can help with that too via support

You could adjust this with CSS as well
3 – You can definitely change the colours etc. to match what you have there and get the fonts pretty close, the 3 column layout isn’t in Preface though so you’d perhaps need to rethink that part of the design. We do offer a customisation service which we can quote you on but we need a full brief upfront before we provide a cost.

Hi there, do you mean can you sell videos or do you mean can you add a video in the description area? In regards to language support, we provide the .mo/.po files for translation but we haven’t tested with any multi-lingual plugins.

Right ok, yes you can add a video to the “Product Description” area, but not the area under the price as WooCommerce strips the oEmbed tag. Yes that’s right, we don’t know if Preface works with multi-lingual plugins as it has not been tested.

Hi there, it looks like your permalinks were to blame, I’ve just resaved them and the books pages have formatted correctly. This happens sometimes with WordPress if themes have been switched or updated. We’ll add it as an FAQ for anyone that comes across this issue again.
I purchased this theme and I really like it. However, I can’t get the header image to place properly. At the recommended size of 1600×410 it takes up almost the whole front page and NOT placed centered in the header above the menu. I don’t want just the text as my header – I have a graphic I’d like to use. How do I place it properly?
